I wrote a race report for the Trader's Lounge forum and am posting it here as well:
The last race - the final one of the first season - started in Teonosude and went around the Molden Heath region. I was barely in the lead right from the start and managed to extend it after the first waypoint (Heild VI) comfortably, mainly by a very smooth approach to the waypoint container without overshooting it at all. In fact, I didn't see the other guys anymore in the overview when approaching the next gates. Very Happy
Second waypoint was a belt in the Egbinger system, one of the rare 0.0 security systems in empire. Since I was first, I took the whole aggro of three Angel belt cruisers and was into structure while waiting for the can bookmarks to appear. I hastily warped to a station, but to one without a repair facility so I docked at another one to have my ship repaired and try again.
This time I was more lucky and "only" got into armor before picking up the next bookmark, a belt in the Mimiror system. Sufficient to say that I dropped to (nearly) last place - one other guy was apparently stuck at an asteroid...
The Mimiror belt was a 0.2 one and the rats there got me into structure again before I managed to snatch the bookmark and continue to Varigne Star, a high-sec system if I remember correctly. En-route, one other guy ahead of me lost connection and had to relogin so I won a place.
I don't recall the next jumps exactly, but anyway, the pack upfront got stuck for several minutes in a low-sec gate traffic jam so that I was able to see them and was stuck in the same queue. This was the first time this happened in a race BTW.
Since the waypoint at that time was another low-sec belt (Hedaleofaber VI - Belt 1) I decided to put the queue to good use, opened the map and searched for a repair facility in system and indeed, Joint Harvesting offers repair services. On returning to the gate, the queue was just about to be cleared so I jumped with the leading pack, in 3rd place at that time.
But despite fighting for the top position I got stuck in queues at nearly every gate and even had to log-out and back in one time so that even the guys who had to buy new ships and equipment managed to pass me.
But still, despite the frustrating last quarter, it was a hell of a race and good fun. I'm looking forward to the second season!
Congratulations to Kayleigh for the victory and Owi for the overall victory. See you at the starting station for next time.
