Probably not cheap, probably not in a good location, probably in poor condition,,,
But hey,, you guys will put up with it
It's not like I'm gonna do a bad job or anything - you try selling time shares
If your lucky I might even give you a copy of the plans

I know I dont want to.
Yep - I do actually.
How about doing the year 2000 project for a group of systems all talking together spread across 26 countries and multiple factories - each computer using multiple CPU's.
A company with an 8 billion dollar turnover.
And I had 3 bugs - and no lag.

If you have noticed Eve is run via SQL - it doesnt really matter which language is used - be it Cobol (Rates have been really good for this old language), C, RPG, Java,,,
By the way,,, from what I have seen as a so called 'expert' C, C++ and Java are way, way, way off any comparisons to both the size and complexity of any 2nd generation language databases. I know since I use Java amongst other languages.
I'm not bragging - I'm stating a fact of how other people manage to perform major updates to thousands and thousands of programs on a daily basis and have little or few problems.
How can it be that a so called performance patch causes serious lag ?

we're supposed to take your input on programming languages and programmers seriously when you can't even tell the difference between a comma and a period?

Did no one buy AOE 3 the day it came out? That was worse than any patch on Eve =P

Edited by: SiN x on 18/12/2005 19:21:55 Listen, The patch rewrites allot of eve meaning the cache that was build along with the databses are currently working differently than they did before. You can test things on a single server like singularity server for ages and it will be allot different when you apply it to a cluster like tranquility.
Give the servers time to adjust themselves, Give cpp time to apply any patches that maybe causing performance problems. It takes a little time.
I am not saying im an expert at databases, But a cluster is something I do know about.

You do know there is a saying, "it is easier said than done...". Not mocking at your abilities but almost 99.99% of us in the forum have never seen how complicating the codes are and how are they implemented. We all can only speculate how it is being done but for me, I will always add another 80% difficulty factor in guessing how it is done because I do not think that things are that simple in the world. ----------------

Well I have to admit...
CPP got a new QA team and there is still a ****load of bugs.... how can something be released with so many bugs? It was rushed out the door... it was still being patched 5 hours before we could download the final patch.
He has a point. -

Sin X, seriously I agree with you. Time will tell and probably it's nothing more than a bit of bad SQL on the market coding.
But I cant help wind up the people saying the patch is the best thing since sliced bread.
You know as well as I do that in the business world you would not be allowed to get away with this. Yet people are so wound up in this game that they would swear black is white.
So I'm having a bit of fun while I cant play Eve and why not have it with a bunch of people sucking up to CCP ?
Ok I'm twisted but I'm having some fun

Yes, he does but I have also seen many multi-million/billion projects that took ages to develop but when it finally hits space, it went poof and everything was gone in seconds. Now, I am sure they had a very good QA team, etc. but who knew that it was a very small tiny, eeney, meeney bug that made the whole thing popped so fast. ----------------

Well, TBH, this EvE is a game. Bad patch, so what, nobody is going to die or lose millions of RL cash in the bank's hard drive somewhere. If I am a MMO developer, I will probably do the same thing as CCP, afterall it is better that I bring out content and fix it than not bringing out content at all and spend more time fixing. Eventually, when it is live, there is going to be fixes anyway.
It is not like I am programming in ADA for some high tech, multi-threaded environment that if I mis-program something, something bad is really going to happen soon. ----------------

well as your such a programming god and can do a better job than ccp..why not make ur own MMO? i would love to see you lag free game..so please do so.
And their is a differnce between been a fanboy and thinking its the ebst thing since sliced bread, and been tolerant to a very difficult project, knowing all the problems will be fixed as usual..something i think u would do a much worse job that ccp...so "let those withou sin be the first to cast stones" the day you make a MMO with no lag and less problems and is more succesful than eve..then ill listen to ur rubbish _____

how can a simple performance patch cause serious lag ? - well the answer is simple my friend, human error, its the same reason people have car accidents when driving a car and thats such a simple concept.
