So I'm just finishing uni and I'm playing eve a lot more but I'm sick and tired of having a pc that can't run eve on full graphics. Loads of people go on about how beautiful eve can be but I have no idea. I'm mainly a console gamer. Like literally the only game I play on pc is eve so I want to know if I were to build a comp what would be the best set up for eve to run on full graphics and no frame rate issues no matter what's on the screen? |

There are way to many options, there is no "perfect pc". One of the biggest things is what resolution monitor do you use?
Any modern dual or quad core cpu will be fine, with 4GB+ memory (8 would be more ideal). Any mid range graphics card will run eve at full settings, I use a GTX670 with 2 screens and 3 clients at full settings. I'd imagine a 760/660 GTX would be a good budget card to go for, but even this is probably overkill for a single client on a 1080p screen. |

Well,
That depends on what you mean by perfect and how much your willing to spend on a computer. To me perfect set ups are always created from scratch rather than bought from any particular brand. I would say 500-600 pounds is a good start. Below is an example of getting a PC that will play with full graphics with fair ease and wouldn't cost too much.
ASUS P8Z77-V LX - 100 pounds nVidia geForce GTX 660 - 150 pounds i5-3570K - 180 pounds 2 x 4GB RAM Corsair - 60 pounds
+ Screens, mouse, case and keyboard etc
The above should run two clients on full graphics without too much difficulty. If you want to invest in the future though I suggest you invest in a GTX 670 (or the 770 is amazing if your willing to spend 300 pounds).
I have spent a lot more on my PC, but then I am obsessive. "In the age of information, ignorance is a choice." |

The setup posted above (with the 3570K) would serve you fine for most tasks in Eve.
Since you say 'no matter what' is on the screen, however, it depends a little what you mean by that. If you are trying to get playable fps in a 1000-2000 man battle with brackets on, then the challenge becomes a little different.
Eve in that situation isn't able to make much use of multiple cores but the extra cache on chips like the 3970X Extreme Edition will help quite a lot (assuming it's also massively overclocked of course). If you were going that route, you'd want to wait for the 4960X release next month.
This is a brief video of one of Fountain's big battles recorded with both hud off and hud on (full brackets, drones, effects, everything with a few thousand in local). You probably need to set it to 1080p and then jump back to the beginning on the bar, since it's a rather short clip and there's too much movement on screen for 480p.
CPU is still more important than GPU in the big battles, so spend your extra money there. Of course, if you're playing at 2160p or so, you'll need SLI'd titans simply because no other card has enough video ram (I've seen it over 4gb usage at that res, per card).
Eve scales a lot depending what you're trying to get out of it, from the most humble laptop to the most extreme high end rig. For most people, though, the setup linked above (3570K/660) should do well. Rooks and Kings Youtube |

You don't need a really powerful set up to make Eve look pretty. I've always wonder what sort of system Chribba uses when he is playing with all his alts. |

Should probs add the caveat that I would want a system that could run graphics on full if CCP decided to go ahead with the optional hi res textus pack. Anyone know how that would affect the setup? |

I know 'HD' monitors with a resolution of 1920x1080 have pretty much taken over, but if you have the cash get one that's 1920x1200 or higher. |

GPU is the most important and I know there is a company in UK selling a Nvidia 770 for under -ú200. That requires a PCI 3.0 compatible motherboard and a power supply over 500W (SLI ready or Gold). 8 GB RAM and SSD and other gubbins finish that off - Monitor - large is best (27in) and you are ready to run all your 4 accounts at once. Easily I am aware of my own ignorance and have checked my emotional quotient - thanks for asking |

Talking about monitors my dad is keen on getting a touch screen. That sounds cool to me but has anyone got any exp using them with eve? Are they useless? |

Don't. Just don't. Never ever use a touchscreen monitor for a desktop. It's cool if you're a kid but I doubt you'll fully enjoy EVE if you got killed by a titan that was hidden under a cheetos stain on screen. |

Monitors are interesting as there is a continuing discussion about IPS v TN - IPS monitors have greater brilliance (good for the like of photoshop) but tend to have a slow response time. Since the 770 can take 4 monitors, I would go with 2x24inch. Which one? I go with the eyes. They are the thing that need to hold out for a few years so crappy monitors are disregarded. Why 2? you can have 2 accounts on one and 2 on the other - but ready for when you get accounts 5-10... I am aware of my own ignorance and have checked my emotional quotient - thanks for asking |

If you can afford it dual monitors its the way to go. I have a slightly larger main screen for fullscreen Eve, and a smaller one because alt tabbing sucks. From there you can control and monitor you voice comms, hardware, and websites. If you Pve you need related websites, and if you PvP you need intel sites. Eve is Real |

Yep - I thought like that until I found that I needed a "wingman" on at the same time to help me mine. So a second account was born. I think the only case in point that doesn't require a second account is the life of a pirate in no more than battleships. Anything carrier and above will require a cyno pilot to go to and that will require a second account. btw - I am now up to 4 accounts and I'm an industrialist. 2 mining ships, 1 orca and a freighter pilot - all helping me to build stuff. Just saying I am aware of my own ignorance and have checked my emotional quotient - thanks for asking |

What is Chribba's eve setup like? Maybe we could learn from that. See Bio for isk doubling rules. -áIf you didn't read bio, chances are you helped fund those who did. |
