..and that's after 3 zones bad boys I had to get past

Had that one too. If you made it that far you've completed the mission. You're not required to take on those NPC's.
I can't imagine what's past those though (noticed a acceleration gate past them) a Dread maybe?

If you can't complete it (no wonder) then petition it under "agent mission in progress" to have it canceled by GMs. This mission is intended for lvl4 and as always, CCP mixed things up. This always happens whenever they start messing with missions in any major way.

just kill the one ship thats close to you and the mission should be ready to complete.
Its not a level IV mission, you just dont need to kill the huge amarr fleet.
