Just wondering cos It seems to be a mostly male dominated game to me. If so how can ccp reverse this trend and try to appeal to the female gamer? There is a lot out there un tapped.

Females plays games? That is not possible?
Edit: I am just kidding. If my captain sees this she might demote me to any rank below ensign if it was possible
But with regards to OP: Maybe you havent seen them around because they dont say they are females. Otherwise you will have people saying "A/S/L? pix pls?"

Edited by: Arti K on 13/12/2005 16:13:48 Why do you have to reverse a trend? Generally that's a horrible idea for profits.
I like my EVE the way it is, I don't need it carebeared up with instanced PVP and fully insured ship & mod loss for pennies.

What I meant was to attract more females to the game I used a poor choice of words.

If there were females in this game they would probably hide behind a male persona. For all you know I could be a female. Just think about the harrasment they would receive.

Less finger twitching death and destruction and domination of people over each other by means of force. I mean, those are the reasons I play, so I'd assume if you want my counterpart to play that it'd bore me the death.

Sigh. There are no "female games". There are just "good games" and "crap games". Women usually go for the same things in games as men do.
There are quite a few women in Eve -- not all want to advertise themselves, of course. Lots of the female characters are played by guys, but guess what, some of the male characters may be played by girls. You never know, and you don't need to.
In short: all CCP needs to do is keep up the good work.

Quite. But what has this got to do with the topic?
My wife plays, and she's the one who goes into 0.0 in an inty to raise hell -- she's probably on her zillionth clone by now. Me, I just run missions most of the time, or do covops work
Just forget your female stereotypes, please. They ain't valid.

I don't have to imagine. I have seen at first hand the harrasment that a single, young female receives.
Those of you that read Eon will know that players can send in pictures of themselfs posing as their character.
I have seen this female character's picture and it bears a stunning similarity to her avatar, but she is frightened to send it in for publication because of the morons it would attract.
Your loss.

Well if your wife raises hell in her inty anywhere near my Ishtar does that technically make me a wife beater?

Well, only if you shoot her down. But I think she's smart enough not to solo engage an Ishtar with an inty. She'd just call in an alliance gank squad. But I digress...

Edited by: Elsebeth Rhiannon on 13/12/2005 16:40:58 Sixth only, handsome. :) And my raising hell consists mainly of screwing up and dying a lot. But to the matter at hand:
The minute this game starts to "cater specifically to female players", I'm probably outta here. I play EVE because I like EVE as a person, not because it appeals to me as a woman.
To attract more women into gaming, you do not need games that are "more appealing for women". You need an atmosphere in the society where it is quite as ok for a girl to play tactics and violence as it is for a boy. If you try to increase carebearishness and all that fuzzy-cuddly feminine feeling, you in fact work to the opposite: implying all games are not suitable for women, implying that "normal girls" play only nice games, and play them nicely.
As to harassment, zero so far. I do not specifically advertise the fact that I am female also in RL, because it is usually not relevant, but quite a lot of people know (and not all of them know I am married, either :)). Of course, I tend to play with a more mature crowd than the average, and am probably too old for the teenage hordes. ;)
I am not too worried about the possibility, either. I am quite capable of blocking morons, sending screenshots/chatlogs to CCP, and ignoring annoying email.
EDIT: typos etc
Peace in a pod |

I hate threads like this, who cares if your corpmate is a male or a female, as long as they're a good person. Now, stop acting like deer-in-the-headlight nerds and leave the ladies alone.

Agreed. Women aren't special. They're more than half the population. Everyone get over themselves.

Actually, women are 52% of the population iirc. I have met quite a few women, mainly on TSes. You would be suprised about how many women play eve.

I am amazed this question keeps coming up. There are more women, self included, in this game than you guys realize. True, some of us do go behind male avatars to play, some don't. And some won't say either way, but guys, we are out there and don't you forget it. We even have our very own Channel.

Recently Oveur was in the SWA Corp Chat and someone asked a similar question. Oveur said(hopes he doesn't mind me telling this.) that only 4% of the subcribers were women but that 50% of the characters were female, so go figure. Interestelar drag queens, perhaps ?
