I have an Nvidia Card 5700 Ultra... i dont use an Xfire I don't have Dual COre Procesors... I don;t have Hyperthreading... i read every damn post about so called "workarounds" .. nothing worked... in Cold War everthing was fine... all my other games don't have any problems... only RMR moves horible... so ... CPP broke a very good game..... i will wait another 2 weeks to see if they fix it.. (i doubt it) and i will cancel my subscription. I can;t play it... so why to pay ?

NOTE TO DEV'S:
Please set up a section on the forumns for the whiners of the Eve world!
Get a grip man! As I can see theres not a problem at all with the client. if there is then theres something wrong with ur pc setup. As we all know, the RMR patch has been applied. Obvioisly there are still some problems and some "unexpected" problems surface within the patch. What people like you should do is be a little more patient. If you've got a problem report it. It may help the DEV's resolve a certain problem faster. Yes sometimes I get a slight pause when firing my Artil's but hell, I can live with it, cause I know that it'll be sorted soon. I started my trial just before the Exodus patch came out, but I stuck with it and it was great. Now stop whining and get off yer box.
/me gets off box too
PS If you continue to whine then maybe quitting might be a good idea!!!!

I've heard of this problem with a few other games when running them on a dual-core system.. try and set eve to run only on ONE of the processors r.

I tried selecting single core this morning - did not work for me (but i have HT pentium 4 not AMD so maybe that's why?) but I sympathise totally with the thread author.
RMR has made multiple account usage totally impossible even in eve's backwaters.
There is STILL no sticky for these issues (WHY???), no word from the Devs that I have seen (so lets STICKY one of these fps threads so they can collate dev replies) .... why shouldn't people be fed up ?
Mods - sticky one thread please Devs - how about some thoughts / ideas - there are too many people complaining on too many different computer systems for this to be fixable by the player base.
Cold war was not like this. Why is RMR so bad ?

I run 2 accounts, post RMR no issue... except when the server boots people :)
comp specs:
D845EBG2 mb p4 2.25GHz w/512kb cache 768mb DDR ATI 8500DV Creative 5.1 Live sound card
Latest drivers/patches/updates all around, thou my bios is about 5 revisions old
I have windows video settings to 1280 x 1024 16bit color depth. The 3d settings in windows are at default/medium.
In game: audio disabled trails off sun occluded by ships off all color deapth to 16 bit Windowed mode 1024x768
I only keep 1 window open at a time, I always minimize, then open the other. No other applications open, anti-virus disabled.
I have a friend with slightly lower comp specs that runs two accounts. Only major difference is that he runs them full screen, and alt+tabs between windows. Though he seems to have more problems, but again his machine is slightly less powerful than mine. (NVIDIA Cards SUCK!)
My advice is pay to play. (let the flames begin for this) Intel and ATI all the way... I have had nothing but poor performance with AMD and NVIDIA... Intel and ATI have lasted longer and out performed everytime.
So please everyone FLAME my Intel and ATI with your AMD and NVIDIA, I don't care won't change my mind. But to all those having problems... I hope my settings and specs help you, at least a little bit.

I run two accounts on the same machine at home, both in Windowed mode, each on its own 19" LCD. There is a significant FPS loss, but not to the point that I can't run Level 4 Missions with both accounts.
I can only run one with sound due to the Eve client conflicting with itself. This seems to be only with the Audigy Sound systems.
The Eve Client seems to be well written. I say this because the problems since RMR have been fixed by Server Side restart and hotfixes. RMR installed flawlessly and does glitch my system.
I would, however, gladly consider any advice anyone might have for increasing my FPS with the exception of turning the sound off. This is NOT Negotiable. =)
The sounds really help make the game what it is.
I applaud CCP on this new Patch and all it has to offer, even though the restarts and lag can be aggravating.
Sincerely, Slartibartfast "My name is not important."

There is only one thing you haven't listed - the quickest way to triple your framerate and stabalize multiple client issues. It's a fix I absolutely hate because it completely ruins the immersiveness of the game.
Turn off your sound. CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-F12
Crative Labs cards are especially notorious for instability issues with Eve.
With sound on I can't run 2 clients with any expectation of stability... and the sound produced is full of pops clicks chirps and other very painful anomolies.
With sound off I can run 3 clients without a problem and up to 7 with some lag and monstrous degrees of HD thrashing.

Edited by: Taerenius on 21/12/2005 18:17:06 All this Creative labs instability stuff sounds odd to me.
I've been playing for about a month now, and have never ever had a crash to desktop, or any sort of crash in general, and I've only been disconnected from the server once.
I run an Nvidia GF6600GT video card and Creative Labs Audigy 2 sound card. Both of these cards are claimed to "suck" or be "unstable" by people here, but I've never had a single problem. I also run the game at 1280x1024 in true color, with all graphics options turned on and up, and sound turned on, and I get no lag or slowdown either.
Forgot to add, I'm using an AMD Athlon 2600+ processor as well. So 3 things people are claiming to be unstable that I have 0 problems with. Sounds to me like a lot of people here are having communication errors between their chair and their keyboard
As others said, update your video card and sound card drivers to the latest releases, update your motherboard chipset drivers to the latest revision, and if that doesn't work update your BIOS firmware to the latest release. Also be sure to keep your windows OS updated.
Last, but not least, close out all your other programs that are running when you play Eve. Especially things like itunes, download managers, printer background processes, etc.

I just turn off sound because it bothers the hell out of me.
But yeah, 2 6600GT's in SLI, 3200+ AMD, I get no fething problems.
I think the real question is how much RAM the individuals posting have. Honestly, I would think that would be the largest deciding factor. I have a gig of Mushkin at 2-2-2-5, for instance.

yeah, to me to :)
I run 2 Eve Accounts @ 1280 windowed, dual-screening on a:
AMD Athlon XP 1600+ (yeah, AMD! why not. i'm fine with it... :D) MSI K7 Board 1024 MB Kingston ATI Radeon 9500pro @ 9700 CL Soundblaster Audigy 1 Player @ Audigy 2 ZS Driver (+ Teufel Concept E Magnum, cause 5.1 is soooo much fun :D) 2*60gb seagate HDD @ Raid 5
Everything on latest Driver/Firmware Version And it runs, and runs, and runs.... The Sound has no Problems (Ok. only enabled @ mainchar, cause both turned on sounds a little bit out-of-the-trashcan ^^, when doing two totally different things), no *clicks* or something in that way. Never had some Crash to desktop, and my FPS are still somehwere ~35-45 when both accs are open and involved in heavy fighting. (And i'm running an Apache Server, Winamp @ Stream, FTP-Server & Trillian on it to) Never had Problems before RMR and not yet encoutered some after the Patch.
I Think most of all the Problems come a) from bad Hardware Combinations ( Gfx-Card "A" kills Soundcard "B", while RAM "C" sits on Mainboard "D", laughes about CPU "E", that just got screwed up by NIC "F", you know? :D) or b) People like to tell everyone, they have the latest update and stuff, but when it comes down to Firmware/Bios they don't know, what you're talking about (no flaming against anyone, but i realized that after many many RL Conversations i had with friends)
So, just my 2iskies

P4 2.8 (prescott HT) 2x 1gb 400mhz dual channel DDR PNY nVIDIA ti4200 128mb w/ agp 8
For starters, my video card rocks! This is an under-rated gfx card that has outperformed all expectations. *sure, it's no longer supported by some games but that's np.
EVE pre RMR ran incredibly SMOOTH !! I would get very little lag/stutter and it was almost unnoticable.
Now post RMR I watch the RAM usage climb way above 1gb and once it hits 500mb us when the occasional stuttering and hang ups began.
It can get to the point where every so often with regauly intervals the client will hang for 2-3 seconds. A reboot always fixes this until the ram usage climbs back up.
Ok, I'm sure someone is going to pipe in and say "the problem is ur RAM!!" although it's been tested and is fine.
I deactivate ALL operations not nesc to be running while playing EVE. Less then 600mb of EVE ram consumed equals a fps around 35-45. When it hits above 800mb it drops signifigantly and requires a restart of the client to be stabalized.

The problem isn't your ram, but the problem involves ram. There is a known memory leak that will start to eat ram after 45 min or so I've heard. Your computer runs out, then switches to virtual memory. Thus the drop in performance. They are working on this issue since it is such a major one.

Sounds like either a memory problem or some sort of goofy thing with the 5700 ultra.

Edited by: Natasha Cos on 22/12/2005 10:35:49 I run the game on an NVidia 5700 Ultra card as well. I noticed that the game performance took a small step back for me as well. But I have no suchs thing as freezes. All i really noticed is that going into cloak when jumping a gate no longer goes smooth from visible to invisible. I run the game with max visual effects at 1280x1024. So I think that rules out the card as a problem.
Oh and people. No offense: I am no expert. But I think if you want the developers to take this thread seriously and handle it as an serious issue. I think you should stay on topic and dont ge screaming omg this is terrible, why the hell are you not helping us. But thats just my humble opinion.

Fair comment. But at the same time, in order for them to help us, there's got to be a common problem for them to help us with. Something that's inherently wrong with their software, rather than with our individual setups. It's got to be pretty difficult for any company to make sure that a piece of software works perfectly on every kind of PC out there.
As you say, we've got people squealing about lag, lockups, unreadable fonts and so on, omg omg roll it back and never try to give us a free upgrade ever again you irresponsible bas... Ahem. But I run two accounts on nVidia cards, and have no major problems at all - nice, clear fonts, pretty stable, acceptable frame rates. So try as they might, CCP are going to have their work cut out solving my EVE problems.

FYI - I run an AMD 2000+ ( Slooow ) and have a GeForce 6600. On that I use 768 mb of DDR 166 ram (YES) and also I only have the internal soundcard.
As long as I don't have MSN, IRC, Azureus, ICQ and a few browser windows open, at the same time, I never drop below 20fps.
EvE is totally and utterly playable, just keep your puter tidy and stop thinking it can handle resolutions that not even a microscope would like

I admit, i was not happy the first 2 days of the deployment RMR, but now, im pleased.
There might be problems with mem leaks and client's but i see none of them, game runs great for me, at the moment im happy with the RMR patch, just a bit disapointed with a few bugs, but thats nothing, i can still play the game.
somtimes i just think all this hype has a snowball effect...
I seriously have no probs with lag anymore, or any kind of perfomance issue.

They are working on it ? That's the best news. Can anyone please post a link here to the dev thread discussing how they are working on it / providing updates ?
For me P4 3.8GHz HT , 1Gb dual channel RAM, 800FSB, ATI X700 pro, 2x250Gb HDD, and i can only run 2 clients for a limited time and 3 is a no-no (<2fps).
Reading threads elsewhere related to dual core AMDs, has anyone tried to set affinity to CPU0 or CPU1 to see how it runs ? I did this to all 3 clients (as one thread suggested) and it made little difference. Instead of both CPU's maxing out at 100% usage, CPU0 maxxed out at 50% and fps stayed the same.
OK so, 2 daft questions (from someone who obviously knows not a lot about puters ) :-
1. With three clients, if i set affinity to CPU0 for my main account and tie the other 2 clients to CPU1, will my 570HT go into melt down ? Has anyone already tried this ?
2. Still within windows task manager, is there any point / danger / likelihood of success changing the priority settings for the eve clients above normal ? Will that bork the operating system ?
Any comments welcome.

I have the same exact problem
at first I had 2fps, because I ran the game on a X2 3800+, setting affinity solves this problem.
now my fps is good, but every 10 seconds my game freezes for 2 secs...
no idea how to fix it.
I know it is not my hardware, so I'm hoping for a fix soon...

Had the freeze problem after the exodus patch. (while I did not have it before ) More people had this problem and one of them made a fix-file you had to run before starting EVE. Problem solved.
This sounds like the same problem to me. Not that it solves the problem right here and right now... but not worth whining and screaming HEAR YE HEAR YE I'M GONNA QUIT EVE BECAUSE OF THIS!!! (cos nobody gives a damn if you wanna quit, EVE has enough whiners already.) If more people have this problem someone will find an answer to it. There's just something not compatible with EVE on your system. could be windows or a driver or something else.
I must admit that I haven't tried RMR yet.

They fix the client when they find the problems... not until and they don't have to give you round the minute news flashes on their problem solving. Put the game down for a few days and take a chill pill if you PC is rejecting the new Client. I have no problems. And if you make a post about problems... post your system specs or you won't be missed when you quit.

Edited by: Rowgue on 22/12/2005 23:11:06 Edited by: Rowgue on 22/12/2005 23:10:25 Nvidia cards don't suck (the 5700 may but not in general). Nvidia cards actually outdo ATI performance wise for cards of the same level.
Nvidia cards stress performace over quality, and ATI stresses quality over performace. It's just a matter of what you prefer and how good all your other components are.
If you have to have the absolute best quality and your computer is beefy enough to make up for a little performance from the vid card then ATI is the way to go. If your comp is not Uber but still good, or you are just the kind of person that can sacrifice a little of the shiny graphics for better performance then Nvidia is probably your best bet.

You've summed up my opinion well... i view intel and amd the same way... intel = quality, amd = performance (speed)
I have always wanted quality over quantity/speed.
Honestly I think allot of these issues people are having can be corrected with an updated of the computers BIOS, a complete format reload of the operating system (no system restore crap)... and get the latest, well maybe not latest - a release or two previous to latest drivers...
I reformat my machine at least once a year... if not once every nine months or so... Clean out the dust... reseat everything... and check up on the fans, etc regularly... your computer is you baby... treat it nice and it won't vomit all over your fav shirt

You know what fixed alot of sound blaster live issues... Compaq drivers. They completely rewrote them and fixed a good deal of issues. (Still have a friend that uses one too)
So, take a peak and see if you can find the compaq version if you feel like experimenting. Since Compaq and HP merged, I don't see a lot of this trend, but it's worth a shot.

I haven't tweaked anything yet, however the game is getting better day by day. Just don't log in after 21:00 GMT.

"nobody cares if you quit " say someone in this thread... well I don;t share your opinion... this thread was for devs... to know that there are serios issues with the client... until 2 day where no words from them... like all was perfect and only the server has problems. What I wanting was some feedback from them. For all who say that the games works well I wish all the best and happy gaming.... and i also hope to not have problems like some of us had. But this is not a proof that we all ,with memory leaks and freezing stuff , have broken computers... Probably only if you encounter this problems you will understand how frustrating is to play at 10 fps and no one to care about.

Has CCP admitted to the memory leak yet ? Kinda scarey it seems they are hiding from it.

I think we can take it as read that they know there're problems. And since most new threads are just reiterating the same complaints, I'd personally rather the devs were busier working on the problems than reading the forums. Quote: until 2 day where no words from them... like all was perfect and only the server has problems. What I wanting was some feedback from them.
There's been plenty of feedback. If your complaint is that they haven't said "we will have everything fixed by Christmas Day, lunchtime GMT" then you're expecting too much. Faults take time to fix in anything and it's not aways possible to give a time. Quote: Probably only if you encounter this problems you will understand how frustrating is to play at 10 fps and no one to care about.
I wouldn't be playing at 10fps. I'd switch off, go do something else, and try again later.

It's OK to submit your frustration, but it's the way the frustration is submitted. Besides: If you read my reply well: I had freeze problems too (2s freeze every 10-15s after Exodus, never before.) and if you look at my system stats: well... framerate not very high i can assure you. So, yes, I know your problem frustrates you. What I meant was: Don't go screaming you will quit because of this problem. Nothing more, nothing less, no offence to you.

Edited by: Sith Princess on 23/12/2005 14:20:14 I am running two accounts on 2 computers.
One is a desktop and one is a laptop.
Before RMR the laptop had lowest FPS, but now i have to play my pvp character on that one because the fps has dropped by half on the desktop...no hardware or driver changes are done. I tried everything thats listed on the forums.
This is definatly a server-sided issue, and a resonse from CCP would be nice....

So, we get a response but not in a thread that we can reply to / interact with the devs - oh well :-
"Since the release of Red Moon Rising, we have deployed 11 hotfixes in downtimes addressing 28 various performance and crash issues on Tranquility. In addition to that, a small client patch is being assembled for deployment in the first week of January. Until then ... "
I am hoping this is the start of an attempt to fix the leaks .
I know they do not want to go making rash predictions, so for now I will be content with the assumption (by me) that this rather cryptic statement in the last news item is about tackiling the client issues in this and many similar threads.

Ive been having this problem too, but only after about an hour online. Then it starts pausing every 15 secs and accessing the harddrive. It runs fine until then. If I restart the client then it runs fine again. My machine is brand new. Its weird like the client gets screwed up after playing for a little while.

You see, this is what gets me. It's not the fact that people are cheesed off because of the problems. I've had problems too, and yes, they're very annoying indeed. I'm not trying to pretend that nothing's wrong, or that the problems don't detract from gameplay. I'm just trying to be reasonable.
No, what I can't understand is why people seem so unwilling to give even the tiniest amount of credit where it's due. Like here: the quote says "Since the release of Red Moon Rising, we have deployed 11 hotfixes". The poster comments "I am hoping this is the start of an attempt to fix the leaks". "The start" implies that until now, CCP have been sitting around on their ar... elbows (thank you, Baldrick) doing nothing about the problems, whereas the quote clearly says that that's not the case. They may not have solved the problems, but can we not at least acknowledge that they have been working on them?
As far as 'rather cryptic statements' go, well, I'm no programming wizard. There may be those players out there who can comprehend all the technical guff about servers, routers, memory leaks, this that and the other cobblers, but as far as I'm concerned, "we know there's something wrong and we're trying to fix it" is quite good enough.

I start this thread after one week from RMR when no client side patch was announced and no other word from the devs about the problems we have ... I hope they will fix them... I tell that I will stay 2 more weeks... So.. Happy New Year and hope for the best.

NttNeeda, I was having a very similar problem; lags followed by crashes, crash, crash. I changed my firewall settings two days ago and I haven't had any crashes or lags. On my firewall settings I removed the application rule for eve.exe. When I ran eve again I allowed eve to go online again. Let me know if this works for you. |

My problem is not related with lag.... is related with the performance of the client... but after I download and install the full client (was patched before) the things started to go well... i still have some frezes but now the game is playable :)

Originally by: Ittey The problem isn't your ram, but the problem involves ram. There is a known memory leak that will start to eat ram after 45 min or so I've heard. Your computer runs out, then switches to virtual memory. Thus the drop in performance. They are working on this issue since it is such a major one.
Where did you find this information Ittey?
This may explain the severity of the "lag" issues I've been having.
