Hi folks. What is the deal with downtime? Are there regularly (or irregularly) scheduled downtimes? If regularly scheduled, when? If irregularly scheduled, are they announced and, if so, where? I see references to "today's downtime", but I'm just trying to figure out whether I should have known it was scheduled and planned on doing something else.
Don't get me wrong. I know downtime, bugs and crashes are a part of MMORPGs, but I'm just trying to figure out whether the ones that happen on purpose are announced or part of a regular schedule.

There is a daily downtime every day from 11 to 12 GMT. There are sometimes unsheduled downtimes but they are a consequence to a heavy lag / server inestability.

EST is GMT-5. So 11 GMT is 6 EST. Since GMT is done on a 24-hour clock, 11:00 is 11 AM, and 23:00 is 11 PM. So... Rejoice, for downtime occurs as America sleeps!

It happens at 4AM here, and if it didn't I'd never get any sleep.

downtime is 11:00 to 12:00 GMT that's 11:00 to noon
gmt-5 is 6 am to 7 am
so U.S. east coast downtime is 6:00 am to 7:00 am
thankfully i get home from work right around 7 a.m.

References to "today's downtime" would be the scheduled downtime that happens once a day, everyday, for 1 hour a day (sometimes 1 hour and a couple of minutes but CCP are usually quite good at keeping to time)
Any other downtime isn't planned, and thankfully doesn't happen that often (even if a few hundred forum posts tell you it does every time the server crashes  ) Sometimes you get a 15 minute warning in-game that the server has to be rebooted, but most unscheduled downtime occurs when the system has a bit of a moodswing (all computers are female ) and the first you know about it is you get kicked and CTD.
