This has to be the most annoying thing CCP does every single time they patch the game.
STOP F*CKING WITH MY OVERVIEW SETTINGS!
The latest adventure is now moons are icons and show up when you highlight a cluster of belts or planets. Other than warping your dread to the moon to shoot a pos, who needs the damn moon icon? I mean really, every pos that is friendly should be bookmarked. I just went through a 30 minute session of changing overview settings and making new tabs to overlay them so they go away.
Do you really think the average eve player is going to figure this all out, how to remove it?
Why add more crap to the screen to add to your largest problem of lag?
Why **** off your clients very freaking patch?
Anyways thats my rant, if people need it we will put together a tutorial abour how to eliminate useless sh*t from your screen.

When you patch, don't tell the auto-patcher to launch EVE after finishing. Your settings will remain intact. |

But why rely on such static solutions implemented by CCP so solve problems when we have the playerbase to come up with effective and adaptive solutions? |

Edited by: DHB WildCat on 17/04/2008 18:05:58 Well from the replies, I see that this only affected pilots I personally know. If you overview and screen does not show icons for moons on it then you are lucky. It was very difficult to get rid of them. I can not tell you how frustrating it was to log in and actually see moons on my screen. I mean really, you know how long it took me to figure out about new tabs, and how to overlay and eliminate certain brackets, while maintaining others? However if this only affected 1 percent of Eve then fine. I will retract everything I said.
If this has affected you, let us known and we will tell you how to eliminate the moons from the screen.

Well if you ask any of these other asshats you patched incorrectly, however, I will tell you that you need to get orientated with the new bracket function in the overview settings.
Right click on the default tab, and chose add new tab. This is a new overview setting in function but you'll use them to eliminate the brackets. Make sure to include everything you want. Overlay them, and since moons are unchecked in the second setting they should no longer appear on your screen. Your not screwed, CCP are just a bunch of a idiots worried more about appearance "omg we can add moons isnt that cool" instead of performance.

You have to reconfig your bracket settings not overview settings for the bracket. To me it doesn't make sense but hey I really don't enjoy spending a night figuring this out. I have no clue how to get moons off of basic overviews though. I think I'm not the only one that doesn't want 20 Brackets across my screen. |

STOP F*CKING WITH MY OVERVIEW SETTINGS!
Im being told to add that I am including new tabs and brackets as part of the overview setting since, well geez thats where they are located.

Hahaha
two points.
Seriously, the default overview setup is lame but figuring out how to use tabs isn't rocket science. It's a dumb interface (like most of the UI in eve it's organized really stupidly) but cmon people. |

Settings intact for all tested accounts. Btw I run /LUA:OFF on all accounts - thus I never use the "launch" button on patch as it would run the client without LUA. |

I think this is a mini-game CCP has implemented.
Instead of playing Eve, I'm fooling around with Overview Tabs, Brackets and what not.
Fun at beginning....very very annoying at the end - especially when you finally figured it out through test&trial - and then boom..gone again.

That is not the fix. I always launch from the patcher and I haven't lost my settings in a long while. This is on two machines, one XP, one Vista. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

Well, my client waits till a few days have passed, and then resets everything at random, at different times. Channels one login, overview the next, and the third one, I lose it all, except that I now target back the first 5 things I get locked by.
Is it so much to ask for a simple settings file that one can make patch-proof?

Launched using the autopatcher button, didn't lose my settings
But on the brackets front i'm much happier to have full control over what appears on my screen instead of it just being set by ccp...
I now have a moons setting, a planets setting, a fleet combat setting, a belts setting and so on and by turning them off in fleet you get a remarkably large performance increase
Oh and backup your settings before you patch if this keeps happening, that way you can just drop them back into the right place after its deleted them and you keep them as is...
And finally stop posting in orange its not big and its not clever |

The only overview gripe I have is that every time I undock now, I have to select one of my presets from the list. Each time I undock, it tells me I have an unsaved overview selection even though I dock with a preset selected. Every time it is random what is on the overview, sometimes gates, sometimes roid belts and sometimes all the faction/police/trade ships, never always the same settings, the only thing that remains constant is the stations. |
