As bad as norton and mcaffee when you uninstal them they leave all sorts of files on your system recently tried installing nero 7 suite and had nothing but probs due to files left by norton 7 months after i uninstalled it

norton/avg are only really aimed at viruses tho not spyware, that what adaware and spybot are aimed at defeating

yup, if you have the virus already, or trojans, you are best off reformatting. It will actually take _less_ time usually. You can rebuild your pc in an hour or two.
I've spent several weeks in the (long ago) past unsuccessfully trying to fix stuff like this. My dad's computer became infested with spyware a month ago, we tried for 2 weeks running 5 different spyware removal programs, starting with adaware and spybot S&D before giving up and reinstalling windows. Had we done that in the first place the problem would have been solved a lot faster.
They would "remove" the spyware, we'd reboot, and the same damn programs kept coming back.
Burn all your important files to CD. Rebuild, install updated virus scanner, copy files off of cd to hard drive, scan before opening.
Then do not install kazaa, morpheus, or any other p2p software, "freeware" or any other software you didn't pay for, unless it's open source and you can examine the source, or a game beta provided by a reputable firm. Stay away from ****o sites, and never install a "dialer". Get a $50 linksys firewall from best buy, update the firmware, and put it between your pc and the internet.
If you do all of the above, and virus scan every file you bring to your computer, I guarantee you will never get spyware, a trojan, or a virus again, or your money back, unless the people you buy your software from include an infected file or trojan they didn't know about.
Yes, software companies sometimes have problems too -Biggie
did you do a virus scan while in safe mode? a lot of virus killers wont remove programs while they are still running hence you have to the checks in safe mode to switch them off
