I used to have no problem making my own torps before the RMR patch. Now, when I select the "science & industry" button, pick a station, isntall the BP and hit "ok." absolutely nothing happens. Am I missing something?
TIA.

You need to click the accept quotation and not the OK button.

Yeah, the new production system has been designed by someone who hates producers (very much!) and is totally useless! It is already forcing some of our producers out of the game!

Edited by: Amaron Ghant on 17/12/2005 07:53:02 Absolutely no problem using the new system here. The more "Producers" that leave the game, the better for me |

I do quite a bit of production, mainly tech II.
Currently my only real gripe with the new system, would be the fact that everything pops out of your factory at the end of your total build cycle....and not as each individual item finishes.
Since I like to start building the tech I version, and then start the tech II version building as unit #1 finishes, and then sell the tech II product unit by unit (or as in most cases, say 20 units at a time on the market). This gums me up pretty badly.
What if I can't sit and watch my maledictions build all fricken day long? I have a life and need to be in class etc. I can't sit and wait on the fricken factory. I need to be able to set a build run, (I'm FINE with it holding all of the components once I start the build run) and then go do whatever, once I have time to get back, it 's done with 5. Fine, I put 5 on the market and go about my business, and wait for the other 15 to finish later.
As it stands now, I have to sit and wait for the stupid things to pop out, just to be able to start the next run instantly, or I lose production time.
Not to mention, what happens if someone messes up and puts in a longer run than they really wanted to? Say 100 runs instead of 10?
There's no way to cancel!!!!!!!!!!!! What do I have to do, sabotage the dangn station to make the factories stop? Give me a break here.
All in all, I like the new system, but it needs some SERIOUS adjustments before I can be really happy with it. -----

Cancel button would be a exploit.
From a corp chat discussion:
You could tie up an assembly line in a busy station, with a long running job, then cancel it when you want to use it for "real."

You can't run jobs for more than a week, anyway.

I suppose that could work, but as soon as people catch on you're doing it, they'll queue that spot behind you.
Really, how I thought this was going to work is that you pick a job and it enters a queue. If there's an open slot, you're installed. In that method, if you canceled, it couldn't really be abused since your next job would be at the back of the waitting line if you use the BPO you had in research previously.

What on Earth for? The dialog boxes need a few usability tweaks (such as defaulting and not closing things up and the ok button becoming cancel) but it works. -- (Battle hardened miner)

You can still streamline your whole production. Just build up some more stock, put in some more smaller jobs. You will loose a day or 2 over it, but you can still easily streamline it.
To a point where you dont have to sit and way for something to be finished. Just reorganize your logistics arround it and do some smart planning.

Heloo all,
Thanks for the pointers. However, when I AM in station. And, when I select that station, install the BM...the only option I get is "OK," and "Cancel." There is no "accept" option.

I believe I read somewhere that the new manufacturing system was a means of server optimization. This way, manufacturing jobs as processed by server in one go, rather than as an ongoing server hogging process.

Are you clicking the "Use Assembly Line" in the lower right when you select an available slot?
