When I was on a trial account back in August, they weren't allowing any more than 3k trial accounts to log in at any given time. Did they up this #? Because 3k is only 15% of the 19k or 20k people online during peak times atm. Keiron posted earlier that they have about 15k trial accounts active right now, so I doubt half of them are loggin on at any given time considering there's 86k paid accounts and fewer than 25% are ever online...
Also, if they're going to do anything with trial accounts, I think they should stop handing them out rather than telling those who already have them that they can't play. That would certainly keep them from buying a subscription. _______________ Spiritu Sanctum |

I have been playing the last 9 hours or so before the reboot. I had made some ~50 jumps and traded millions of units of cargo. I had generally no lag at all. The only time I had lag was when I visited Isanamo. That node was wild.
Which brings me a question: When the kids don't get instant feedback from the client they re-click the same things like madmen. Does this cause even more stress for the servers and lag? Does anyone know? Because I think that when it starts getting really bad all the kids start re-clicking like there's no tomorrow. And then it tips over.
I saw lots of talk about "reconnecting". People claimed that it "unstucks" them. But doesn't that actually cause major stress on the servers, making the situation on the long run even worse?
Shouldn't the client just tell the user that it's of no use to re-click on things? And perhaps give a 5 minute delay or so for reconnecting under those specific circumstances?
I don't know how the client/server works internally but it might be wise for someone who actually knows the internals to ponder about that. I'm just wondering..

opinions are like ********s, everyone has one. here's mine. thanks to ccp for providing me with a great game, as a SWG refugee i was used to massive (200MG+) patches and a massive bug fest after each patch, with regualar over-runs on each downtime (whenever sony felt like it) up to 24hrs. so whilst i can't currently go to a system frequented by hostiles to pick up my next skill, kill rats for isk or mine towards my next ship/corp mo, i'd still like to offer all the hard working ccp minions my best christmas wishes and thanks for the hard work in ironing out any remaining bugs in "red moon rising" when i'm sure you would much rather be kicking back with the family at this time of year.

the big growth spurt has them catching up good thing is hte profits are going up and we know CCP more profits = much more spending straight back into the game they have 4 new programming positions open as well as new expensive hardware that will make them one of the worlds top 500 supercomputer list (quite an achievement for a online game like this) will be another big publicity gain for both them and iBM etc i dare say CCP please restore the recruitment channel |

I do not think it has anything to do with the amount of people, or at least very little to do with it. If I get laggy and log out and then restart my machine and come back on, my lag is almost totally gone. It seems like there is a memory leak somewhere.
Possible it could be from the info when changing servers that isn't releasing it on the server you just left or from the databases being accessed. No idea, but item searches take a very long time, and slow down the more you do. Perhaps it isn't releasing the results of the last one?
I'm new to the game and I think the database should be divided into many different elements, and not everything in one database query.

Why not we have 2 DTs a day policy until the situation improves, say one at 11AM and another at 8PM. May help a lot with resetting the system a new? ----------------

Low sec areas seem to be a lot more calm than infested Empire space. A bliss to train skills there and do the occasional flying around getting to know the region. -----------------------------------------------------

Hey, I don't complain. How many here have flown endless Extravaganzas?
I mean, imagine flying an Angel Extra, fighting for like 2 hours to the end pocket (no, not because the enemies are so tough, but it takes a few minutes to open a cargo box. But boy, they must've boosted the drone damage, the enemy is dead before my weapons fire the first shot. Though, it sometimes takes about 5 minutes before they WOULD fire the first shot, so...), then ... reboot.
Ok.
Again, same Extravaganza. Of course, since after a reboot, all the nice NPCs are back. So, another 2 hour battle, crowned by another ... reboot.
Now, I finally see the conspiracy behind it all. It's not really a server issue, the Angel Cartell holds the CEO's SO for ransom and forces them to reboot just at the moment when I'd open fire on their officers! They want to wear me down from doing the same mission over and over!
So, could any kind soul out there fly that Damsel in Distress mission so we can get over this? :)

3k max, last I checked that was still the cap for active trial accounts.

100k accounts 14k trial 86 reals, the math from there is easy but boils down to a couple of k trials.

Just had to laugh at the "Give Eve for Christnas" advert in the top left of the website. Good idea give someone a present you know dont work and if it did would contribute more to our current screw up. On a more serious note I fully understand that the Devs are doing there best to sort it, its in their own best interest after all Eve not working = cancelled subscriptions = no job.
My question though is, and i apologise if this has been posted elsewhere, what recompense are we going to get?? I can live with the constant reboots, lag etc so long as i'm not paying for it!!

i agree that this problem of lag has little to do with the numbers online. i was dropping to the desktop frequently without seeing the usual lag issues. it even happened inside a station once.
the lag problem seems to be getting better because i havnt been stuck in a warp today or yesterday and i could use drones ok. the drop to the desktop seems to be related to the way the client uses memory which cold war didnt do.
i run folding@home as a service under eve and of course turned it off to see if it was a problem, which it wasnt, but it did show something interesting. i look at its logs and find that folding had no problem under eve using a large percentage of the processor while i was doing little in game, in rmr eve takes everything!, folding was never given priority. the logs show no gaps at all. this isnt a problem other than the worry that eve is doing something that it shouldnt be. what is the processor doing while sitting in a station? audio?
i am using a xp2600, 1g ram, fx5900zt 128m video card, sb live sound
btw, my drop to desktop problem seems to have solved itself tonight.. can only hope. right click stacks lag is still huge eve-wide.

I'm just wondering what CCP's and the GM's stance is on reimbursing losses caused by this lag. We all know we shouldn't go ratting/agenting etc after a patch but we do and as per usual lots of people lose ships and the like. A statement saying they'll be more sympathetic due to the system-wide problems kieron mentioned at the opening of this thread or even that they'll be holding to the same policy would be appreciated by the masses. (me too )

There were a number of hotfixes applied during today's downtime to address such issues as the lag, lack of autopatch ability and other stability issues.
The Dev team will continue to look into the lag issues and will continue to fix any problems that arise.
