I'm not sure but it seems at random times during game play my computer just restarts, I belive its the video card but I'm not sure. I use the ATI Radeon X300 card and if there is a problem with EVE and the ATI cards does anyone know of a way I could fix it, or a older driver that will work. I know that I used to have EVE on 2 computers one had an older ATI card and there was no trouble except for the fact everyone was bald, but other then that I had no problems with it. The older card was a ATI Radeon 9000 Pro If I remember right and the one on the other computer was a ATI Radeon 9600. Now I'm not sure if that means anything but I just thought I would put that in to see if it helps. |

I also have this conflict with my ATI cards. With my X800 and running two windows of EVE my computer will randomly reboot. On my other comp with an ATI chip it does the same thing, but only requires one instance of EVE to do so.

Edited by: Decius Aurellius on 22/12/2005 04:01:12 It is the same with me. The game works on my old 9600, but has completely incapacitated my new computer with the X850 XTPE. EVE seems fairly incompatible with new cards, and I'm not sure it's just a Radeon problem.
EDIT: We need to make sure CCP knows about this.

I've Talked with others about this problem but we were unable to find a way to fix it, another person who used the 9600 had the same problem with it and we couldnt figure out anything else, just that ATI dont seem to work well with EVE. I've had the same problems with other MMOs but never any other type of game, so I'm thinking that most MMOs just tend to use more Nvida cards rather then ATI but again I'm not sure.PS sorry about that other post hit the wrong thing.

Yeah, my cards have problems with City of Villains too, but it hasn't ruined my system. This really really needs to be fixed.

Have an ATI 9600 running on amd 64, had before a 9800 pro but the ventilator broke and the card overheated.
Both cards have really critically strange reactions. It crashes everyting and I have to reset my comp. This is not really a good thing for sofware and hardware.
Have the latest package from ATI and did no good to the situation.
I am just thinking in buying an NVIDIA card of the last generation that just came out on the market. |

Yeah, I guess if you're REALLY into MMOs, then it'd be better to get a NVIDIA, because it seems that several of them are designed to be incompatible with Radeons. Like I said, they really, really need to fix this problem. Have they even addressed it? Acknowledged it?

I'd advise not to switch to NVIDIA cose i'm using Ti4200 at the moment. You won't believe how many times i had too reboot my PC cose eve freezes everything. I have never had problems with reboots in cold war

You mean you unchecked sound in the EVE settings? Or disabled your sound card...?

My Nvidia 6600GT and EvE don't like each other either now. Before I had issues with closing Eve if I had WMP running, so I just didn't run it. My game has crashed and the computer rebooted twice in 2 days since the patch. Both when stuff was shooting at me. Haven't lost anything yet, thank god, but its making me crazy.

Y'know, most games don't ruin your system just by being installed. I really would like a dev comment on this sometime. I mean, it IS a game-stopping bug. I bet if EVE worked on more computers, they'd get more customers..

My system uses a Radeon X800 XT, and my parent's machine uses a Radeon X600, and both seem to work OK with RMR.
The only time I can make my X800 crash is by running 3 eve clients in a windowed mode - guaranteed crash before 30 minutes has expired. (ATI doesn't handle fail cases nicely - card goes 'eek', system reboots).

I have good experience with the Omega drivers for ATI cards. Using a 9600 Pro I have not yet had any crashes. I have noticed tho that the graphics starts to stutter after a while - the longer I play the worse it gets. Logging out and back in usually helps.

In the past I played Eve on a 9700 Pro and a 9000 Pro. Recently I have played on an X700, 9600 Pro and X1800XL, none have had a single issue. In fact the X1800XL looks AMAZING at 1280x1024 with full AA and AF.

That's probably a memory leak, and not really related. My 9600 never crashes, but I still would really like to be able to play EVE on my new computer...

Running 2 Eve clients on single p4 with Cat 5.12 on x800pro AGP with no problems.
Try turning off vpu recover, it has always caused more problems than its fixed for me.
Getting X1600XT for xmas so hopefully things will look even better, just hope the devs discover HDR soon :)

Edited by: MoonStorm on 24/12/2005 22:14:21 It's not from the video card or sound or whatever... I tried every trick and the client still crashes. I updated. I burn-tested everything. Come on... Let's face it. CCP just needs to test more and fix the bugs. Period. Whenever I take a mission (which usually involves "playing" with some NPCs), my client crashes). In any other situation I just "lag" behind (no crashes though).

Hmm...
There does seem to be an issue with ATi cards post-RMR.
Pre i had a 9800SE AIW softmodded to Pro. Using it in my main box for a year and had had the white screen problems others have had, especially when running 2 accounts. I nabbed a 6800GT and put the card in my Shuttle.
Its a well cooled card with a VGA Silencer slapped on it.
RMR comes and i boot up, start playing on the shuttle with the 2 accounts...boom, screen keeps going black, system unresponsive. I drop the o/c a little on the CPU and try again, boom. I drop to one account on the Shuttle, works ok for a few days then boom again. Eventually the system stopped booting at all with this card and i had to switch back to a 9700.
Even now, with one account, i get completely random black screens requiring the reset button. I've gone whole days without problems with it. Gfx drivers were the first thing I updated.

Well this is odd.up untill 3 days ago I was running this system: x850xt-pe AGP 250 meg ,on an MSI MB with 2 gig ram and AMDath64 3500+ with latest catalyst driver pack. Only time I crashed(unless it was the server for eve)was when I OC'd the card. Now I'm running x1800xt PCI-E 512meg on an Abit MB with 2 gigs dual channeled ram and P4 3ghz socket 775 ,catalyst from the box. Last night I ran the new system on EVE ,full OC on the vid card with all settings on card and game maxed, and OC'd the cpu to 3.3ghz ,rez set at 1600x1200 and was smooth as silk and rock stable.Played for 3 hrs on those settings no probs at all.
I would try starting at the latest driver set and work back 1 at a time to see if that would help.the latest driver set dont always work best for the ATI card you have. Also make sure you completely romove any ATI driver set off yer comp before installing a new set.

I have been having the same problem since RMR. I have an ATI 9600 w/256ram, P4b 2.4 GHz, 1gig ram, XP. I have been using this PC setup for quite some time now without a problem. I have lowered all video settings, i have installed latest cat drivers, I don't over clock my cpu, all effects in eve are off and my PC still randomly restarts.
Usually restarts during battle but it did happen once in warp. I have lost a few drones now, just waiting for my domi to be gone when I login after eve restarts my PC!!
By reading the other posts I would have to say this is a RMR patch issue. CCP has a patch due first week in January hopefully this helps us all. If not I might have to quit eve as this is not healthy for my PC!!!
PS I tried to petition this but I could figure out how to attach the requested DXdiag file. Does anyone know how to attach a file when petitioning in game? CCP needs to know about this as there are a lot of players experiencing this and can cause serious damage to our computers.

Edited by: Niplan on 28/12/2005 21:59:11 have you guys checked your power supply? thease ALL seem like problems people have when running on to low power for their cards to support. im running a 550 watt with an ati radeon x850xt 256 and not one problem to date. or you could be overheating somewhere and reaching critical temprature and the computer is rebooting its self.
P.S if this was a ccp issue, your game client would crash, not your whole computer rebooting.

No. It has to do with EVE, not a problem with the power supply.
My GPU stays around 30 degrees F, with 3rd party cooling, and my cpu is only a few degrees higher. It's not a overheating problem either. Unfortunately, even after I uninstalled EVE, my computer continues to crash. It seems the only way to fix the problem is to wipe your drives and reinstall Windows.

I use a Radeon 9700 Pro and found using the older drivers much better.
The Catalyst 3.6 drivers seem to be the best both for Eve and AO. Later drivers seem to work well for a few days but then start to cause random crashes or screen blackouts, though only for online games oddly.
