Another fouled-up patch that won't install, despite four attempts to download it from two different servers. They've done it again. I suppose you're probably going to delete this post, CCP. Can anyone help me with this mess? I can't even start the game up now. Beta testers usually get paid, not pay for the privilege!

IŠm sorry if I sound a bit harsh but there is nothing wrong with the patch. It worked in the first try for me. Why donŠt you look and analyse your system to rule out any problems there BEFORE you go ranting on boards. Now, if you want ideas to fix your problem ask nicely... _______________________________________________ If I want your opinion, I'll ask you to fill out the necessary forms. |

Worked for me on four seperate computers, all with different configs. It's on your end, not CCP's.

No it's not. I have Win ME and I patched from retail to 1165 without problems.

Could you describe the problem and where it fails? If any errors then include them.

I had the same problem 2 patches ago - and it wasn't a corrupted download as even patches I had previously downloaded and used successfully refused to work. In the end I disabled my anti-virus software, temporarily underclocked my machine and booted up in safe mode. One of those things worked (most likely anti-virus protection was it) - it seems the installer is incredibly fragile if there is anything else intercepting the disk and/or memory whilst it's running.

No it's not.
I meant that ME is just a problem in general ;)

Which is exactly what I thought you meant
Windows ME is the buggiest OS ever.... even Microsoft devs have been quoted saying it is just IE with some stupid features.... not in those exact words though

Edited by: WolfA4 on 15/08/2003 23:54:19 ever consider that maybe just because it works for you it might not work for someone else while there computer still works properly? i have the same exact problem and i run windows 2000 and not only that its a random problem you can just keep running the patcher over and over and over again and eventually it will work, sometimes it will give you the error on a file it successfully patched because. take those fanboy blinders off.
http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=16394&page=1
the checksum is wrong the files are NOT corrupt, how do i know? because even after replacing the so called "corrupt files" with ones directly from the website it will randomly either patch it or not, and just because it patches a file once it might fail on it the second time around.
btw its an RTP 36 error old file not found.

Edited by: Evee on 19/08/2003 13:25:33 In response to the Dev, This is a long running issue with the patcher. This is the first major posting on the matter :
http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=7573
in which Dev Thew basically stated the work around is to download the full game or the stuff files that aren't patching - which isn't a realistic solution to enforce on people every 2 weeks.
Thew later goes on to say
Quote:
If you are never able to download a patch manually with a correct checksum we have a problem!
a couple of people respond with evidence that the checksums are indeed correct for the files downloaded and nothing further is heard from CCP.
This prompted this thread: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=15966
followed by this one: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=16233
Shortly afterwards this post appears prompting us to use the patch review forum http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=16958
to be honest I stopped trawling after page 10 of 63. but didn't find anything on the subject of checksum errors.
There have also been a string of other threads relating to this problem - but most are only a couple of posts long.
It gets me mad to see that another developer has posted asking questions as if this problem is new. it isn't - it's the same stinking issue that was around months ago
Could we please have an official statement on this issue and when you believe it is or is not going to be fixed!
It appears that this problem is limited to a minority and is probably present in a third part DLL.
My personal experience of the problem has lead me to believe that the patcher will run if it feels like it. by this I mean that if I click the installer enough times it will eventually get fed up and load
I've previously tried to defrag the HD, download from different sources, reinstall from CD, reboot after every step, Install in safe mode, download on a friends PC and burn to CD then install. Despite all this the only thing that worked is the try and try again approach which can at times run frist time other times (like the current patch) not install at all.

Found the below link to a support page. Doesn't list anything that hasn't already been stated in the forum by the users. but atleast it shows that someone is reading the posts.
Would still be nice to know if this is a problem that is on the cards to be fixed
http://eve-online.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/eve_online.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=483&&p_sid=7wjdQ9Rg&p_lva=413&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTgmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT0zJnBfY2F0X2x2bDE9NDEmcF9jYXRfbHZsMj00MiZwX3NvcnRfYnk9ZGZsdCZwX3BhZ2U9MQ%2A%2A&p_li=
noticed a typo on the file size of the 1128 - 1165 patches (should be 3.86MB - one reads 3.68)
