right, my first lv4 mission with drones and i have all kinds of bad, my caracal warped into the deadspace right at 1.5km for nearest drone and so before i can blink im taking damage... not nrmal drone damage, crazy damage, 19seconds after i warped in, i warped out with ~0/2600hp shield, ~15/800hp armor, ~900/1000 structure.
came back with my raven, had to warp again after 19seconds.
my question is how do people handel lv4 missions with drones cause they seem hella brutal. (if you have some solo raven rigs i would love to see them)

They are simple if you use the correct hardners. I armor tank drones all night fited with 2 x kin(active), 2 x thermal (active), 1 x large armor rep, 1 x medium armor rep.

I fly a Raven... it depends on the mission. Infiltrated Outpost drones do mostly Kinetic and Thermal and some EM (BSs do EM, and drone coronel) Rogue Drones do EM/Thermal and Kinetic If you want a safe setup, fit 3 Inv T2s (or 2 InvT2 1 Damage control). That should work OK. Also, on Infiltrated Outpost, make sure you activate the gate as soon as get within 2500 of it (from the bottom), if you jump from the top of the gate.... You will aggro alot of drones. Fly to maximun distance, and snipe, while running away from drones. Make sure you pack drones of your own. Seems to work for me.

is there any way aside from trial and error to find out what type of damage/weapons are being used against you?
and currently im only using t1 equip so training to t2 is my new priority.

There is now, because other people have already done the trial-and-error bit. Join the channel "LVL4" in-game, there's almost sure to be someone in there who knows the answer to whatever question you need to ask at the time. ________________________________________________

Best tank for drones of all sorts is 3 t2 energized adaptives. With armour compensation skills it gives you a higher average resist than having 3 t2 Active Hardners.
I use them for 5/10 drone complexes as well. --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |

Did they change the lvl4 drone missions? I never got aggroed in them ever, I could always just warp in, AB to like 50 km and then pick them off without even needing a tank...

Noob question. If you're landing smack in the middle of a bunch of drones, wouldn't smart bombs be useful? If not, why?

well i dont know if this will help since it is primarily for tempest or machariel.. i use it mostly on my mach but can be used quite effectively with a tempest as well and good gunnery skills. I go for the sniper setup with 1400's , either drone link augmentors ( for extra drone range) or whatever missile launcher you can fit. med slots best afterburner you can afford and use, 2x tracking comp 2's, sensor booster2 and one large tech2 shield booster. low slots : 3x gyro 2's and 1 power diag 2 (or 2 mower diag) trackenhancer2 (or nanofiber hull mod)
why a sniper setup you ask? well drones have one little fatal flaw they are slugs compared to tempest, phoon or machariel. you can out run them quite easily, there by kiting them out directly behind lowering their transversal velocity making for much better tracking. this is the only way i do rogue drone missions the key is to run like hell as soon as you warp in. also a set of +3% speed implants helps this setup out quite a bit. Hi,
I do both Rogue Drone Harrassment and [The] Infiltrated Outposts in a Muninn (Minnie HAC). My preferred mission ship is still the Raven, although I'm not too keen using it against 'drone missions'.
With a 10MN AB, lots of damage mods, and a modest tank on a HAC, you can specify your range against the drones in both the missions I mentioned above. RDH amazingly takes just over 30 minutes now (not including looting) in a HAC, yet it is one of the best missions for accruing LPs. IO takes around 55 minutes for me, even the Drone Controllers don't help.
When I used a Raven in these missions I found that the damage output inflicted by cruise/siege bays wasn't high enough, and the Raven being so slow would constantly get swarmed with drones.
To summise: keeping your distance appears to be the key.
