Edited by: Jaderpop on 13/12/2005 19:40:26 I Have personally, in my year and a half of playing eve talked to quite a few women in the game itself and half of them on TS so i know they exist. I even have a voice in my head that is a women and she plays eve sometimes for me.

Despite the whole "males on female toons" and "females on male toons", eve doesn't seem to have the same lure as many other MMO's. Maybe it's because the romantic aspect of it is more centered around piracy and exploration, two elements in entertainment usually associated with us guys rather than the gels.
At the same time, you see alot more women playing WoW, where the social element is untouched by ambition most of the time. In EVE, you make friends, but you still keep them at arms length.
This all is to say nothing about the girls that already play EVE, ofc. But the draw the game has on women seems much, much less. And I think it's something to do with the base design of the game, and the almost overboard competition and machiavellian elements. ---

Speak for yourself.
That said, exactly that kind of thinking ("us guys like this, them gals like something different") is what is the problem here.

There are indeed differences in how males and female think and that has an impact on games they like. Men, for example, are on average more adapt at spatial orientation while women are better empaths.

You guys are all wrong, you can easily tell if they are female becuse of thier avatar. Since the inception of the IAOC (International Avatar Overcite Comitte) using an online avatar requires requires you to prove your out of game gender.
Or at least that's what I was told and why I sent pictures of my nethers to [email protected]
You guys had to do that too, right?

I would suggest that everyone go read The Escapest issue #17 "Girl Power" http://www.escapistmagazine.com/issue/17
If nothing else, read the article: "OMG Girlz Don't Exist on teh intarweb!!!!1" for a slighly humorous look at what girls face.
Oh and Females FTW :)

Dear CCP, Considering the amount of male subscribers....might it be an idea to put "decent" adverts on the billboards in empire????
Wouldn't mind the freighter trips without bm's then..

Women tend to like different types of games than this.
Saying Eve should change to attract them is like saying it should change to attract more children. I didn't sign up to play The Smurfs Online.
What's wrong with having a "guy" style game. Girl gamers have WoW, Sims Online, a bunch of games.
I mean you don't see me walking into The Sims Online and asking them to recode the game to include guns, Eve is a violent, brutal, raw game where alot of times life just aint fair, watering it down to attract more girl gamers would diminish its flavor to the people who like it raw.
Of course there are SOME women in Eve that like it just how it is, hey my kind of gals.
It's like going into a sushi bar and asking for a burger.
McDonalds is that way --->
Pink ships? Sure why not, custom paintjobs for everybody, so people can paint their ships with pink flowers, but not changing the actual MECHANICS of the game to accomodate weak people of either gender.
I mean the jetcan "theft" code is already turning the game into Ultima Online's Trammel server. Now the carebears have no reason to ever leave highsec, what happens when all the highsec systems are full to overflowing? They gonna turn the whole game into highsec, so people can sit there and mine in 1.0 with large barge strip miners.
You see the pattern here, they are changing the game to cater to the lowest common denomiator, we'll have more and more low quality people that have no patience, they'll start whining about everything WAAH why do I have to wait, WAAAH how come people can wardec me, waaah waaah waaah.
Making Eve appeal to more girl gamers would just water it down even more until the game turns into consentual pvp watered down everquest in space.
Then the devs will sell the game to Electronic Arts and move to Bora Bora, and we'll have another E&B on our hands.

We have several women in our corp. One is an ex-pirate and we have to feed her valium everytime she sees a hauler in anything lower than 0.5
On contracts they are all heartless killers and you wouldn't want to find yourself on the wrong end of their guns.

Overall generally I have to say females in eve have been kind of a novelty in eve sadly.
I think overall I've only ever come across about 6 maybe in 2 odd years, and a few couples that play together.
I guess it's a case of boys toys.

No, I haven't (and it doesn't seem likely that I will any time soon considering my build).
Fail to see what that has to do with my original post about well known facts on the (quite interesting for me at least) field of human neurology, though. Care to explain?

I have met many women during my time in EVE.
I cant quite put my finger on it, but they seem drawn to my dashing good looks and my amazing skills with Gallente ships.

As an aside...
Games do not need to be made to appeal to women, they just need to be marketed properly to women. Women like the same things men do in computer games, they're just less likely to try them because the marketing is so male-centric.
Case in point.
My old roomate (female) thought Unreal Tournament was pretty stupid util I pointed out it was a good stress reliever if she imagined her cow-orkers' faces on the other players...
Then I showed her the effects of the flak cannon at close range.
She still plays and she's deadly, but she finds Eve too meticulous and fiddly for her taste.
