I'd like to describe what transpired on my first day playing this game and ask if this game's mechanics are "Working As Intended"; because to me, they certainly do not seem to be. I started off in Gallente Federation space and decided to start off by exploring the galaxy. I made my way south on the map and noticed I was entering lower and lower security status systems; bad elements surrounded me in increasing number. Most worrying was 1 particular pilot who had appeared in Local Spacechat for several systems on my trip.
Eventually I ended up at a Stargate that led to a "Low Security System", and I was hesitant to jump through it with this shifty-looking guy in local. I decided to turn the tables on him and see what he was up to, so I jumped to one of the other gates in system and did in fact see him slowly moving in his Space Capsule towards the gate. He jumped through, and I followed shortly after. It was another Low Security System but I owed it to all law-abiding pilots to tail this guy and see what the hell was going on. Once we got into system I maintained by post-jump Spacecloak by not moving my ship, and waited for him to make his move. He jumped off in a direction that only could have led to Planet IX of the system we were in, so I jumped in after him. I jumped at a distance of "100km off" the planet so that if he had 'homies' waiting there, I would have time to make my escape and go get help.
What I discovered upon warping in was that HE had jumped in at a distance of 100km as well; this guy was clever. He immediately started moving towards me, and I had no choice but to open fire while yelling "He's coming right for us!" in ingame voicechat to make it clear to the others in local that this was an act of self defense. I managed to destroy his pod and save my own life, but suffered several injuries in the firefight that I may or may not recover from. If you look at my portrait, you will see my broken swollen nose and a gash across it. I also banged my head on the back of my Captain's Chair, but you can't see that in my portrait (OOC: I performed a "Space Resculpt" after the battle for roleplay purposes).
I was frightened, but alive. I decided it was time to get out of that system and back to the safety of High Security Space; I jumped back through the stargate I had come through, but while regaining my composure my ship was destroyed by "CONCORD"!

Do EVE players have a right to defend themselves when they genuinely fear for their life? Or are they condemned to being persecuted by the government should they have the nerve to stand their ground(space) and fight back? |

If you have a GCC flag, then you will be seen by Concord as a valid target, best to go chill in a safe spot in low sec until the timer runs out (15 minutes). And yes you do have a right to do that, as in there is nothing stopping you from doing so, and more people should terminate suspicious looking pods they find at 100 from planets, Eve would be a safer place by far. GCC no longer exist. If you die to concord in highsec you die because of a criminal action you did in highsec not because of a timer you received somewhere else. eve style bounties (done) dust boarding parties imagine there is war and everybody cloaks - join FW |

Nope, he incurred the flag for podding someone in Empire space, lowsec is still Empire with or without Concord. Criminal flags are not applied in nullsec and WH space.
@ the OP, you podded someone in Empire space, you got a criminal flag for doing so and Concord acted upon it when you entered highsec. Working as intended.

Thank goodness you have such quick reflexes. If he had been able to launch his warp scrambling drones to pin you in place he could have easily destroyed your expensive ship with a well placed ram. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |
