Let me start off by saying the new rats and abilities have been making NPCing much more interesting and fun (for the most part). I do have a big gripe with the Guristas, however, who have become a bit painful to hunt in comparison to the other pirate corporations.
I personally use a snipe setup to hunt Guristas NPCs in 0.0. I was cutting through my first through belts just fine until I came across a spawn with two of the jamming rats. Unfortunately, as I got half way through the shields of these ubertanked jammers, I found myself target jammed 130km away.
Normally, this wouldn't be a problem as I know they do break the target jam. Due to the cruiser's insane resistances though, I was never able to break the tank of either of the cruisers due to the 5 second window I had to shoot at them in every half a minute.
I'm curious to know if any other rats are nossing or using tracking disrupters at this range. If not, why do the Guristas? The target jamming is by far the hardest rat effect to cope with, and it has come on so strong that you almost have to skip over the spawns with jamming rats.
I don't have a problem with the target jamming itself, but the strength of the jamming is far too strong and is unaffected by range. A backup array is out of the question, as many people such as myself simply cannot waste a low slot on such a mod.
Maybe I just haven't figured it out yet, but is there actually a viable way (solo) of hunting Guristas anymore? ----------------------

you have 3 choises...
A) damp them
B) use ECCM
C) spoon feed them back the EW
oh and you can jamm at that range... with a scorp... maybe they have the same kickass bonuses *shrugs* ____________ The cargo bay is overloaded and cannot be made to fit Expanded Cargohold I. It is currently only capable of fitting 8772.12 units and it is currently jammed full with 9558.33 units. |

Add to this the fact that there is NO indication that your being target jammed or of any ECM use by the NPC rats.
One minute you got several targerts, and you working your ways thru them... next minute, NO targets what so ever.
No combat log entry of ever being jammed or of ECM use by the rats. It happens an ANY range as well.
I agree, there are some serious balance issues here.

A. Doubt it would work. B. I hear they don't work too great (and a complete waste of a slot you don't need against any other rat corporation.) C. Not the most viable thing to do with an Amarr ship :/ ----------------------

Some ships simply do not have the slots to spare for ECCM (or damps for that matter). I can't see any other way to solve the problem other than with those mods so I don't think I'll be doing too well NPCing anymore. ----------------------

if your sniping then you should have a few slots free for ECCM in either the lows or mids
one ECCM in the mids one in the lows and you should be safe...
and ECCM has got a boost in this patch... ____________ The cargo bay is overloaded and cannot be made to fit Expanded Cargohold I. It is currently only capable of fitting 8772.12 units and it is currently jammed full with 9558.33 units. |

Will one ECCM prevent an Armageddon from getting jammed? Seems like it wouldn't be enough. ----------------------

Edited by: Grimpak on 18/12/2005 18:22:00 heh... I see that hunting serps is not as bad as hunting guristas.
Them things keep dampening me!
Did they hired Burn Eden to instruct them how to properly use damps?
...it's rather cool tho, now I need to be more alert about it. -------------------

Its also cool how frigates can get a lock on you from over 150km...
The optimal on an ECM module is what... 45km? and even with the bonuses from the cruisers (BB for example) it doesn't bring it upto 130km...
I haven't been unfortunate enought to get close enought to the AF or HAC rats in Delve... Hell, I havent even seen any (unless they are the Elder whatever)... ___________
Dont mind me, I'm Forum-Whoring cause I dont have anything better to do with my life...

I'm just a newbie and I rat at 0.5 (they are hard enough for me). Since RMR some rats have picked majorly speed. (Like MWDs.) And yes, they can jam me for a while.
I don't know what others feel about it but as a newbie I think it has made my day more interesting actually. I'm all for it. But that's just me and at 0.5.

well actually having actually flown scorps and bb's for a while its easy to get 120km range on your racial jammers and even jam things 170km plus (with more difficulty) because with skills ( foreign subject it seems) the falloff comes into play.

i've been playing with Gurista's... yea, sometimes i get jammed up by them, but i just activate my weapons (so they blink), and keep re-locking, after a short while it happens, and then the rat dies, end of problem....

friend said that a guristas deadspace cruiser was jamming him every cycle in a harpy with an ECCM that had like 22 sensor strength.

That doesn't work so well against the HAC rats - they repair all of your damage before you can lock them again. ----------------------

The best bet is using caldari ships with missiles to kill npcs with tracking disruptors.
Jamming is screwed up, lets see if CCP fix it.
