Did CCP even stop to consider the ramifications of dramatically increasing the cost of an NPC made only product, when a small portion of the player base was even aware of their intent?
Anyone who knew about this in advance was able to stockpile cheap Control Towers, with no risk of market devaluation at all. Worse case senario, it would take them time to free up their assets. Now, with the increse in POC price, they've effectively trippled their investment at no risk, and for no effort. All they had to do was be lucky.
Now those of us who actually work for our isk have to compete with people who just got it for free. Might as well be EBaying it.

Information is power. I take it you did't care enough to log into sisi even once to test did you or you would have seen the change.
Next time, maybe there is some insentive to stay informed rather than just be a sheep following the masses.
Its not like eveyrone didn't have the same chance to read that information or see it for themselves. Knowledge for the win.

Do we play a game or work for the secret service?
Did you even consider some people don't have ~8 hours a day to spend on gaming before you posted that? There are people who don't have as much EVE-time as you. Can't blame them for not trying a differnt version of the game on another server while it's hard enough to keep up with just one character if you can't play daily or schedule your entire life around logging in whenever a skill is done.

Edited by: Harry Voyager on 16/12/2005 07:05:39 No, everyone did not have the same chance to log in and see that for themselves. Everything I hear about this says it was a near last minute change, only coming up the last day or two before RMR.
I know certainly didn't see anything about it on the test server, and I was on that thing frequently, going over the new ships and items that were coming up.
You're just trying to defend your ill-gotten gains.

It was public knowledge, man. Oveur posted it a few times over the past month on the forum and it was on Sisi before the server went down. And it may look like a get rich quick button but demand is very limited. How many POS do you think are bought per month? It's not a lot, I'll tell you that. The time it'll take to sell these things is in the range of months. If I really wanted to make billions of ISK, I'd have spent my 800 million ISK on minerals isntead and shipped them down to the ISS marginis outpost, where I'd build ships at 20% profit or sell for some straight profit. A few months of that would have me in much much more than the the 2 billion mark that I'm looking at now. I'd be looking at 4billion or more for operating that for four months.
Unless someone comes along and buys these control towers, they're not worth anything. Someone will buy them eventually, I'm sure, but it'll take a bloody long time. You want to talk about get rich quick? Fine. Tell me what's so quick about all this? It's more like get rich extremely slowly.
The only advantage I have is that I don't have to physically do anything. I just have to wait for the things to sell. Thanks to my information gathering skills, foresight and willingness to get on sisi and help the bug hunters, yeah I have made a good business move and increased the value of my holdings, apparantly overnight. But you know as well as I do that this is a long term scheme. There is no getting rich quick here. And if you really want tog et rich quick, there are ways to do it. The marginis outpost is in need of more than a few ships and modules. People would pay a lot for things down there.

Actually i seem to remeber reading about this a couple of weeks ago.
I didnt bother however, because not many control towers are sold. Its going to take a looooong time for all those control towers ppl bought to resell at the higher price.
Just look at the volume spike b4 rmr was rolled out and youll see that many many ppl have bought control towers hoping to make a quick profit.

Knowing about it or not, it makes the gap between the rich and the poor larger.
What are small industrial corps suspoed to do if they want to get into t2 comp manufacturing?

Part of what irks me, is I can't think of a valid reason for them to make this change.
POS costs are already in their cost of ownership, and tripling their purchase price really isn't going to change that. The Small POS wars are long gone, what with the new 5 day waiting period before claiming soverienty, and the tiered claim capacity, so you can't use Small Towers by dumping 20 or so into a system just before downtime for instant claiming.
At best it's a barrier to entry, for the Capital Shipyard and Tech II fields, but that isn't exactly a good thing.
I just don't see how this benefits the game, and I can easily see a number of ways how this hurts it.

This could be a bad thing depending on what they hope to accomplish by raising the price that much. If it's to reduce the whole throw up a billion towers to claim ownership of a system, they should have changed it after seeing how the new soverenty system works.

Well, to be honest, I was told this was to act as a moneysink to all the massive amounts or ISK in some people's hands. Unfortunately, those SAME people with the massive amounts of ISK in their hands just bought up loads ot towers before the patch, and will resell them at a massive profit now. Those of us without the liquid assets to do this are left out again.
I think this has failed to act as a sink to all the too rich in this game, it just made them richer (at least in assets, till they sell em at a hefty profit) while making it harder for everyone else.

it could still work, all they have to do is drop the market price of the towers right down and people that bought loads of them will loose sooooo much money, all the poor people will die from laughter though...

or maybe a dev will just delete all stocks of 5+ POS's in peoples hangars .. and when people come complaining we can just say "hah we all knew.. knowledge is power"
sigh.. pathetic excuses lol

CCP do actually have the logs of who bought what from the market. So all they have to do is examine who strangely bought 20 or so small towers in the last few days, and remove them from hanger. These players will be lucky they're not banned, since they've taken advantage of an exploit.

Your life is obviously far too peaceful.
We bought lots of large towers in the last couple of weeks, not for profit but simply because we had to!
Perhaps we should thank G/IRON for that - or then again, perhaps not...
