I LOVE that the moons show up as brackets in space now, it makes quick scans for enemy POS's, ships, ect much quicker. Time is of the essence, and knowing where the moons are while working the directional scanner is a huge time saver. And I get to kill people faster.

Edited by: Corstaad on 18/04/2008 21:55:44 Do you realize you used to be able to have a normal overview up and just ALT push for this? My only real irks after figuring it out is the wasted Default bracket, the amount of brackets I'll have, and overviews having moons on them. |

yeah, i wish they would bring this back as well.
brackets are neat and everything, but i want to mess with the overview as little as possible when im fighting/chasing peeps. Otherwise I turn on the default accidentally and then i cannot find targets on my overview.
as is now, i just leave the moons up in space....they are distracting when looking for the "normal" direction scan icons such as belts, planets, and gates. Not the end of the world, but a regression in usability just the same.
P.S. I have never lost my overview settings except on the patches that intentionally deleted the settings, which we havent had in awhile now. Even my pre-made drone groups persist in the correct ships. Other people i know haveto constantly setup the overview stuff. Wish we could nail down a common theme amongst those having problems.

In EVE 2008, configuring your client is a major PVP skill ...
At least they added something challenging when the rest of the game was dumbed down gradually.
EVE Online: a cold, cruel world where (RL-)rich people replace their losses with GTCs sold to poor students who need to farm ISK to afford their play time ...

I actually agree with Wildcat on everything about brackets. I have icons randomly disappearing in space all the f-ing time, making stuff damn near impossible to select, and I can't just hit ALT anymore to bring up the bracket.
I am now up to 6 overview tabs, three of which are just saved as bracket settings for the three tabs I actually use, since there is no direct way to edit brackets other than setting them from an overview tab. If there was a way to select bracket settings on the overview settings panel, it would be useful. In it's current form it is a pain in the ass. When you have rats removed from your overview and their brackets disappear, you can't see them... losing an interceptor or similar small ship to a gate or belt rats would just be lame. ------------

I'm not quite sure what you are saying here but I find it works very well. I've taken to setting up two overview settings for each tab that I want, say.. "Not Blue" and "Not Blue Brackets". The brackets one will normally be similar but may include a couple of things I don't normally want on the overview (a common one for me here is drones, I want to see them in space but not on the overview).
Then you create the tab and set the overview and bracket filters by selecting the appropriate overview setting.
It's also easy to change. Simply load the overview or bracket setup you want to change, change it and save it again (would be nice to have a "Overwrite selected overview" option for this)
Admittedly the brackets/tabs setup really isn't what I'd call intuitive but once you have figured it out it's fairly easy to work with. |

Don't know what you're crying about to be honest. I haven't lost my settings since before trinity came out. In fact during the installation of the last patch my computer crapped itself and I was forced to redownload eve and reinstall it. When I logged in all my settings were still there, and everything was sweet.
As for the brackets, they've given a lot more flexibility to the overview. If it's a tad complex for you I suggest not posting on the forums any more coz you'll just end up make more of a fool of yourself. (The orange txt doesn't help either. Mother not give you enough attention when you were younger?) ----------------- Think of someone you consider of average intelligence... now realise this. Half the worlds population is dumber than that person. How does the world survive such stupidity? |

This is exactly what I asked myself after fiddling around with brackets. Why in the world they didnŠt make it an independant setting for Brackets only. Right now as I unsterstand it the bracket setting receives the on/off mode for brackets from the items that are enabled (visible) from overview which you apply to the bracket tab.
But there is still stuff not showing up properly. For example I would like to see the states (like green and blue stars) from my corp and alliance mates, I couldnŠt figure out how to activate these without having brackets for them or even with brackets. Just a no go and at least 1 hour wasted on these settings

Brackets can be different from your current overview.
I could make overview settings A, B and C. Each with their own tab. Then go onto the tab for overview A and load the bracket settings based on overview C.
Simple. ----

Its not simple and not we'll thought out there a ton of people with loads of Overview settings. A example is I have different settings for when I fly SB then a rifter. My ruppy is totally different from Blackbird. Travel settings, PvE settings, Complex setting, etc.. I can go one with no crap atleast 20 different overviews I have. I'm almost positive as well that there is alot of people that have more then me. Its alot of people assuming that since they have two brackets setup its all fine.

Of course you can. I have overview settings A, B, C. Then I also have overview settings bracket tabs Aa, Bb, Cc.
I don't use the same sets of brackets for everything, when ratting I want belts, planets, wrecks and rats, which means I have to have those on my overview to see the brackets for them... so Aa would have everything I want to see in space on setting A.
Same goes for PVP/Scanning, I have a scanning tab with moons enabled, but I don't want to see them on the overview just in space... Alt+Z has never worked for me other than turning all of my brackets on or off a couple times then magically making some disapper, like... I can see rats on my overview, but no red cross in space, or vice versa... or even not being able to see them at all, oh joy!
tl:dr -- All I want is it to be like it already is for overview settings but along next to 'Open overview settings' have a 'Open Bracket Settings' where you can customize which brackets show on which overview tab, without doubling the number of tabs that you need. |
