Edited by: Aragor on 24/01/2006 21:24:32 OMG - 10 Pages! I may have missed a similar post in previous pages, but after reading the first few pages, here are my constructive suggestions for overall a better mission system (and one that would solve a lot of the problems that players are bringing up):
From my experience in many Lvl-3's and Lvl-4's, and from a lot of the posts I read, it seems like the Insta-Aggro behavior by NPC's is by far the worst of any problem with the mission system as a whole, although I'm sure some individual missions have bugs or quirks that need to get some attention as well.
Let's face it....why assemble a sophisticated complex, with rats in multiple and often well-balanced groups (in terms of ship composition), when in the end the whole dang complex just aggros you instantly on entry or after you fire on one group? It doesn't seem like this would be the intention of setting up a complex for people to run missions in. After all, the name IS "complex", I would think meaning a complex/sophisticated "dungeon" to have an adventure in, not a ball of red "+" symbols that light up like a Christmas tree on steroids and PWN you in seconds.
How about this....stop the Insta-aggro, and spread the rat groups out more....perhaps even making the complex larger and more of an experience traveling WITHIN a given level in addition to taking gate-jumps to other levels. If multiple rat groups are designed to aggo together, then place them close together, or link them such that one group aggros up close and another aggros from 100+ km out.
Just as one could argue against Insta-Aggro as being unfair to players, it's just as bad having everything in 1 spot so you can warp in, pop one group, pick the next group, "rinse and repeat" without hardly moving more than 20-50km and still end up close to the gate for the next level. I can understand why many people can consider these missions as being easy. And the ability to turn a difficult mission into an easy one by just dropping a bookmark with a shuttle and warping in with a tank or sniper to easily take out the complex...well that may be smart thinking and the way to go in many situations, but should that really be the way to have fun and sucessfully beat a mission? Heck I've done just that with Lvl-4 Right Hand of Zazz, and yea, I felt good to have figured a way around the "problem" with the mission (Insta-Aggro/EW and a WHOLE Lot of damage up close), but after a few times I find myself saying "yea, but is this really an adventure?" "Is this really fun?"
And with my suggestion (I think a few others have suggested it too) of having rat groups more separated in terms of distance and aggro-tendancy, you could mix up the composition of groups to add more variety.....for example have a battleship/battlecruiser or two in some Lvl-3 mission groups, and not in others groups. Players can see what they are up against with any given group, and can avoid it if they wish...sometimes with no consequence but in other cases not being able to complete the mission (they would still have time to go back and get a better ship/setup or form up with some corp-mates to tackle a tough spot).
So, there are my suggestions...I guess in the end maybe too much to change by next patch but a great start would be ending the Insta-Aggro situation and/or preventing Insta-Aggro by more than one group (else why have more than one group in the first place).
