T3 researchs should require T2 items, which would be used and not recoverable (the items would be unasembled by the research agent to try to find ways to improve it) and would take time, lets say 2 week for each try with a 0.5% chance of being sucessful, with maybe a new "research efficiency" skill that would improve your chance of success by 0.1% for a max of 1% / try at level 5 and another skill to reduce the time needed between each try, chances could also improve with each new try by something like 0.1% so after 10 tries, your chances would be between 1.6% and 2% depending on your "research efficiency" skill level
reseach should also cost money for each try, research agent salary and expenses, lab usage, etc
you should also have to choose what attribute of the T2 item to improve, so, for a weapon, you could choose to try to improve optimal range, falloff range, tracking, damage mod, CPU usage, PG usage, etc.
for a ship, you could choose to try to improve speed, agility, hull hp, armor hp, shield hp, cap, resists, additional low, mid or high slot, etc.
once your research is successful, you could either produce the new item that would then only have a single attribute improved, or you could put it back in research to try to improve one of the other attribute
another way to do T3 research could be by using assembly parts (like the parts needed for capital ship construction, but smaller ) so, for a ship, you would need armor plates, construction parts, computer system, turret hardpoint, etc
each of these part could then be researched separately, so, if you research propulsion engine and are succesful, you would get an improved propulsion engine BPO, that would allow to build propulsion engine that improve a ship speed, if you are succesful in your research in shield emitter, you would get an improved shield emmiter BPO that would allow to build shield emmiters that gives more hp to the ship shields, etc
once you assemble the ship, you would be able to mix regular and improved parts, each regular parts would keep the stats of the T2 ship while each improved parts would improve the ship according to their use
you can separate ships parts by size, so, there would be frig parts, destroyer parts, cruiser parts, industrial parts, etc.
i don't know if that would be too hard to implement, but it sure would make a hell of a lot of diversity and possibilities in the research field ┌-------------------------------------------------┐ ª You currently have 34,287,435 Brain Cells ª └-------------------------------------------------┘ |
