I'm on day 3 of Eve and still getting used to things a bit. I've got enough isk to buy my 1st ship. I was leaning towards buying a Probe to do some mining since it seems to have a bigger hold. Couple of questions:
* Does 2 mining lasers yield twice as much? (or would that be redundant) * Should I mine any asteroid I come across? Or should I try and target specific types? * Is the most efficient way to earn isk to reprocess it & sell it? Or is there a player-driven market that pays more?
TIA.

Each mining laser pulls in a certain amount of ore, so yes, two mining lasers gives twice the ore.
Specific types. Go for the good ones. Veldspar and Scordite are right out. Find yourself some Omber or Kernite, and you'll be doing good as a new player.
Er... Lots of the buy orders for minerals ARE player buy orders. Check the price on the ore itself, then what you can refine it to as minerals. It's not always better to do either one (though it's tons easier to haul the minerals instead of the ore).

Yes, the probe is probably the next logical ship...get 2 miners...stick to 0.9 or 1.0 space as there are no RATS (npc fighters). Also try and get your mining to lvl 4 as fast as possiabl so you can use the Miner II's.
At the early stages, mine SCORDITE as it sells better than the other ores.
You will get more selling just the ore at first, until you can get your reprocessing skills up.
And get your Learning skills to lvl 5 ASAP and the advanced learning skills to lvl 4..these will make learning all the rest of your skills go faster.
RECAP:
Mining to lvl 4 - so you can get miner II's and mine more ore and make more money faster.
Mine the hell out of scordite.
Sell the ore - don't reprocess as you will loose too much.
Get the learning skills up ASAP.

Scordite and Pyrox are fine. Kernite means 0.7 or lower so not noob friendly. You are better off selling the ore until you have your refining skill up to l3 iirc. -- (Battle hardened miner)

Whether it's better to sell the ore or the minerals depends on the market. In the regions I've mined Kernite in, the Kernite ore has buy orders maxing out at about half of what I can sell the minerals for if I refine it (Refining 3).
