Yesterday, I got that, so I got the appropriate tank set up in my Ferox, and warped in. 3 cruisers, no biggie, I started to kite and attack. First down, Shield 90%, cap at 50% (cap was low because I warped in literally 9 km from those cruisers.. their guns ate through my shields, so I had to activate shield booster until I got farther away)... second I got to 75% when the frigs warped in. They caught up with me, and literrally ate through my shields. I had to warp out, and lick the wounds.. when I came back, more mobs spawned, including the captain. At that point, after warping in, my shield didn't hold for even 10 seconds with all the tanking mods active, and my armor was already at 50% when I warepd out (good thing I was already warp aligned to warp out)... the repairs cost me 770k, almost nullifying the ISK reward from the mission, which I didn't even finish :O
But perhaps I lack the skill to be able to attempt this mission properly. Afterall, this is my second week of EvE after a YEAR and a half of no playing.
This is one of several posts which alude to warping out only to return to superior numbers and having little chance to succeed at the mission. My reponse to this would be to grab a partner or two and clear those initial Cruisers before the reinforcements warp in. I know this sounds elementary, but if you think about it, unless you have some serious skills, allies = greater damage distribution and output. Try the mission with a corpmate or a few friends and see how that goes...I am positive you will have better results.
My first Level III mission was Human Cattle and I got roasted. My second Level III mission was Extravaganza, so I decided to bring two corpmates with me just to see how it worked. I learned a lot about pulling smaller groups (target one unit of the group from as far out as possible, and shoot at them, bringing just that small group). This allows you buy some time while they are travelling to you. Regroup your shields/armor/cap and grab some loot and reload. I ran Rogue Investation and used this method to great success solo with one warp-out for loot drop-off. If I hadn't run a tougher mission with some corpmates, I would have never been able to complete Rogue Infestation solo. I would have flown toward the groups aggroing more and one group.
I found that with 4mil SP, most of it in Gunnery and fitting skills, you should try to get into a BC since the increase in Armor/Shields is what saved me many times. Here is my setup most of the time:
Brutix: 4xHeavy Ions Webber, ABII, Tracking Comp, Cap Booster (200 strength Charges) Med Armor Rep, 3x active hardeners (varies), 1600mm Rolled Tungsten Drones are a mix depending on what I am facing, but Light/Med.
This thing is slow as hell, but I can tank for a pretty long time while sustaining heavy fire. I usually web the little frigs and sic the drones on them while I get to the big ships with ABII going. The little frigs/drones will follow you anyway, always in range of the webber for you. So you can keep jumping to the next target while you Drones whoop up for you. I found this is a pretty good process, and I only died because I was stupid and didn't align when I should have (I was in a Thorax at that time).
Anyway, I hope this helps some folks who are just picking up the Level III missions. It has helped me a lot, especially the pulling techniques. That has proven to be very VERY valuable. =============================================== Sigs for ISK? Yeah, I got those. evemail me for references.
