Subscription losses due to Star Citizen are inevitable - temporary if that game will suck or permanent if SC will be good.
CCP already started "passive" preparations for possible crisis and F2P transition:
1) after Monoclegeddon they did not re-hire people to stockpile money despite amount of subscriptions already restored to pre-monoclegeddon level;
2) they hired Sean Decker who said "I see world as microtransaction" in interview few months ago.
For me personally (casual player) if Star Citizen will have avatars and avatar interactions + travel system without PvP arenas (a.k.a. "gates" and camps) I'll switch to it. Because right now there is only single activity in EVE which fulfill my casual interests - incursions. Everything else is either too slow (boring) or too complicated and I want new gameplay which CCP is unable to deliver for years (AI which eat drones in missions was the only "feature" which changed my game during last couple years).
Tl;DR I want new gameplay, I'll switch, permanently if SC won't suck and EVE won't have WiS expansion. |

Poll about content in Star Citizen resulted in 2/3 players voting for "exploration" as most attractive gameplay so SC devs focused on exploration + upcoming Elite is practically 100% pure unlimited exploration while in EVE exploration is the most frustrating and complicated mini-game one can imagine (I cannot tolerate scanning).
Same for avatar gameplay: besides sleeve tattoos and cyber arm as part of $150 package there is 0 new content for EVE while in SC I already got aquarium and buggy jumping track (and people didn't even ask for an aquarium).
3 months have passed since the beginning of this thread, some things changed: Star Citizen got alpha hangar module and 7 patches, CCP announced new expansion and now we have clear answer for the question "what exactly CCP is going to do to make EVE more competitive?": exactly nothing. CCP is going to give up all RPers / PvErs to Elite and SC without any struggle.
Prepare to see 75% discounts on PLEX - or price in billions. |

Ishtanchuk Fazmarai wrote:The only ones who are worried about that, are the people who should be playing something else. Correct. Shouldn't play a game which charge $200/year without providing new content for years: the only changes in my gameplay during last 2 years were OGB nerf + drone-eating AI. I'm sure with PvP-focused "expansions" situation won't change in 2014 (and maybe in 2015) so switch to other 5 upcoming sandbox games isn't really a question.
Just it's a bit frustrating to abandon "investments" I've made into EVE while there were no other alternatives + to see how CCP is wasting huge potential while they still have money for actual expansions instead of PvP content which failed to attract more subscribers during last 4 years. |

Random Majere wrote:I like the PVP/PVE "slider" SC will have ! So funny to see some people (obvious Eve players) on SC forums crying about it!
EVE players would know buttons-switches-sliders won't save from gankers even in hi-sec. I'm sure this thing is there just to pacify PvE players - who are the majority of gamers (and backers). |

Nuclear Xmas wrote:We already know the game is instanced, so EVE already has the game beat on scale.
EVE has instances (grids) as well. Also tidi on top of that. Surely people may join instances in EVE in droves (actual limit is around 250 pilots per system before tidi) - but it will be the same for Star Citizen couple years later when the code will be optimized and servers will be much more powerful than today. |

It's a good deal considering $150 EVE CE gives you only cosmetic golden pod. |

Commissar Kate wrote:I wish I would have known about Star Citizen when they had their lifetime insurance. It feels too late to get involved now. People trade their non-LTI packages for LTI packages via veteran backers - just like I did with 3 ships. After EVE it was amazing experience - to trust complete strangers with hundreds $$$ worth ships and receive them back with higher value. |

This whole EVE vs SC "competition" highlighted obvious problem: for CCP it's easier to find new subscribers for existing content and sell PLEXes to "hardcore PvPers" rather than develop new PvE/RP/interesting content for existing players.
Why bother with actual content expansions when you can simply intensify PvP to sell more PLEXes?
I hope StarCitizen devs won't get this "celebrity complex" when existing clients aren't interesting for devs and will continue to listen to players' ideas like it happened in recent hangar patch: players asked to add hairs to protagonist - CIG delivered ("Freelancer" suit has hairs now). |

Desivo Delta Visseroff wrote:The only one reaping the benefits of this kickstarter is Chris Roberts. Actually not only CR. People are reselling Scythes for $600-1500 (base price is $300). I am thinking to sell my Super Hornet after LTI period end for few hundreds US pesos - and I bet I'm not alone: there are already ads on E-Bay about common LTI ships available for 150% of normal price despite fact you can get them for the base price with minimal effort. |

SC announced another million-worth goal: alternative starter ship. For a million.
It seems CIG devs becomes as ineffective as CCP devs at actual development of their game. |

Whole "immersive XXIX century flight simulator" discussion in Star Citizen is archaic mess for pre-puberty children - just like elves, dwarfs and medieval roleplay events with stupid blunt weapons: not only auto-piloting drones are already better than human-piloted planes but cars also will be replaced with auto-piloting variants in the next decade (present Google auto-pilots are like 99% more safe than professional human drivers).
I'm waiting for a game where AI could learn my preferences, reaction time - and then take control over game so I could just watch it (and take control if I feel like it). Best gameplay ever \o/ |

With 5 goals like "+1 ship for $1 million" Star Citizen devs started to resemble CCP which market patches with 2 ships and 4 flying suitcases as "expansions". A bit disappointing. |

Today is the "last"* day of LTI ships for veterans. Grey market is going to explode tomorrow.
* Somehow I'm sure there will be more LTI ships sales. |

I expect grey market will explode in few hours with 2-3x prices on LTI ships. If I had veteran account I'd purchase a hundred of LTI freelancers-cutlasses-hornets right now. |

LTI period in SC is over, I guess now it's time to back Elite: release is just 6 months away + it seems they are going to implement "costly" avatar content with their $3.5 millions budget (in expansion probably). |

Apparently both games have something bad in common: they won't have space stations with windows (or at least I'm not aware of anything like that in SC). |

Now they are selling virtual fish for $1 and aquariums for $5. It turns out avatar gameplay is easy to monetize when devs actually work and don't ask permission from players to do so. |
