WTF am I doing still lurking on the forums!!..Merry Xmas peeps ! :)
I own a Lancer Mitsubishi Ralliart (in canada we cant get the evo but its above what I can aford anyways) I drove lots of cars from the mazda 3 to the x5, mercedes, lexus... But in all honesty, I have so much fun driving my little Mitsu, the transmission is flawless. But you better be ready to gas very often (2.4l + small tank (55liters)...that means 370km per tank...in average
What do you drive?

Well, your probably right, though, I got arrested for doing 12 km/h over speed limit. wich you usually dont...on the highway.
And I didnt said my car I said "the" car. It wasnt mine, so he just asked for my friend to drive her car the rest of the way.
You can't insure a car without a license :) And towing it wouldn t have put "me" i trouble.. but her. So he didn't make a big deal out of it.

My friend bought the wolfsberg limited edition (1.8 t) last year.(2004)
Its a pretty solid car. Everything BUT the electronics. Since Canadian VW are now shipped from Mexico and quality went pretty much down. Everything that is electronic in it, just doesn't cut it.
But he just put a new cold air intake and a chip. now, I get pwned. Mine is still stock.

Well I am 20 and a grew up working on cars my whole life, normally i wouldn't undertake a project solo like this but seeing as it was my first car, which was bought by my gradn father ((who for all intensive purposes was my pops)) for me,the sentimental value is incompairable since he passed away a year ago,so thus if your going to do a homage to some one for said reasons why not pull out all stops.
Frankly one of my dream cars is a Nissan Skyline Vspec with a 6-speed, had the chance to drive one once, very nice car and is kinda my inspiration for the Monte. The people who think RMR is cool are coincidently the same people who paid to see Gili.

Hey, gl on pimpin your car.. :)
the skyline...you drove one from japan ? with the driver being on the right ? hehe I dont know how shifting with my left hand would feel like. You get used to it, but driving thoses here in canada just isn't safe since the road is "made" in the idea that the driver is on the "left" side hehe

not sure off the top of my head, the standard car is good for 148mph or so and this one has a fast road tune making it a bit better, even if it is as ugly as sin

considering your thinking about tuning it your lucky you have the wrx sti, they have a stronger engine block than the standard scooby, if you tune a normal one to more than 300 brake they end up like a grenade with the pin pulled

I know this is gunna come off rather condesending, I apologize, I don't mean to be insulting I just .. am at a loss. Why would you drop 60 grand into a car worth 500 bucks? I mean .. classic Camaro .. sure, maybe an old 'vette or soemthing. But a Monte Carlo?! Thats like dropping 60 grand on a Civic! Oh .. haha... people do drop 60 grand into Civics...
Right o' , carry on then.
Seriously though, why don't you save your money and find a nice Grand National or something? Fairly interesting parts choices you went with though. Custom headers .. on a turbo charged car? .. speaking of , mufflers on a turbo charged car? Why? I'm also curious if your planning on doing any suspension and brake work with this .. interesting configuration you've sorted out. Pounding the pavement with 1,000 ponies is fun and all but come on, a '70s car is heavy, and won't handle or brake to save your life. Handling well for a car built from about 69-86 pretty much means it probly won't flip over while you open the door for your girlfriend at the movies.
Seriously though, what're you building the car up for? Quarter mile? Road coarses? Peeling out in parking lots? Anyhoo, neat idea. Keep us posted.

I am planning on building a Super Car tbh and seeing as it weighs over 3500 pounds and is the size and weight of the majority of the current sedans made and I am putting on a Brembo brake system. And the car only has 43k TRUE miles and is the last of the original body style its blue book worth atm is 9500. So thank you for you concern but sentimental value is high as previously stated. Well actually they made 50 Copos with hurt shifters in 1970,40 were SS 454s and 6 had 402s and 4 had 350s. This is an EXTREMLY little known fact and is not very popularised since the Monte was more of a Luxo muscle car.
But since then the only other monte I knew of having a Hurst shifter was the 1976-1978 modle years. After 1972 to about 1996 the majority of American cars blew chunks and I know little of them, I do know that the cars of note in that time span were the Firebird SSD455,Buick GNX,'91 Camero IROC,The Gmc Typhoon,Gmc Cyclone,Corvette Zr-1 and 94-96 Chevy Impala SS The people who think RMR is cool are coincidently the same people who paid to see Gili.

Edited by: Asarah on 30/12/2005 17:54:27 Various motor vehicles I've owned (in chronological order):
1)'88 Honda Accord LX. Stripped it for fun, everything but the dash including the AC, got some cheap regrinds on the cams and did a half assed P&P myself. Overbored the Throttle body and shaved the rear doors. It was a fun little beater.
2) '90 Honda Accord LX. This one was my College car, and man did I beat the hell out of it, finally put it out of it's misery at 167k miles.
3) '92 Honda Prelude Si. One of the most fun cars I've owned. I tinkered and toyed with this one for a long time and only just recently sold it. WEB regrinds, P&P, 4 angle valve job, JESRP High compression forged pistons and rods, high compression gaskets, overbored TB, High Flow stainless headers, CAI, punched the cat, and 'swiss cheesed' the body pannel frames when they were off for painting.
4) '83 Ford Mustang GT. Had this one about a week, dunno a whole lot about it as I got if from my brother in law before he shipped off for the peace corps. I know it had Eddlebrock heads and an Eddie Airfilter. He told me it had 390 HP and 405 lb/ft but I never had a chance to get it dynoed but I'd believe it from the feel. Was racing it along the lake ontario state parkway when the transmission gave out. The body was ****, lots of rot, the paint was dull and it had a stock drive train so I sold the engine to my friend who shoehorned it into his '90 TBird and put a fuel injection system on it.
'89 Ford Taurus SHO. This was a fun car, nice little stock sleeper as not many people know about the SHO and they look like an ass familly mobile anyways. I was sinking all my money into the 'lude so I just used this as my everyday beater.
'98 Honda CBR 600. 'Nuff said. More fun than sex.
'76 Ford Pinto. Found this one in a barn down in the finger lakes area and bought it from the owner for 100 bucks. It's got 45k on the ticker and aside from the dry rot tires, dull paint, and empty fluids it should be a nice car. Still haven't driven it, I'm looking for a TBird Turbo Coupe, or Merker XR4TI engine to put into it, but haven't had the time or money. Turbo Pinto... man talk about a sleeper lol.
'00 Honda Civic VP. The wife's car and familly grocery getter. Sweet little car, with 106 HP its the most gutless car I've ever driven but it does what it's supposed to do without breaking down and it's gotten me, my wife and my son through 2 serious accidents without injury and the thing still runs.
'99 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP (Supercharged). My current car. Big, comfortable, real stable around the turns, and more than enough power to have fun with without getting myself into trouble. This is the second favorite car I've owned. And with a heads up display, leather interior, heated seats and a hell of a sound system it is a true Road Tripping car.
Edit: Oh and no matter how many Honda's I have owned I have NEVER EVER made even one external modifications to any of my cars. Kill all Riceboys!

There's a company that brings them over and does the conversions. Trust me man you dont' want to go it alone with something like this. They don't meet US crash safety standards and don't meet smog standards in some states *Cough*Cali*Cough*. Major pains getting them through customs, lots of frame work to get them to meet standards and you can't register them in certain states. The aforementioned company (I'll post a link to their site as soon as I find it) charges upwards of 240 grand US for a GTR. They're nice cars and all that but you end up paying more than my house cost for a car that is a direct competitor for the accord in Japan. Save your money and get a Mazda 6, or if you really must spend money on a japanese sports car, get you one of these -
Pettit Racing Mazda RX7 TKT Banzai 3.1 0-60, for about $65k.....

the skyline is a direct competitor to the accord and mazda 6? er no dont think so, the skyline will totally murder one of those on the road and track, and i've never heard of a accord or mazda 6 being able to produce 1000BHP+ when their engines are tuned.

Originally by: Lucian Alucard I am planning on building a Super Car tbh and seeing as it weighs over 3500 pounds and is the size and weight of the majority of the current sedans made and I am putting on a Brembo brake system. And the car only has 43k TRUE miles and is the last of the original body style its blue book worth atm is 9500. So thank you for you concern but sentimental value is high as previously stated.
Yeah, I owe you an apology. I had been up for like 55 hours and was basically snapping every which way that I shouldnt. So rock on with you car. Sorry for giving ya **** over it.

SkyLines dont pull 1,000 ponies from a simple tuning though. I could be mistaken but I'm pretty sure you kinda have to stick 2 (even more) enormous turbo chargers on them, then pretty much replace your entire fuel delivery and ignition system. Throw in a dash of exhaust work. Toyota Supra will do the same thing, a small block for or chevy will do it easier. Whats the saying? Ford made cars, Garret made them equal.
Like I said I havent looked into Skylines specifially but thats pretty much how it goes. If its as simple as replacing waste gates and altering computer setting then I'm gunna start shooting people on the general principle of how freaking unfair that is.
Mazda 6 or the Accord could probly do the same thing if you threw 30 grand at thier motors. Some day I'm gunna throw a huge turbo on something stupid like a suzuki swift. That'd be hillarious. hehe, killer grociery getter!

a standard skyline has 2 turbo's, to get big ponies out of it you replace them with a single blower, and you would struggle to get 700 bhp from an accord or mazda 6, and to get these sorts of figures from a honda or mazda you would have to spend far more than you would to get a skyline pushing 1000.
Yes it isnt easy to get big horsepower from a skyline but at least it can be done, there are versions of the skyline in japan that are reputed to make well over 1500bhp, although i'm not sure how long their engines would last at that sort of horsepower, (i doubt any engine including a rat would last a great amount of time) these figures were without nos as well.

Saab 900i ('86)
Totally crap suspenders and chocks, feels like riding in a brick. But hey, when you get a car for 70$, you don't really have the right to complain to much about it.

I know some come with two turbos. What is it the R30 has like 1 or none.. theres a few inbetween and then you get that R32 ( R34? I dont remember) that's twin turbo, all wheel drive, over priced insanity. What I'm saying is two larger turbos. Kinda like how all the Mitsu and Eagle kids - first thing they do is swap the turbo for a larger model- T-5 to a T-15.. I think.
I imagine you're right about it being cheaper parts/labor with a skyline to bring it up to 1000 HP, but I'm willing to bet hard cash it'd be cheaper overall to do it with an accord or mazda. Skylines arent cheap. And what, you get a nissan ( which arent bad cars).
Its kinda like those Supra kids. Sure Toyota makes a good little car, and sure Supras are real neat. But when it comes down to it - its still Toyoata. Only you paid 50 grand for a used one. I feel the same about Skylines. Sure its cool, but its a Nissan. If It was a BMW, A Porsche, Lotus ... just seems odd to me to pay such high dollar for jap cars.

"the skyline is a direct competitor to the accord and mazda 6? er no dont think so, the skyline will totally murder one of those on the road and track, and i've never heard of a accord or mazda 6 being able to produce 1000BHP+ when their engines are tuned."
Stock for stock, yes they are. They are all midsize sport coupes/ sport sedans in the same basic price range. I can get any car to output a k of HP with enough time and money. Thing is when you get it producing those kind of numbers, how much of the engine is still nissan? The block, that's it. And don't fool yourself into thinking that reaching a k of HP is a matter of just some oversized turbo's or a blower, you're talking about an almost complete redesign of the entire power train and it aint gonna be street legal...
My original point still stands, paying 240k to get the car over here before even thinking about the money he'd spend on importing the parts needed to tune it. It ain't cost effective, and unless he's got a couple million to blow it's just dumb.
He might as well buy a Banzai for 65k inclusive and have a street legal car that can handle like a go cart and has one of the quickest 0-60 times in the world (for production cars).

Hey fellow upstater! I'm livin' in Rochester at the moment, pretty much spent most of my life in Western NY. And I've got a friend who's dad has a cabin in Pulaski, so believe it or not, I know the town well.
