Edited by: ChironV on 15/08/2003 14:39:06 Don't get any CTD's. Then again I have eve on a dedicated machine.
Win 2000 SP4
Best procedure for drivers and such is to install new video driver. Then install sound card driver. Then re-install SP4. Then re-install directx. (half an hour down the drain.)
I use the free zonealarm on the eve box and have all processes not necessary for the game shut down. Play in windowed mode so I can browse forums and such.

Edited by: Turtle on 15/08/2003 14:50:39 Also not trying to sound flip but I hear alot of people say they have the latest stuff and it still doesn't work. Something to consider.
Which OS are you running. Sorry if you are running 98/ME upgrade. Memory handling just sucks with those OS's IMO. Even 2000/XP require tweaks to run well but at least you are running the same OS that the devs are.
Memory, how much do you have. 1Gb is minimum IMO. Most of the new games out there will use all you can give it. This was very apparent in AC2. Once you hard drive starts to thrash either you lock the system up or CTD.
Drivers are tricky. I'm using only the latest released drivers, in my case all from Nvidia. Sometimes beta drivers are good and sometimes not.
Are you overclocking anything. If so put it back to stock and see if you are more stable. Even though I like the performance boost I get it does tend to cause more problems.
It is CCPs responsibility to make the game work on as many different systems as it can and I'm sure they are addressing this as fast as possible.
Last but most important are you reporting these CTD's as bug reports when they happen and providing all the information you can. This is the only way it will get addressed. The boards are a great way to share information but if you have tried everything you know to solve the problem only CCP can fix it.
just my 2cents worth.

Edited by: annoing on 15/08/2003 15:22:56 Errrrrrrrrrrrm i dont know much about computers
To nearly everyone who has encountered a CTD lately:
More likely than not it is an AUDIO glitch that has caused the CTD. CCP is aware of this and they are trying hard to find a solution. Before the first 2 hour 'server maintence' a couple of weeks ago i had never suffered a CTD in the retail version. After 2 CTD in a day i went and found the latest upgrade for my audio card (an nvidia) and i havent suffered a CTD since (fingers crossed). For nearly everyone else: It could be one of a few things ; Latest Catalyst Drivers dont work well with Eve on certain machines with certain set-ups. Try going back a few drivers to see if that helps. Same applies to certain set-ups with nvidia too. Your ISP loop. Sometimes the Eve servers send too much info at too high a rate for some ISP's to handle. This causes an overload which causes a reboot. In MOH:AA we used to be able to restrict bandwidth requirements when linking to a server, so we didnt suck up too much of the servers bandwidth - reason being some people overloaded and others lagged. Cant remember how we did it now, but the same thing might work for Eve (if anyone remembers how please post it here) As i write im sure CCP are trying to resolve what they can. But as they are only human, they cant stay awake for 24hrs a day everyday to satisfy bugs, lets try to give them some breathing space. Panicking people make more mistakes - dont make the devs panic to get a patch out too early. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The Inquisition Long live the Inquisition Long live the Emperor Long live Amarr!

Sorry..dont know what your problem is but none of these actions have even caused me to CTD. In fact, I have been playing this game for about 4 weeks now and I have only CTD a few times. I used to play Neverwinter Nights by BioWare...well I CTD'd in that game just about everyother day. You need to stop screaming at CCP for every single bug you encounter..sometimes its just something on your PC that is causing mem leaks, or other background apps that are trying to access the same memory allocations. I have really enjoyed this game. Yes there are bugs, but what game that has been released this year didnt launch with alot of bugs and how many are bug free now??? I challenge you to answer that one. The reason CCP looks so bad is that most of the posters on this forum are just the ones who scream that CCP is causing them to crash. There are over 7000 people playing this game. I see about 100 different names here complaining about bugs over the past few weeks.. Looks to me you are a minority and need to look at your local system/network/pc and see if just maybe the problem lies with you.
