Even having well over 1GB out of 2 ..is still a lot of ram being used.
No problem for you obviously but not everyody has that or has needed to have so much memory before the RMR patch which is ofcourse the whole point of a thread like this.

I would suggest that in modernday computer environment, one would use atleast 2GB of memory + 3GB of swap, minimum.
Program efficiently.

IMHO you shouldnt let windows dynamically create VM, set it to a static 1024 and you should be sweet as. Nasica

While you're sitting here watching a game allocate memory left any right, did you realize that textures and models are loaded/unloaded into memory left and right. You will see the memory slowly climb. It tends to peak at about 180mb-200mb or so for me, but it will never stay a static number as it's always constantly loading/unloading textures, models, and other assorted data. Granted, it's pretty rare for large projects to be perfected of memory leaks, but many people have played for hours on end with little problems so I doubt there's a several one in the eve client at the moment.
Also, keep in mind that video and sound drivers can cause this as well. RMR updated the graphics system to make things smoother.. if what methods it changed to make it smoother are buggy for the driver you have installed, the driver could be your memory leak.
1. update your video/sound drivers to the latest revision. 2. do the ctrl-alt-shift-m thingy to disable the memory mapping. 3. toy with the virtual memory settings (if the drive the virtual memory is on is near full or an older slower drive, this can cause much slowness of the system itself.) With 1.5gb or more, I just turn off VM. -------------------- -Oi- Sedory Darklight |

If I turned off VM it would grind to a halt when the ram gets used up.

i had the same problem, when i read this topic and started to minimize my clients it went back to normal memory usage.
Before that i had the problem that one client would get killed.
last is my own fault, got 1gb ram, and no VM set. this is because i find it silly to swap things to my drives when i have enough ram for it. <dude, where's my sig?> |
