I lost my BlackBird the other night, what a shame - many tech II ECMs and a tech II cloaking device was lost. Oh well, live and learn I guess. My question now is whether I should go with the BlackBird again or shoulkd I upgrade to a Ferox. I like it that the Ferox has 7 high power points, and the fact that I can outfit it with 5 heavy missle launchers. The problem is I use mostly missles for combat, and the Ferox has rail and warfare link module bonuses, which are of no use to me. However the description for the Ferox states that it has excellent EW capability.
What about any of the ships added to the caldari in RMR, or what a bout a faction ship called the Rook, a souped a blackbird, if I can find one of course.
Thank you,
Juri

For fleet support or gang situations, i'd say that the Scorpion is still the king of EW.
If you are a solo EW player, i'd say the Rook might be your new best friend (although the Scorp is still more cost-effective).
If you are a solo stealth/EW player, then the Falcon would be your boat.

What race is the falcon, and what type of ship is it? So I can find it in the database.
I like the Scorpion however I perfer smaller cruiser sized ships. I am considering it though.
Thanx in advance!

Ferox has 5 mid slots while the much cheaper Blackbird has 6. If you really want to do EW stick with the BB until you can afford a Scorpion or a Rook (haha yeah right). Ferox is fine decked out with heavy missiles though, most people PvE with that setup.

I know that a Rook is a faction ship so it is probably very hard to find. I do have the cash though!!!!

The rook and falcon aren't faction ships mate, they are t2 cruisers, in the recon ship class. They won't be all that hard to find in a while, much like HACs, once integrated they will be extremely overpriced, but well worth it.

You can tell a ship by their name. Amarr and Minmatar ships usually have names involving real life things, normally bad things. The Minmatar seem focused to natural disasters and wild animals, while the Amarr is focused around negative things in general. Some examples are 'Apocolypse' 'Typhoon' 'Cyclone' 'Punisher' 'Wolf' 'Jaguar' 'Malediction' 'Armaggedon' etc. Caldari ships are almost always named after some sort of bird, hence 'Raven' 'Blackbird' 'Moa' 'Heron', although 'Kestrel' 'Scorpion' 'Merlin' and the like have not much to do with birds I don't think. Gallente ships normally have some sort of made-up name or some random odd word . 'Megathron' 'Dominix' 'Thorax' 'Enyo' 'Ishkur' etc. I can see the name of a ship and almost instantly classify it into one of the 4 races.
Clearly the Falcon is Caldari, and I am assuming it is a Spec Op ship, since he was referring to stealth when giving you advice on what ship to fly.

Thanx for the reply.... the rook looks like a fabulous ship. I like the fact that it has kinetic missle bonuses and ECM strength bonuses. Exactly what I was looking for! Now I am on a business trip and will not be able to play EVE till the weekend, what is the deal with these tech II ships, is CCP putting them on the market or are wie all waiting for players with the bps to start building them?

Ahem, Kestrel and Merlin are both smaller birds of prey.

I'd stick to blackbird for pure ECM but Ferox is a more 'solo' EWar shio (it has the ability to armourtank if needed and can do half-decent damage

Well if you wanna be interesting and you are in small groups hunting in pvp i suggest a dominix.
Many pilots are scared of scorps, well i believe that 1 on 1 they can beat anything eventually, so i found that many pilots fled at the sight of me. Of course at first this felt gr8 but then as my kill count failed to grow i became disppointed.
You will need high EW skills to use the domi due to it's lack of bonuses. Obviously you cannot jam as many, but in small groups this stops the running away. You can jam enough to render the enemy useless while they still thin k they have a chance. Same against certain battleships 1 on 1. The ones (raven) (scorp) with higher sensor strength jam for less cycles, Hence many pilots refuse to run as they can still fire sometimes giving you time to scramble them.
Also the domi, while being able to do this, can also armor tank pretty damn well for a tier 1 battleship.
I am not sure about the new EW drones, i have not used them and don't know if they are worth it atm.
My setup is as follows:
Hi: 6 dual 250 rails (must be named)
Mids: 4 hypnos multspectrum ECM jammers Warp disrupter or scrambler
Lows: 3 t2 medium armour repairers 3 harderners and a t2 damage mod or 4 damage mods if you are feeling confident
Drones. These are of course your preference and are based around your enemy as it is your only choice of damage type in gallente ships.

Scorpion is the best EW ship. 8 mids, decent CPU/grid and a bonus to jammer strength. Oh, and fairly cost effective to replace as a tier 1 battleship.
The 'new' best EW ships are looking like being the Rook and the Falcon. Their tech 2, so won't insure so well. The rook gets 10% bonus to jammer strength, and 7 midslots (scorpion has 8, but rook has better sensor resolution). The falcon gets 5% jammer strength, but can use a covert ops cloaking device.
I'm really keen to get hold of one. (Or a BPO for one, that'd be nice too).
Other than that, have you considered an EW caracal, or Badger? Caracals have 5 mids these days, and have a fairly good amount of firepower. No bonuses (but then, neither does the BB to 'power'), but a bit more flexibility.
Badger MKII is also suprisingly good as an EW ship. You'll need to sacrifice a midslot for a sensorbooster, and maybe a high for an auto targeting system (+2 targets), but very few people expect to get pwnded by a badger, and even if it's only successful in a small percentage, it's just glorious humiliation. -- Lyrus Associates is recruiting |

Not all Gallente ship names are made up, Enyo was a Greek goddess of war, commonly associated with Ares, Ishkur a Sumerian god of storms, a Thorax is a part of the body Taranis is a Celtic God of thunder and of course Ares is the Greek god of war. |

Just on a note, all Gallente ships are named after greek gods, or associated religions
