Grim Starwind

Okay, after about 3 hours of downloading and messing around and being ****ed off. I finally get the game to load. BUT after selecting my character it says "Entering game as Grim Starwind" then fully loads the blue bar and stays there. Ant I've tried logging in twice now and I still have it running in the background. IT really is taken forever. what's the world coming to?!

So you just waited? When it said "Entering the game as ..." - just wait?

I'd hate to add to complaining about downtime/inability to login, but what he describes is happening to me.
First I was exiting a space station and it stopped loading the system. It sat there for 3 minutes. I closed the program and waited 4 minutes before logging back in. I got in just fine, but it halted at the character entering game screen. It has been doing this for over twenty minutes.

I get the same problem. except I don't get to wait. after 1 minute, I get a "lost connection to server" message.
I also noticed when running the launcher, my internet connection is running real slow, or shuts down

I have the same problem now, actually its connected(for me anyhow) to another problem. While jumping I'll get stuck, happened about 12 times in 8 hrs play,so I just relog and its fixed. Except this time when i try to relog I'm getting the same problem listed in this post.

Well I exited, rebooted, and now get "The Black Screen of Death".1 thing I did notice just before the black screen,on the loading char as....bar it flashed "failed " just before blackout.

Likewise. I left it running for twenty minutes and it never did let me in, so I'm trying again now... This happened to me earlier, but it let me in after a minute or so that time.
However, I noticed one other thing - when I alt-tab out of EVE to mess around while I'm waiting to enter the game, I see a brief flash of non-black-screen, as though the game has actually loaded but it's not displaying correctly on my screen. I tried messing around with my graphics settings, but it doesn't seem to be helping.
Are there any developers around who might address this? I'm sure that many people are wondering whether there's anything they can do to fix this problem...

Exactly the same thing here. It was suggested to delete the cache directory but that didn't help any.

Tried a few more times, no joy, still getting "FAILED" right after "ENTERING GAME AS WOLFPHASE".
Escape still pulls up the menu, but it wouldn't let me submit a new "stuck" petition, and there were no options to view/modify the existing one (just said denied or some such thing).
I suggest the system be changed so instead of having it simply say (paraphrased) "no, you submitted one already, go away", that it instead pop up a window with the status of the existing petition and offer options to add additional notes, or cancel/close it. This way as long as the user can access the Escape menu, they can access the petition system. Also, it would be a good idea to have it accessible from the web site too.
I'd offer to do the code modifications myself, but I live in the US :)

BTW if ya'll devs have difficulty duplicating the issue, I wouldn't mind helping out with additional logs or testing. Just drop me an e-mail...

Lord have mercy, this is the most disorganised mess I have ever seen, and I've been around since pre-castor.
first off, there should be no "auto patch" drawing from the cluster, it should automatically transfer the player nicely to an external FTP PRECISELY FOR THIS REASON!
people are stuck at log in because all the people patching.
here's a crazy thought, FARM THE PATCH OUT!
don't even distribute it yourselves, let file providing webistes like gamershell and fileplanet carry it, let their servers take the brunt and let the people who are patched play without a lag ridden, freeze prone nightmare of colossal proportions.
"loging in as [insert name]" ................... several minute wait ................... "FAILED"
don't hand me that nonsense, don't hamper your customers experience so that others can patch up, try to connect and be stuck precisely where the first person is.
GET THE PATCH OFF THE CLUSTER
DONE AND DONE

Same issue here, though last night shortly after RMR went live I was able to log in. Couldn't run missins from an agent I'd been using until after clearing my cache, but I was able to get in. Today, I'm just stuck at the "Entering the game as.." progress bar.

I agree that the patch download needs to be using resources separate from the live TQ infrastructure. CCP can do this themselves. I personally find the spyware/adware/cookie hell of services such as Fileplanet offensive, and hope CCP never goes that route.

well that's why I use gamer's hell, not the prettiest site, but great world wide access, VERY fast servers (100Mbps are the slow servers), NO LINES EVER, and it's totally free!

I had a similar problem as the original poster - I could select a character and got "Entering game as <my char name>" and then the "Entering Station...". But the dialog for entering station would never go away. ESC still worked just fine. I tried this a half-dozen times since the RMR patch come up. I finally fixed it by quitting the game and then renaming the cache folder in my Eve installation folder to something like "cache.old" (deleting would be fine, I'm sure). Now I can actually get into a station.
