its obvious from most of the postings here that players are hankering for allowing player modification to become a major element in research & manufacturing, and I think that would bring a rich and diverse aspect to gameplay, making being a builder a much more interesting occupation within eve & consequently the eve galaxy itself. People have obviously gone to great lengths to specify how they would like to be able to modify/create/obtain and some systems are very compelling. I think the main problems the dev team will face will be how to integrate this with what is already there, because obviously it will have to mesh otherwise many players will be made very uphappy with all their shiny t2 equipment and bpos becoming a lot less desirable and therefore expensive (which i think is a good thing in the long run). But more importantly the market interface will have to be redesigned very carefully around the new system. Take for instance a player who creates a modded ship with better cpu better speed and 1 more mid slot whereas another player mods a ship of the same type but with different mods. How will all the information be shown on the marketplace? If all the subcategories are listed (heavy load on eve) then thats ok as buyers can arrange the columns to suit what they are looking for, if the buyers have to 'show info' on each one its going to be very tedious and time consuming, which mean most people will resort to escrow or trade channels etc. I think that if CCP are going to embrace the player being able to modify items then its an opportunity to redesign the market system to be more relevant as well (shoveling on the work here). Collapse escrow for items, use another method for private intertrading of items (a public hanger area etc), allow customisable market entries perhaps and most importantly, open the market for inter-regional trade, with high skills if necessary and make another set of skills necessary for 0.0 markets. This will allow the big players/corp/alliances to really move the markets and drive the economy of eve without the out of game interaction that alot of this seems to require at the moment. I dont envy your position and i am fairly sure that the next gen-research will be what you can realistically achieve in the time you have, i just hope i have given you pause for thought.
