The skill training info you get under "My Character" won't show the second skill as training (just shows the first skill as completed), but in game it is actually working. At least that was my experience this morning. BOOM! Oops.

Also, when you aren't familiar with a mission, I'd leave the salvagers and tractor beams off. Might as well take some firepower or NOS until you know what to expect and are sure you can afford to give up the high slots.

Thanks both of you. That information is both very helpful and encouraging. I know a cruiser isn't the most efficient way to handle lvl 3's, but I was looking forward to the challenge and it's good to know it's not hopeless.
