Ah the fun of space travel in EvE has once again made its ugly face known to me on a long travel. It reminds me of what it is like to travel through the central United States where you see nothing but flat farm fields for thousands of miles.
It is bad enough that you can not always equip MWDs for far off destinations, but now you have to start from a **** poor speed and accelerate to decent speed. This of coarse further increases the pleasure of travel times through the big black nothing.
I don't f*cking get this. Do you ppl at CCP not understand that gamers don't want to spend all their time doing NOTHING in game? How many bad reviews is it going to take to make you all wake up and speed up space travel?
I bet you would also see a lot more action in different regions since it would not take a life time to get their also.
So how about stopping the insanity and making warp speed like 3x what they are now - or even faster. Adjust trade route earnings to compensate for the decreased travel time also.

ive played games where travel was alot faster and honestly i think its bad for the game
now dont get me wrong i hate traveling my self but i like that it takes a hellof a long time for other people to get "here" if travle was faster eve gets smaller ..the highways that got put in really shrunk eve down i hope they get blown up someday

Maybe you can be happy sitting in front of a computer radiating your face for HOURS doing nothing but warping, but I do not. So go back to your **** sites you probably jack off to while travelling. I do not find it as a viable option for reducing the pain of long travel times personally.

You can sit there watching the screen whizz past or you could sit there just watching a loading bar fill the screen.
Either way it's the same thing. oO
If you're that worried about "wasting time" then run EVE in a window as you do something else, something more productive.

Downtime is killer in these types of games. Anything that adds to it is bad (MWD/AB nerf).
I suggest CCP give ships "Advanced" computers that we can access to manage our market activities and other time consuming tasks. If I could adjust prices on my goods (without have to have it drop in my bloody inventory) and so forth, it'd take the sting out of travel time.
I agree that warp times should be 5x faster then they are currently.

maybe jumpdrives will fix it.... i frequent the "empire space to stain" trip and it is one hour each way. some people cant even PLAY for an hour a day.

Easy, there could be a skill and module added to the game (unless they are planning to already) to increase the speed of the ship during warp. SO intead of 2au you can increase the speed according to skill and device much higher.

"Nitpick" is one, though.
Anyway, A skill/module which increases your warp speed would be very nice. But I'm afraid that that won't help much here - travelling is boring nad will keep so. When you drive in RL from a to b you don't have the time of your life either.
So - just check that your route isn't going though blockaded system, activate the autopilot and do something exept playing eve for a little time.

Currently the autopilot still sucks the phat phiper and you will most likely come back 1 hour later and notice that you got stuck at the gate 3 jumps after you left the screen. á

I find the ammount of ignorance amoungst posters on this forum to be staggering sometimes.
Anyway back to the point. Think about it in game terms - fast travel times would ruin whole portions of the game. Your obviously a little dim to grasp the problems involved - As shown by your ridiculous reply.
Think about trade, politics, events, war and try and picture these things in a universe you can cross in the blink of an eye. Think about how long it takes to travel between stars at the speed of light and realise how fast travel in eve actually is in terms of space.
Actually just try and think , i realise it may be a strain and im sure you`ll come back with some blinding retort that actually addresses none of the issues. But we can hope cant we.

"maybe jumpdrives will fix it...."
Right now that is my only hope. Travel times is about the only thing I don't like in this game.
But it will probably have some over-done penalty attached to using them such as with the MWDs.
Still puzzled as to why ppl find long boring travel time acceptable at all. Ah I get it - cause they the ones that hardly travel frequently.
Get real. Some ppl need to get thicker skins on these forums also and take off the girly panties.

Heh when I'm heading home after doing a delivery I sometimes almost pray to get killed and podded - at least I get there without all the tedium. Yes I know I could self destruct and pod myself and to be quite honest this is something I'm giving serious thought to. OK so it'd cost me for a new clone (I have 2.2 mill skill points), but I think it'd be worthwhile.
Hell going through any of the highway systems is a gamble now - "autopilot jumping...", "autopilot jumping...", "autopilot jumping...". Oh dear - petition time (again).
Might as well pod yourself for the return journey most of the time...

Litlle late to do now but I think the game might have been better served if the universe had been much smaller with a each solar system having been much larger. Of course the server would have had to be up to the challenge and from the looks of things this server isn't even up to the current configuration. When you think of EVE in comparison with EQ, which indeed can be pretty laggy at times, it amazes me that there can be this much lag in EVE. Many more folks per zone in EQ, with animated humanoid toons with even breathing animations for gods sake. Everyone dressed differently and all types of textures to deal with, not to mention the NPC's and all the spell casting. In EVE we have a static background, pretty much the same in every zone (pick your color), with a handful of different ships. Why is EVE so damn laggy? I could understand some lag during combat but geez there is lag when you are alone in a zone.

There you go.
I'm not even going to open a serious debate on this but I'd hope that someone at CCP has finally worked out that it can't deal with all the active items in-game in the time frame the engine expects?
Not a lot they can do now except throw h/w at it. Which will work for a very short time. Either that or do some serious recoding to minimise hits on the db - which may explain quite a lot now I come to think of it.

I expect that in roughly 8.000 (yes, eight thousand) years space ships should be faster than that a space shuttle is nowadays, because 2 Km/s is a joke (thats a really nice top speed you know what a mean).
IMO, the only way to fix this is to make warp faster (at least 4x), dropping from warp far away but making ships go faster by default (along with better % boosts from ABs and MWDs).
IT's not an easy tune, but can be done. Tweaking *only* the speed will brake more than fixing.

and I just forgot:
I think CCP should implement some kind of locking, to make it impossible to players to fit more than 1 AB or MWD. It would be REALLY nice regarding to balance. If you can't fit more than 1 MWD, it would be a completely whole new ball game. MWDs could be unerfed too. _______________________________________________

Instead of speeding warping up, I'd like to see more stuff happening wherever you go, and for systems to actually be different from each other, but that aint gonna happen :( ----------------------------- You think Marco Polo said "Damn Mongolians were camping that cave entry into the next valley the entire day, you can't get friggin anywhere in the world with those damn griefer tribes all over the place" ? -Indigo Seqi

We are not traveling at 2 KM/s, its 2 AU/s or approx 300 mill KM/s. I think that is a bit faster than the space shuttle.
The speed of light is approx 300,000 KM/s. We are traveling in warp the equivelent of 100x the speed of light. I think this goes to so you how big Eve is.
Maybe jumps engines in the future will allow short cuts to become reality allow ing you to take a more direct route.

Edited by: Tim Maser on 18/08/2003 08:34:27 Edited by: Tim Maser on 18/08/2003 08:32:02 Maybe they can makes some super-gates that take a more direct route to another section of space. Maybe just 4-6 of them in the entire universe.
With there only being a small amount of them, it could still take plenty of jumps to get to one and then it might even over jump your destination, but still shorter than without the supergate. ALso, once you get to one s-gate, it has access to the two closest ones, possible making a giant ring around the universe.
Also, put a fee on it to use. Then you would ask, would autopilot pay this for you? Maybe you can buy a prepaid card
I've only played a couple days, so my longest trip through space was two gates, so I have no idea how big the universe is yet and how long some travels can be.
Or even a kind of external attaching super drive. Something you'd buy that can make one incredible jump, and then detaches (like the rockets lifting the space shuttle in space). Of course this could be very expensive, so the extra cost of making a trade route faster will make the profit much less than if taken the trip normally. Epsecially purchasing one for the way back, and it might be more expensive there than before.
Also even more simpler would be some add-ons to the ship, kind of acting like a supercharger or nitrous. They would speed up jumps, but they'd only be good for so many, and would put more stress on other parts. Whoops, I'm starting to cross over the lines into Motor City Online.
