Okay before all you hecklers start retorting with witty nothings.....
Machine 1. 750mb of ram 3700 xp 64 radeon 9800xt. It runs out of ram so much since rmr just running 1 client of eve and nothing else. It's a fresh install of Win Xp. Eve starts at 130 mb and goes up to 400 mb causing lots of shuffle fro hd to ram which freezez game for a long time.
Machine 2. Dual 3800x2 64 radeon 6600pro 1gig ram, used to run 2 clients easily but after a while it bogs down and runs out of ram.
Machine 3. XP3200 cpu FX5700 512 mb ram. This thing bogs down so much after 2 hrs of play I have to reboot.
None of this was like this before Rmr. I have freemem prog which fixes it for half an hour before eve creeps up towards 300-400mb then I have to run it again. When ram gets to 15mb it locks up. No it's not my machines as they were fine before. I usually only use 1 machine to play eve, but I tested it on the other's to see if it was eve or not.

It seems I read someone post that the isue is with the Rookie Help channel. I close that now on sratup and have never had a RAM leak issue..

Cheers for the reply, I tried your fix, it seemed to slow it down a bit, but the ram used by eve is still increasing as time goes on. It started at 65mb and now its on 180 30 mins after I did your thing :(

180MB to 250MB RAM per client is OK, IMHO. ----------------

Erm.. noo. The thing about memory leaks is that it doesn't matter how much ram you have, eventually you will always run out. An hour spent Afk in jita on the main station is enough to cripple anyone's ram. You wasted 4 seconds reading this post and you'll never get those back. |

Damn I must play too much I once got an EVE client close to 500MB of RAM, was playing from 12 (after dt) to almost 13 hours later. ___________________________________________ http://www.eve-tutor.com

hey, I have the same issues on one of my machines, after running the client for a few hours it will suck up more and more mem till my whole system locks up, before rmr this never happened. Yet on my other system no troubles at all, something is definetly up with the client and needs some looking into. Lots of people are suddenly having this issue so I know its not isolated.

Ive had absolutely no memory leaks. Infact I had just been playing CS:S for around 3 hrs and just realized I still had eve open when I closed CS:S I didnt lag at all.

yeah.. not necessarily user error but definitely not one of those "everyone has it" problems. I don't have the memory leak. Left Eve on for over 12 hours and the game ran perfect when I came back. ________

Edited by: Nasica on 27/12/2005 03:20:17 Edited by: Nasica on 27/12/2005 03:19:39 I didnt think a memory leak could be hardware specific though.... I may be wrong in this, but i thought if one program leaks on one machine, it will leak on 'n' different machines. I too, am not experiencing any memory leaks, my clients (2) have been running since server up, and both are using precisely 141megs of RAM. Perhaps it could be a virtual memory problem, you mentioned thrashing before.... is your VM set above 1gig ? If so that will cause much thrashing. Flame away if you like.... just trying to help :P Nasica

I guess I've never noticed a RAM-leak problem with EVE because of having over a gig of RAM on my PC, and I don't play for more than 4-5 without a decent break, thus killing the leak and forcing it to start over, if it exists for me.

Actually, it is probably OS specific.
Running 2000 server here with all pertinent patches and service packs, no mem leak at all.
Using 2000 server for its superior memory handling though, with most things I do not use from services turned off or removed.

Yep, 2000, 2003 server is pretty good on memory. Actually, alot of 'hardcore' gamers use these os's and get better performance over non server Windows os's.
Not me though, I don't care about memory... hell 1024GB stick is only $80 you cheap bastards :D
I'm not saying there isn't a memory leak though. Someone forgot to cleanup some pointers huh?
Or, maybe now eve is caching alot of stuff in memory, would explain why jita uses so much memory. -

For those that don't think they have a memory leak, download the free prog here:
http://www.meikel.com/en/products/freemem/
Then run it and will show you how much free ram you have.... look at it again in a few hours. You will see your ram slowly being eaten up.

Can I ask, could a memory leak cause a BSOD?
I think they're being caused by my RAM, and was about to buy a new stick.
But thinking about it I only get them when I'm running EvE and only lately (I guess since RMR).

i am sorry, but after running eve for 23 hours i did not leak any noticble amount of free memory. I also have not rebooted this computer in weeks, without any sign of abnormal performance degregation (sp).
I do not doubt however that your wrong, just i dont think it is a issue that is affecting us all, and, as i said earlier, i didnt ralise that actual 'memory leaks' could be hardware specific, or even be fixed by rebooting the client, i thought the only way to retrieve leaked memory is by using a 3rd party app, or hitting the big reset button.

Yeh i have this problem aswell. Nothing seems to work though in fixing it.
As for some people saying "buy this and do that with blabla" ..is ofcourse nonsense ..the problem is in the client or the patch and whatever was changed. Specially cause before the patch everything ran fine for many many hours.. but right now for me its become unplayable after an hour or 2.

Edited by: Theseuss on 27/12/2005 12:27:42 Couple of nights ago I played for 4-5 hours without restarting the client, and moved from system to system a lot. RAM usage ended up around 800mb right before the client froze up completely. I've tried this afterwards too, and it seems if I don't restart the client every few hours, I'll end up watching a slideshow (around 5fps).
Oh, and the setup where this happens is:
P4 3.0 Prescott 1gb dual channel DDR 400MHz Abit IC7-G mobo Sapphire Radeon X800 XT Platinum 256 Raid 0 HD setup on 2x WD 74gb Raptor SATA150's
Had no such problems as this before RMR, back then could run 2 accounts with no noticeable drop in performance. Now I can barely run one

So does it just make the client freeze up or could it cause a blue screen error?
Can somebody please answer this as I need to know whether to buy new ram or not. Your signature is too large! Please resize it according to the forum guidelines. Jacques Archambault |

Edited by: Nasica on 27/12/2005 13:14:26 No, a memory leak can not cause a BSoD. Unless, of course, the leak address a faulty segment of RAM, it might. Many things can cause a BSoD apart from RAM though. Simple things like your CPU over heating can cause a BSoD. So, i would check everything possible (and if possible borrow a friends RAM stick to confirm you have a broken stick). Nasica.

I would suggest that in modernday computer environment, one would use atleast 2GB of memory + 3GB of swap, minimum.

Edited by: Vidur on 27/12/2005 13:26:31 Well, something is broke with memory allocation in RMR, not sure its a memory leak or what. Pre RMR I could run 2 clients on 1 Gig ram with out any pagefile. Now post RMR patch I have to have the pagefile one when running 2 clients. This slows the system down alot, guess I have to go out and buy another Gig of ram.

You shouldn't have to upgrade your pc to play the new patch. Not everyone has a spare ú30 for more memory. It was fine before patch, I used to run it on a 256mb machine with no problems. Now I had to go and order and extra 512mb just to run the thing. Would be nice if CCP commented on this???

Not counting a couple of random disconnections, I've been playing eve today now for about 9 hours straight and I still have well over 1GB of my 2GB of RAM left. And thats including alt-tabbing doing stuff in the background.
