Interesting that BMW drivers are the leading jerks in both the U.S. and the U.K. The jerkness transcends national cultures and boundaries.
BMW drivers really are jerks, studies find
Drivers of BMWs frequently come in for anecdotal criticism for habits on the road that are perceived as aggressive. Now, a couple of studies, one in the U.S. and another from the U.K., appear to provide statistical evidence that BMW drivers are, to be polite about it, complete jerks.
In the older study, by researchers at the University of California, BMW drivers were far less likely to stop for a pedestrian who had just entered a crosswalk, the New York Times notes. GÇ¥Fancy cars were less likely to stop,GÇ¥ researcher Paul K. Piff told the paper, adding, GÇ£BMW drivers were the worst.GÇ¥
Drivers of BMWs and other high-status cars (including Prius hybrids) were also more likely to cheat at four-way-stop intersections, according to the research.
In the second study, in the U.K., motorists were asked to identify the make and color of the car from which they have most frequently suffered road-rage incidents, the Daily Mail reports.
The study found men between the ages of 35 and 50 driving blue BMWs were most likely to be reported as having engaged in road-rage behaviors such as aggressive driving and swearing. http://blogs.marketwatch.com/thetell/2013/08/13/bmw-drivers-really-are-jerks-studies-find/tab/print/

I read this yesterday. The part that I underlined made me laugh because around here we call them Pius drivers because they act like they're all high and mighty. Out of Pod is getting In the Pod - Join in game channel IG OOPE |

It's my understanding from wait-staff in San Francisco that they tend to be horrible tippers too.
BMW drivers were the original 'yuppies' who initiated the ruining of the American Economy in the mid-80s and now we are suffering the same from their Trust-Funded Babies. |

Lol glad to see I'm not the only one that calls Prius driver Pious drivers, the most amusing thing is that I get the same if not better MPG from my car than they do.
BMW drivers have always been arses, especially the ones in the X series monstrosities. Audi drivers aren't much better but the worst of the worst are taxi drivers, the rules of the road don't apply as far as they're concerned.

I don't. I drive a Disco. She's big, she's bulky, and she's a pig with a whopping 11 mpg. I also think that she's got her own gravitaty field because every time I park here at work it gets surrounded by Pius's and Smartcars. Out of Pod is getting In the Pod - Join in game channel IG OOPE |

Yeah, I can imagine BMW drivers complaining about Audi ones. Around here (NYC suburbs) the Audi drivers tend to race around at high speed from stop light to stop light and in the parking lots. They're all playing Transporter I guess.
Priuses are kind of uncommon. People want more flash for their buck. Not much snob appeal in being green around NYC. It's all about being deluxe.

Boots are useless. BMW drivers simply pay the fine and theyre off....
Now, Drive a BMW onto a curb..and back off.... it rips the cover off, destroys the cover and clips and all the plastic brackets holding it on, not to mention the undershields.... instant 1400 USD minimum repair bill.

How about coming back as a bunch of car-boots and just locking them all down ?? Clamps / boots are useless, they're easily removed with basic tools and if they've been put on incorrectly you can actually drive with one on a non driven wheel without damaging the car. If you can remove it without damaging it then there's nothing they can do, if you do damage it, you're liable for costs, if they can prove it was you that did the damage.
I've only been clamped once, my car at the time was a seriously lowered old Ford with little or no clearance in the arches. I saw the guy attempting to get the clamp on by jacking up the car, so I phoned the police and told them somebody was stealing my shiny alloy wheels, he had to remove the clamp or face a charge of unlawful interference (they're not allowed to jack up a car to apply the clamp).

Yeah yeah I hear the battle all the time.
Car Drivers: SUV drivers are silly. They think they are all that with all wheel drive but I see them in the median every where when it snows.
SUV drivers: Car drivers are silly. They claim that they can do the same thing as a SUV but every year I see them in the median when it snows.
The truth of the matter is that its the idiots who end up in the median, not a certain make or model of a vehicle.

Problem is SUVs mostly are just big cars with bad 4x4 driven by people who have no idea how to drive in snow. A BMW or Porsche 4x4 are damn near useless off road and are simply school run mum cars. That's the pointless SUV we hate, not the range rovers and land rovers. |

Er, my SUV is a Land Rover.....
I would also like to point out that driving a 4x4 on snow is not the issue. The driving is never the issue. It's the stopping that people don't understand. I'm just as capable driving a vehicle in 2 wheel drive as I am in 4 wheel drive. One should figure that to be true for many people considering that not every make or model SUV even has 4 wheel drive capabilities, which is something that people never take into consideration when they do the winter median boast.
So I'll say it again, it has nothing to do with the vehicle make or model, it has to do with the driver. If you want to keep making boisterous claims be my guest, but I find it all pointless and redundant. Out of Pod is getting In the Pod - Join in game channel IG OOPE |

My beef is with the big car for no reason school run mums who have no idea how big their motor is that tailgate you to the local shop where they proceed to park slightly over the line. After shopping they leave the car park making sure to use both sides of the road around every corner while making sure to never use their indicators and oh god I want to run them over in a tank. |

You could be right, it's been a long time since I've driven in Germany. What I was taught was that you stick to the right unless you're overtaking, the left lanes were strictly for overtaking, that said the fahrschule I attended was primarily aimed at UK and US servicemen and their families.

Interesting observation.
In Japan BMW drivers are often viewed as show offs and people who have a 'look at me' need due to BMWs being so expensive. Audis are the car of dentists as the boot can fit a golf bag. Porsche is a mid life crisis mobile.
So pretty much the same as the UK then.
Lexus drivers here tend to be viewed as "the boss" which being the boss makes me happy.

I thought I had uploaded some pictures but I guess I changed my mind. Was going to write a big ole post talking about how the Disco was down for most most of the summer because it had no bumper, having ripped the old one off and then finding out the new one doesn't sit right. Then discussing how I had to put up with an entire summer of beautiful 90-100 degree weather without a single cloud in sight while I drove the jeep with the top down and the doors off. Then finish with how I got tired of waiting for replacements so I just bought back the factory defect at half price and just modified the truck to fit the bumper.
Next step is either the winch itself or the rear bumper to match the front.
Funny story: I was at a autoparts shop last week because a hose broke on me. I fixed the issue and was refilling the radiator when a guy walked by giving my truck a weird look because he saw a bottle of coke sitting in the bumper. He asked what it was for and I told him for the time being it's for holding drinks, tools, and cats. Out of Pod is getting In the Pod - Join in game channel IG OOPE |

Yes she's the V8 and yes she is a pig. I average about 11mpg and since she requires only the finest my fill up usually peaks around $90 every few weeks, which is about what I paid for on the V10's 40 gallon tank ten years ago. Out of Pod is getting In the Pod - Join in game channel IG OOPE |

It's BMW's fault. Their vehicles are possessed or something. I've driven all sorts of cars and motorcycles, and the only time I drove consistently like a jerk is with BMW. The car/bike made me do it.
I'm pushing 60 years of age, and have gotten two speeding tickets in my life. Both for reckless driving. The first on an '88 BMW K75, and the second in a 2001 M5 (drag racing a cop. OK I didn't know he was a cop at the time).
Now I drive a Subaru. I could drive past a line of radar-equipped cops at 110 MPH (assuming the car could wheeze its way to such a speed) and they would ignore me. Except I would never do that, because I am driving a Subaru.
So, I blame the car.

Crossing Utah, at one point I fell asleep and left the highway - at speed. The suddenly heavy bumping woke me up - I was maybe ten yards off the shoulder, and the prairie was flat enough to not upset my truck more than a little jolting. I could've picked any direction of the compass and travelled at almost highway speeds.
Speaking of Nevada, my wife and her friend went blasting out of Laughlin, headed for San Diego... At 120+ MPH. In the middle of the night. They were getting passed. Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

That's some monotonous driving out there. At 65 mph, it feels like you're just crawling, because the road is so flat and straight, and the landscape is so featureless it doesn't seem like you're going anywhere. After a couple of hours of that, you've thought through your present situation, been over a good deal of your past, and are working on your future. After a couple of more hours, you're in a hypnotic trance state and about ready to start seeing visions. The country, Top 40, and Mexican music on AM radio helps a little, but not much. |

Oh God ! Nevada ! Driving across ! One of the worst experiences of my life. The only thing that got us through was Metallica's Black Album over and over again for 8 hours.
But West Texas is worse, especially the 2-lane highways. I had to stop driving and let my travel partner take over the driving. It's so flat, monotonous and hypnotic, the whole road and everything started spinning like a tunnel in an old amusement park ride. I almost wrecked the car.
ed: My driving partner said later: " I ain't never seen anything so flat since my ex-wife's chest."
Little dots on the horizon could turn into a farmhouse.....or a town. Absolutely no way to get any sense of scale. I don't know how they live out there everyday, it's so insane. |

As long as we're discussing roads now, the other one I would like to mention is taking 55 up to McCall. It's like the polar opposite of the flat turf and just as bad. The whole trip up there you have the Payette on one side, often times with no guard rail, and a mountain on the other and it's just turn after turn after turn after turn, and after 2 hours of that **** it's like what Krixtal mention, you start getting that tunnel vision with the dots and whatnot. When we went up to Moscow I spent most of my time trying to focus on the 5th wheels left brake light. Looking at the water made you want to gravitate towards it. Once you get to 95 North though its not as bad and there's a little bit more scenery to look at. Out of Pod is getting In the Pod - Join in game channel IG OOPE |

Did some 1500 miles across Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and up into Arkansas in one day; Picked up a strong tailwind coming into New Mexico, and the miles just flew away. The wind was so strong that I was disbelieving my gas guage... I was getting something like 45mpg in a pickup truck. At one point, I tried to pull over to drain tanks... And I almost couldn't! On a slight upwards incline, truck in neutral, and just coasting, I was doing 40mph. I had to stand on teh brakes to stop - weren't easy, I can tell you.
I started that day west of Tucson, and ended beyond Little Rock.
Edit: (Drove (distantly) past Waco the day before the Branch Davidian Raid) |

I-10 through West Texas and to El Paso is a breeze.....a boring breeze, but a breeze nonetheless.
Yup, it's the further north route through Texas that one wants to avoid. We were only going that way so we could get to Santa Fe. We somehow made it from my parents home on the west side of Houston, up through Dallas, then west to Santa Fe.......in 14 hours.
Mainly because after my friend took over the driving I don't think we went less than 95 mph. He just wanted to get the hell out of there. |

it's the dynamics of their cars tbh. a few trips on my bro-in-law's 123d coup+¬ made me feel that.
it's... something about the engine-car-user synergy that makes you feel.. I dunno.. haughty? feels good to drive tho, even if ride confort is... bleh when you mix up the M pack. wished I drove a L6 instead that perky 2liter L4.

Nowhere to fly in that area really that avoids it. Lubbock is smack-dab in the middle of it all. Nothing really west of that until Santa Fe really.
The change in landscape as you literally cross the Texas/New Mexico border is amazing and a relief. Sudden greenery...with HILLS !!! |

Strange, that didn't happen to me when I flew from SFO to Floriderp last year. Not even when my medical grade herbage fell out onto the conveyor belt (true !). They literally just chuckled and moved me onward. |

Honestly I would just fly and rent than go through that kind of hell. True, but driving doesn't require you to be molested by a stranger before going anywhere. And it was (and still is) a damn sight cheaper, most ways. Sure, there are gimmick fares, but I can usually drive 1000 miles for about 1/4 what airline flight would cost me. All I have to do is fuel up and go. No body search, no lines, no humiliations, no "show me your papers" bull, either.

Try flying out of Philly. I dare you.

What is available in Floriderp is honestly really bad....sub-par. secret networks for medical grade and everything. Everyone here is still too rightfully paranoid to even mention it. The law here brooks no quarter at all. It's like being in absolutely another country compared to Cali. |

Worth it tbh.
Its an option of two evils. Spend less, go on the forever roads that have nothing to look at and silly speed restrictions with police equipped with cloaking devices and service station that sell things like sreak cheese and gravy biscuits.
Or spend more on a flight, get felt all over by the fat security fella while you mate gets the hot one, get a hot meal on the flight which may or may not be chicken while the kid behind you kicks your seat and rages about not getting that stale muffin.
The car is cheaper but the flight is over quicker. |
