I set the font width to "wide" as soon as I could and I'm getting used to it by now. Still liked the old font better, tho.
By the way, with "wide" setting the 2 is too far right and usually gobbles up a following decimal sign, that's what actually annoys me most at the moment

I wonder if this has ever worked, asking mods not to close a thread ^^;. Nothing wrong with the thread, by the way.
I use a 17 inch pureflat CRT at 75 Hz in 1600*1200 with Eve in 1024*768 windowed mode. So I can read the forums at the same time as playing. I'm getting used to the font. Personally, I dislike it and hope it gets changed but it's bareable at the largest and widest setting.
Except that Kieron said that the next person to mention the word 'font' will get banished from the Garden of EVE Oh, and 17" TFT, 1280X1024, can read, but don't like.

21" crt running 1024x768 @100Hz (forced in dxdiag) desktop and game. i noticed the game says 75Hz or whatever, but the monitor stays at 100Hz and is very stable and clear.
when i started eve a couple of months ago, i found the fonts just plain unreadable and had fairly bad eyestrain trying to read it.
this new font is ten times more readable. the size of the font has not changed, but the deifinition of the characters has increased a fair bit. i dont strain as much reading this font.
the font has problems with decimal places and 2s etc, but i dont mind, please dont bring the old one back!

my turn... Screen size : 17" TFT Screen resolution : 1280*1024 New font : i like it. with the tiny size and default settings, it's unreadable. But in medium and wide mode activated, it's nice.

1280X960 on a 19 inch old arse dell monitor. :\ With my glasses I can read most things ok, but the fonts too close in some places and the spacing choices don't help, really. The first aa is a bit too small, and the next up is a tad too large, heh.
I like the font though, it just needs to be a tad bigger or something. just a tad.

I played a bit in Excel with all these figures...
It appears that:
-The most played resolution is 1280*1024 -Whatever the resolution/screen size used, half of the people having said wether or not they liked the new font don't like it (the other half is shared between "yes" and "no comment"). -People that like the font have a screen ratio (screen size/(width*hight)) between 1 and 1.5 (before and after this ratio, I have negative or uncommented answers)

I assume you are using a CRT? If so you should use a ratio that is "square" as where a circle in your screen is round. TFT's have a different physical ratio of widht and height than CRT's. So on a crt use 1024x768, 1280x960, 1600x1200. Otherwise its all squishy washy...
Myself 21" Eizo CRT@100hz 1280x960 4xFSAA 8xAniso, X850XT First the font was horrible, now I'm more use to it, but I still prefer the old one.

I'd like to add that I don't have as much eye strain anymore but the text is still unreadable in a lot of cases.
>> 6's, 8's and 9's look alike in some cases >> G, 6 and & look alike >> Decimals can't be seen in many cases >> Text is WAY too small in the chat input box >> Text should have at least one larger size for high resolutions
For a game that deals with numbers as much as this, the numbers should ALWAYS be readable. The new font is tolerable but I'm sure there are hundreds of better options. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Still working on |

The font is just barely readable when set to wide. Mind you, this is one godawful expensive monitor too.
The problem is not the font itself, but the size. Its just too damn small.

Totally loving it. Have to admit the game fonts and menus appear to be a little nicer to look at in 1024x768 but since I have an LCD it pretty much relegates me to the higher res and smaller text. Doesn't matter though, Eve has got the best menus of any game I have ever seen. I downloaded it, played it, fell in love with the art of the game and the storyline. Keep up the good work!

I play at 1920 x 1200 on a 23" apple cinema. I've never had problems reading the chat and windows in eve, but this new font is really hard on the eyes. Makes them burn and gives me a headache on top of it. The overview is really bad, probably from the lack of contrast because the font isn't white, its grey. Many of the characters lack definition and as others have stated the numbers are tough to read. The capital letters that are used all over the place just don't flow and are very disruptive to the eye when try to read things.

Font is a bit odd looking to me. The absolute worst part is the input section in the chat window - the font size in there is miniscule and can't be adjusted so I can barely see/read what I am typing. Fortunately I am an ok typist. Font is also pretty small on the market section and the item descriptions - for the longest time I though nanofiber hull mods resulted in inertial reduction of 125%, not 12.5% cause I could not see the '.' between the 2 and the 5.

Edited by: Expert Newbie on 20/12/2005 06:34:03 17 inch LCD at 1280x1024 EVE windowed mode at 1152x864 New font is bad not because of the way it looks, but rather because it makes things unreadable. Take these for example:
Look at the range bonus, it looks like 125% instead of 12.5% Look at the system name, it looks like Sanqain instead of Sangain
On another note, it looks like a lot of people run their client in windowed mode. It can get pretty boring traveling around, I'm glad I can chat with friends and view webpages while doing so. ---------- |
