Since I primarily run research agents for Gallente Federation, my standing with the Caldari State have fallen pretty low. So I've been slowly working on some level one and two combat missions to help boost my ratings. So while doing a mission, I got a chat request, and attempting to be helpful with my limited knowledge, I replied and was asked if I was doing missions and if so, could this person join since they needed the faction too.
Since this is EVE and paranoia is a staple to this game, I was hesitant and attempted to look for information on if this was dangerous move or not. About a minute later, the person left the chat channel in disgust at my lack of speed in responding.
My first thought would be this person could run into my mission, steal what was required, and I would fail the mission.
So any comments or thoughts; or was I being too paranoid here? |

no such thing as 'too paranoid' in EVE.
I have occasionally joined others in running *thier* missions. I've never invited anyone into *my* missoins. So far, I've been satisfied with that distinction. Hell, I've even been actually helpful. At the cost of stripping some of the loot cans, of course.
That said, allowing someone to invite themselves into your mission is *begging* to be safari'd. |

They can do that without sharing a fleet, and fleeting doesn't help you with faction standing anyway.
Faction standing is only rewarded to the owner of the mission, and the only way to get one of those is to have make your mission counter go up GÇö sharing someone else's missions does not affect how many missions you are considered to have run. At most, it helps speeding up the process so you can bang the missions out faster and get a storyline mission sooner, but that's about it. It's so disappointing to see potential friendships ruined by paranoia. I have to say, I do feel sorry for the person you rejected as I am currently trying to increase my in-game social network (particularly with high sec PvE players). It's a difficult group to break into. Oh god. |

From another MMO I was used to just blindly accept invites; somebody might need help after all.
Well, I learned from that particular mistake and share your paranoia since this event.

Got warped off & killed. That was the end of the story of my first retriever. But, have to admit I made quite a number of noobish mistakes.
I was in Amamake. And the inviter had a -10 sec standing:) |

Hi Tippia,
Do you happen to have anything to substantiate this claim? I want to say I noticed my standings improve, albeit incrementally, while fleeted with corpmates assisting in their missions. I was not the mission owner.
Also, I may be reading this wrong too. Are you talking about the 'faction' or 'NPC corporation' standing specifically or both? And, are you referencing the storyline agent mission awarded to a pilot after 16 of the same level / type missions that boosts 'faction' standing?
I appreciate the clarification! |

Corp missions give you corp standing, which is shared (along with agent rewards and bounties, if you're on-grid at the same time). Faction standing from storyline missions is not shared GÇö you have to get your own from your own missions, which are only triggered by your own mission counter.

True enough. Accepted another invite (after considerable internal discussions), so it didn't completely dissocialize me, but taught me some about eve customs. But, need to mention, the pirate was nice too:)
Due to other reasons I currently don't wanna join a corp., and that's one thing I'm missing a bit: spontaneous grouping
And I guess it's system-inherent and not my missing socialize V skill (one can hope).

I for one am quite disappointed that the content of the thread did not match my expectations given the title.
Aside from that, if you'd like to run some Caldari level 4's with my corp you are welcome to do so. I would actually prefer you don't join my corp anyway as I value my Caldari Navy standings. We generally in and around Jita, though we fly all over. Most of my spontaneous groupings though involve friends and some nasty carebears stealing Ice from the Saviour's systems.

chat channel 'help my mission' used to be quite populated, don't know how active it is now.
healthy paranoia in eve is a good trait to have however, not everyone is out to get you, not all the time anyway some are, but not everyone
too much paranoia can actually ruin the eve experience if your never prepared to place a little trust in someone you may as well be playing X3, as an mmo the other people you can encounter in eve can give much more interest and enjoyment in the game |

You can choose to share mission rewards and that will include the rep bonus for the npc CORP that you are both running missions for. However every 16 missions you will get a FACTION mission that gives a gain to faction rep. i don't know if this rep is sharable. I assume this is because whilst people are happy to share the former they are less happy to share the latter and do it later whilst not in fleet.
On a related note attacking fleet members is still a concord offense (unlike attacking corp members) so unless you are in a hauler/mining ship/ something bling there is no especial reason to be paranoid. Whilst a lot of people in EvE are indeed out to get you it is also true that there are a lot of helpful friendly people in the game. Forming in-game friendships and playing with those people is kinda the point of the game.
People often say don't fly what you can't afford to lose and this is true. You should not take this to mean don't fly anything. Likewise to get anything out of the game you will need to trust some people. Put limits on that trust (this can vary over time) but to trust no one is a sad way to play. Sometimes people will betray that trust and you will lose some pixels. Smile, learn any lessons to be learned and move on. A GF in local wouldn't go amiss either. |

That's the key right there, being able to survive long enough to be saved. Otherwise, you'll just be avenged.

You do not need to be on-grid to receive the standings/agent rewards, in fact IIRC (it's been a month or so since I've run a mission) you don't even need to be in the same system. Bounties I'm not 100% on, I feel like I've received those while being off-grid but I'm probably mistaken on that part. |

As Kitty Bear says a few posts earlier there is the "helpmymission" channel available if you want help with missions.
I made the channel in 2007 primarily for helping out people who were struggling to complete a mission but it's now developed into a great community of people who like doing pve stuff in general.
There's regularly people making mission fleets just for the company and corp standing boosts etc.
It's thought of as a "safer" place to get help/company as anyone caught ganking/scamming while in the channel would get barred from HMM.
We also have an improved website at www.helpmymission.com if you want to find out any more info. |
