Edited by: Daesdemona on 14/08/2003 15:22:24 Do you think there are a lot of semi-N00b frigate pilots?
If so, do you think that hiring massive amounts of them could prove a manageable way to gain advantage in a battle?
i.e. Suppose that you let people that play on a more sporadic basis (or Alts) know that they can be frigate pilots on call in a certain sector of space as soon as they log on. This corporation could be funded by one of the big ones, and be used simply to provide "cannon fodder" for massive inter-corp battles.

The game really lacks the support for big battles, having +40 people fighting a battle is like watching a stroboscope.
If you are taking part in a battle like that you'd rather fly the biggest ship yoiu can get so it's more likely you won't die between snapshots. --- soonÖ |

Just glad nobody i work with plays this game and sees this. heh
Oh and Btw, mass frigates used for a combat/guerrila type hit and run i think is way underrated!, believe it depends on your pilots and right mix of ships, combat experience prefered but not necessary.

My newb alt started with frigate 4, but I believe that a bunch of Kestrals fitted with missiles for a hit and run operation would work nicely.

Might work with wave tactics. Say eight man friget team, call it four Kestrels, two Merlins, and two Herons. Send em in first they split on to two targets, go for the soft kills, then atempt to brake contact after the easy targets are dead. After that, send in the heavy hitters. Once the big ships are all well engaged, send the surviving frigets back in and /assist....
Might work, all depends on the frigets abilty to kill quickly and not get so tied down they can't get out of harms way long enough for the BS and crusers to draw attintion away from them.

Frigates and the damage they can cause are severely underrated for the risk of investment.
Few people seem to realize that a breacher is capable of causing 900 hp of shield damage, every 11 seconds or so against an unhardened ship. A breacher with 3 malkuth assaults can hold 3 Paradise cruise missiles, hindered only by the 10 second reload time. 3 Breachers = a possible 2700 hp of damage near simultaneously. Given the cost of breachers to produce, its an acceptable risk. You don't have to worry about your ship surviving the fight. All you have to worry about is firing at least 1 salvo of missiles.
I know many people with cruisers that are running with 250mm scout artillery on their ships. Given the Rifter's size, speed and cost (around 150k per) you exchange 1 gun for an extremely difficult target to hit a cheap replacement cost.
Very few people even contemplate the possibilities of mixed force swarm attacks with frigates. Guess it'll take a force like that to eliminate a bship or two before people start thinking about them seriously.
I mean its like you want corporations to oblige each other like its sex or something. Pffft I would rather **** my enemy.- Rohann

Hey if you put up 50 velators you could have decent fighting force. The idea of sheer numbers is huge in this game. Most people cant target more that 5-6 targets at once. If you cant target them you can't shoot them. Frankly if you had a handful of frigates you could take down just about any ship. Even if the pilots were equally capable and skilled. Plus frigate fighters have more guts because their ships cost less and don't mind commiting to the fight. Just observations and opinions.

Frigates=fun.
In the race to get a BS, most people in Eve have sorely missed the point about PvP. I personally think there is nothing better in Eve than a 20v20 frigate battle.
Recently I bought a tristan again, and I love it more than my cruisers. Think we should start a frigate league or something and go scrap in 0.0 sec space...What about it? Corp on corp action... -------------------------------------------- Dead

Lots of frigates fighting lots of frigates, particularly and you get lots of lag.
Where I think frigates would work are in guerilla battles, like hitting on enemy miners quickly and getting out. In such battles you lost merely the cost of your clone and the frigates.
The Kestrel, the Inquisitor and the Breacher sounds good for these, as well as the Merlin and Rifter. But a well coordinated squad with ECM frigates (Crucifier, Heron, Griffin, Maulus) using ECM, scramblers and webifiers, would add to the terror too.

Edited by: Durandal on 15/08/2003 10:51:13 I like this idea. Our corp is organising little frigate battles among ourselves just for laughs and it is great. I forgot how much fun the Punisher is when u fit it out properly.
I have just started up an alt and plan to et him a tristan asap, so a kind of frig corp for hire would be great.

Actually I like the kestrel idea posted here. However, I think the 8 kestrels should be fitted with heavy FoF missles since they don't have to wait for target lock. They simply drop out of warp drop their load (say 4 FoF cruise missles per Kestrel) and warp away. Assuming everything goes to plan, you get 8X4=32 cruise missles in the air and on their way to targets. Of course FoF missles being flakey and all could ruin this completely --------------------------- (c) Copyright Saladin, 2005. Heck, 5 EW firgs with the right ECM could jam, web , and scramble the battle ship. Then call in some kestrels to take the sucker down.

... FoF's are generally kind of a bad idea -.o
re: the CEO thing... this is not v.related, but thought it's good thread to bring it up. I might have an occasional contract work for few dedicated frigate pilots (contract meaning you're not expected nor required to leave your current company for it, will just have opportunity for extra fun on the side every now and then) If anyone's interested in more details, drop me an evemail and we'll see... :s
