Ok, I'm sure someone is going to pipe in and say "the problem is ur RAM!!" although it's been tested and is fine.
The problem isn't your ram, but the problem involves ram. There is a known memory leak that will start to eat ram after 45 min or so I've heard. Your computer runs out, then switches to virtual memory. Thus the drop in performance. They are working on this issue since it is such a major one.
They are working on it ? That's the best news. Can anyone please post a link here to the dev thread discussing how they are working on it / providing updates ?
For me P4 3.8GHz HT , 1Gb dual channel RAM, 800FSB, ATI X700 pro, 2x250Gb HDD, and i can only run 2 clients for a limited time and 3 is a no-no (<2fps).
Reading threads elsewhere related to dual core AMDs, has anyone tried to set affinity to CPU0 or CPU1 to see how it runs ? I did this to all 3 clients (as one thread suggested) and it made little difference. Instead of both CPU's maxing out at 100% usage, CPU0 maxxed out at 50% and fps stayed the same.
OK so, 2 daft questions (from someone who obviously knows not a lot about puters ) :-
1. With three clients, if i set affinity to CPU0 for my main account and tie the other 2 clients to CPU1, will my 570HT go into melt down ? Has anyone already tried this ?
2. Still within windows task manager, is there any point / danger / likelihood of success changing the priority settings for the eve clients above normal ? Will that bork the operating system ?
Any comments welcome.

I have the same exact problem
at first I had 2fps, because I ran the game on a X2 3800+, setting affinity solves this problem.
now my fps is good, but every 10 seconds my game freezes for 2 secs...
no idea how to fix it.
I know it is not my hardware, so I'm hoping for a fix soon...

Had the freeze problem after the exodus patch. (while I did not have it before ) More people had this problem and one of them made a fix-file you had to run before starting EVE. Problem solved.
This sounds like the same problem to me. Not that it solves the problem right here and right now... but not worth whining and screaming HEAR YE HEAR YE I'M GONNA QUIT EVE BECAUSE OF THIS!!! (cos nobody gives a damn if you wanna quit, EVE has enough whiners already.) If more people have this problem someone will find an answer to it. There's just something not compatible with EVE on your system. could be windows or a driver or something else.
I must admit that I haven't tried RMR yet.

They fix the client when they find the problems... not until and they don't have to give you round the minute news flashes on their problem solving. Put the game down for a few days and take a chill pill if you PC is rejecting the new Client. I have no problems. And if you make a post about problems... post your system specs or you won't be missed when you quit.

X2 3800+ w. 2Gig of DDR400 and I run at affinity set to 0 via the "Run First" application. I can also run it just fine without it. AMD X2 driver without MS hotfix also I don't use Cool'n'Quiet.

Edited by: Rowgue on 22/12/2005 23:11:06 Edited by: Rowgue on 22/12/2005 23:10:25 Nvidia cards don't suck (the 5700 may but not in general). Nvidia cards actually outdo ATI performance wise for cards of the same level.
Nvidia cards stress performace over quality, and ATI stresses quality over performace. It's just a matter of what you prefer and how good all your other components are.
If you have to have the absolute best quality and your computer is beefy enough to make up for a little performance from the vid card then ATI is the way to go. If your comp is not Uber but still good, or you are just the kind of person that can sacrifice a little of the shiny graphics for better performance then Nvidia is probably your best bet.

You've summed up my opinion well... i view intel and amd the same way... intel = quality, amd = performance (speed)
I have always wanted quality over quantity/speed.
Honestly I think allot of these issues people are having can be corrected with an updated of the computers BIOS, a complete format reload of the operating system (no system restore crap)... and get the latest, well maybe not latest - a release or two previous to latest drivers...
I reformat my machine at least once a year... if not once every nine months or so... Clean out the dust... reseat everything... and check up on the fans, etc regularly... your computer is you baby... treat it nice and it won't vomit all over your fav shirt

Turn off your sound. CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-F12
Crative Labs cards are especially notorious for instability issues with Eve.
With sound on I can't run 2 clients with any expectation of stability... and the sound produced is full of pops clicks chirps and other very painful anomolies.
With sound off I can run 3 clients without a problem and up to 7 with some lag and monstrous degrees of HD thrashing.
You know what fixed alot of sound blaster live issues... Compaq drivers. They completely rewrote them and fixed a good deal of issues. (Still have a friend that uses one too)
So, take a peak and see if you can find the compaq version if you feel like experimenting. Since Compaq and HP merged, I don't see a lot of this trend, but it's worth a shot.

I haven't tweaked anything yet, however the game is getting better day by day. Just don't log in after 21:00 GMT.

"nobody cares if you quit " say someone in this thread... well I don;t share your opinion... this thread was for devs... to know that there are serios issues with the client... until 2 day where no words from them... like all was perfect and only the server has problems. What I wanting was some feedback from them. For all who say that the games works well I wish all the best and happy gaming.... and i also hope to not have problems like some of us had. But this is not a proof that we all ,with memory leaks and freezing stuff , have broken computers... Probably only if you encounter this problems you will understand how frustrating is to play at 10 fps and no one to care about.

Has CCP admitted to the memory leak yet ? Kinda scarey it seems they are hiding from it.

I think we can take it as read that they know there're problems. And since most new threads are just reiterating the same complaints, I'd personally rather the devs were busier working on the problems than reading the forums. Quote: until 2 day where no words from them... like all was perfect and only the server has problems. What I wanting was some feedback from them.
There's been plenty of feedback. If your complaint is that they haven't said "we will have everything fixed by Christmas Day, lunchtime GMT" then you're expecting too much. Faults take time to fix in anything and it's not aways possible to give a time. Quote: Probably only if you encounter this problems you will understand how frustrating is to play at 10 fps and no one to care about.
I wouldn't be playing at 10fps. I'd switch off, go do something else, and try again later.

It's OK to submit your frustration, but it's the way the frustration is submitted. Besides: If you read my reply well: I had freeze problems too (2s freeze every 10-15s after Exodus, never before.) and if you look at my system stats: well... framerate not very high i can assure you. So, yes, I know your problem frustrates you. What I meant was: Don't go screaming you will quit because of this problem. Nothing more, nothing less, no offence to you.

Edited by: Sith Princess on 23/12/2005 14:20:14 I am running two accounts on 2 computers.
One is a desktop and one is a laptop.
Before RMR the laptop had lowest FPS, but now i have to play my pvp character on that one because the fps has dropped by half on the desktop...no hardware or driver changes are done. I tried everything thats listed on the forums.
This is definatly a server-sided issue, and a resonse from CCP would be nice....

So, we get a response but not in a thread that we can reply to / interact with the devs - oh well :-
"Since the release of Red Moon Rising, we have deployed 11 hotfixes in downtimes addressing 28 various performance and crash issues on Tranquility. In addition to that, a small client patch is being assembled for deployment in the first week of January. Until then ... "
I am hoping this is the start of an attempt to fix the leaks .
I know they do not want to go making rash predictions, so for now I will be content with the assumption (by me) that this rather cryptic statement in the last news item is about tackiling the client issues in this and many similar threads.

Ive been having this problem too, but only after about an hour online. Then it starts pausing every 15 secs and accessing the harddrive. It runs fine until then. If I restart the client then it runs fine again. My machine is brand new. Its weird like the client gets screwed up after playing for a little while.

You see, this is what gets me. It's not the fact that people are cheesed off because of the problems. I've had problems too, and yes, they're very annoying indeed. I'm not trying to pretend that nothing's wrong, or that the problems don't detract from gameplay. I'm just trying to be reasonable.
No, what I can't understand is why people seem so unwilling to give even the tiniest amount of credit where it's due. Like here: the quote says "Since the release of Red Moon Rising, we have deployed 11 hotfixes". The poster comments "I am hoping this is the start of an attempt to fix the leaks". "The start" implies that until now, CCP have been sitting around on their ar... elbows (thank you, Baldrick) doing nothing about the problems, whereas the quote clearly says that that's not the case. They may not have solved the problems, but can we not at least acknowledge that they have been working on them?
As far as 'rather cryptic statements' go, well, I'm no programming wizard. There may be those players out there who can comprehend all the technical guff about servers, routers, memory leaks, this that and the other cobblers, but as far as I'm concerned, "we know there's something wrong and we're trying to fix it" is quite good enough.

I start this thread after one week from RMR when no client side patch was announced and no other word from the devs about the problems we have ... I hope they will fix them... I tell that I will stay 2 more weeks... So.. Happy New Year and hope for the best.

NttNeeda, I was having a very similar problem; lags followed by crashes, crash, crash. I changed my firewall settings two days ago and I haven't had any crashes or lags. On my firewall settings I removed the application rule for eve.exe. When I ran eve again I allowed eve to go online again. Let me know if this works for you. |

My problem is not related with lag.... is related with the performance of the client... but after I download and install the full client (was patched before) the things started to go well... i still have some frezes but now the game is playable :)

Where did you find this information Ittey?
This may explain the severity of the "lag" issues I've been having.
