Ok, I've been reading through here, and people are talking about setting up "insta jump waypoints/bookmarks". What are they, and what do they do?

well, instas are used to warp form belt to belt, without the *warp 15km away* deal...and having to wait forever...what you do is go 15km past the desired goal, and set a bookmark. when you get to the solar system, or whatever, warp 15km within bookmark, and it will bring you EXTREMELY close to the original goal....saves alot of traveling time lol

Also is good for mapping out stargates in low security systems. That way you don't have to travel 15km in the open where pirates can get ya.

Uh, ya!
I almost got blowed up again today, was doing a long warp to some crazy place to pick up something I got on the market for a damned good price.
Warped to the next gate on Auto in 0.3 and ran into a Rat with a 45,000 isk bounty. That should tell you that he wasn't exactly an easy Rat either. Well I'm in my Thrasher so I pelted him with my 6 Artillery Cannons and Missile Launcher but it didn't do any real damage, all the while he's starting to tear into my armor. I turned on the Armor Repairer and got to the gate as fast as possible, just as he was getting to my structure....
Close one!

That was just a little baby NPC cruiser. If a player pirate jumps you at a gate, you'll either be scrambled (can't warp) or sniped from 150km away. No destroyer without nanofibres and a MWD would survive that.
