I always thought the same. Stations seem rather small compared to the ships and hangars. especially the Amarr and Gallente hangars. Those seem gigantic on the inside, but on the outside they sometimes wouldn't even fit, given the station geometry.
But then again it's a design issue. Imagine if everything was scaled realistically. And imagine ship maintenance arrays... POS's would need to be HUGE! The bubble Diameter would be something up in the 15,000+ kilometer range... sooo yeah.
Station size is fine to be honest. I mean I wouldn't mind realistic scales, but at the moment it's not something that's bothering me.
Oh and one more thing. If i recall correctly, they showed something at fanfest that was some concept of animated hangars (the docking part) where you could visually see your ship fly in and dock (think, "Flying in stations") and if that's being worked on, the logical thing would be to scale up the stations accordingly.
One can only hope. But seeing as EVE keeps getting additions and improvements, I'd say this all might happen Soon(TM). |

Perhaps it's time for the biggest ships to actually dock outside the station and as such get access to station services remotely though be under the protection of the station's shield, at least you could see what's going on outside.

good idea maybe they'll include oh lets say things like WORKING DOORS! or actual places to walk to instead of up and down a ramp looking at a 3 panel flatscreen, a mirror, a bed which you cant lay on, or perhaps add a toilet or a kitchen or how about a pilot's lounge where folks can actually sit on the same couch and cross their legs. instead we have detention centers or single cell prisons. /fix captain quarters.. how about a nice garage allowing the player to select up to 2 or 3 of their own ships to accompany the main one left spinning. idea's! fresh idea's..
while they're at it give me a dust pistol and a holster cause im going to freak out the day that door panel turns green and someone or anything walks thru it. |

Why? "Small" is a relative term. Those big caldari stations (like Jita 4-4) are hundreds of cubic kilometres in volume.
Oddly enough the main tradehub stations (Jita Amarr, Rens, Dodixie, Hek, etc), main station should probably be about 3x the size they are at the moment.

The "bag of holding" feature (those of you who know what that is go clip your nose hairs) of stations is gamebreaking.
Time to start limiting the docking bays and storage rates. |

IMO there should be ONE neutral system somewhere with an extremely large station in it, like a space "Coruscant" of EVE if you will.
A station so large that even supercaps can dock there.
