I'm relatively new regarding reading the forums and enjoyed it at first. Then I started noticing that all the forum vets had alot more likes than us newbies. I've tried like whoring as much as I can but there seems to be this 'like wall' I can not penetrate. I've decided to push through but alot of my friends who started forums with me have stopped because of this issue.
What is CCP going to do to bridge this 'like gap' between newbies and vet? |

It's common knowledge that if a vet with many likes posts against a newbie with few likes, the vet comes away victorious 9 times out of 10. Many say that the newbie can bring more newbie friends to drown out the vet or find vet friends to guide them in making better content but that hardly addresses the problem at hand.
We must work together to bring attention to this issue and fix it.

This is an extremely serious matter than the CSM takes very seriously indeed.
I think that there is a good argument to be made for a "PLEX for Likes" system, but I think this forum PLEX system should mirror the in-game system: rather than buy likes for PLEX directly from CCP they should be sourced from other players.
Furthermore: In order to prevent the inevitable uncontrollable Like inflation that will inevitably occur, CCP should limit the number of likes that can be gained or granted by any single account. However, I recognise that some players will want to take the risk of losing some of their likes in order for the chance to gain larger numbers by skillfull forum diplomacy or even just good posting.
Therefore I propose that the sub forums be categorised in to "hi-sec" "lo-sec" and "0.0" forums as follows.
In the hi-sec forums (eg: New Citizens Q&A, EVE Information Centre) , you will be able to receive and donate a maximum of 10 likes per account
In lo-sec forums (eg: Crime & punishment, Ships & Fittings) you will be able to receive or donate a maximum of 20 likes per account, but you can also spend one of your likes to remove a like from a post from another player. However you can only spend 1 like per day this way against any one player.
In 0.0 forums (eg: COAD, Market Discussion), the maximum is 50 receive/donates per account, and there is no restriction on how you can use your likes to remove likes by other players.

I definitely do not want the Forums to become the pay-to-win cesspit that the actual game has become.
In the forums today we see the classic evolution of the uncharted frontier: it happened in the Wild West of the USA, it happened in null sec in EVE Online, and it is happening in the forums and Evelopedia today. As a new frontier is opened up, the enterprising individuals who are first to enter that space have free range with few restrictions on where they can go and what they can do: resources are plentiful, unclaimed sov is easy to find, unexplored encyclopaedia articles are easy to fill with text.
Over time the barrier to entry increases: there is less wild in the wild west, there is less unclaimed sov in null sec, there are fewer questions unanswered in the Evelopedia, and fewer interesting new topics to discuss which haven't been done to death already.
Ultimately, every like you get today is worth many more likes from a few years ago simply because likes were so readily handed out, and there was new ground to explore on the forums. These days we've just about had it with "why do you create female characters if you're a guy", "I know how to fix AFK cloaking" and "margin trading should be removed from the game." It becomes harder to achieve likes, but that doesn't make the low-like forum poster less powerful or interesting than the high-likes forums whores such as Tippia and Malcanis.
Hang in there, and know that you are appreciated for who you are, not how big your likes count is.

This also validates a serious need for a forum facing skill area where those that have "copy/paste" skills and "quick witted reply" skills to above Lvl4 can buy and train the "additional like capability" skill which would preempt and CANCEL out other likes ... MID-POST!!! UNLESS The respondent has trained "pre-emptions", the skill that allows the finishing and posting of said post AND inserts a default like regardless of ANY of the skills listed above - however CCP might have to nerf that in the next patch - for as it stands this is too overpowered for the average poster.
Should the postee have "inertia response" trained, (a subsection to forum warrior and goon hater to lvl3) they will then have the capability to organise a bot to automatically remove all likes to the previous 4 posts (having trained it to lvl5 oc) and accrue those likes for himself.

I object to all this nonsense.
CCP should not spend their precious resources on trivial matter such as PLEX for Likes. They should focus their resources on improving the forum mechanic, graphic and rebalancing forum stats. This is a much worthy cause which will improve all posters forum experience.
Our subscription money should be used wisely; CCP should not go off tangent with silly projects which add no value to posting..

Hey it is OUR subscription money that they are planning to use for this nonsense. It is bad enough that the posting mechanic is designed for the benefit of large alliances with huge member. Where is solo posting or small gang posting? they all but extinct in the forum. They are turning blind eyes to broken posting mechanic because it benefits large alliances with their huge RMT operation. |

It's a known fact that people with high-value Aurum store items tend to have a large number of Likes. What's not known is whether they get more Likes because of their bling, or whether they buy bling because of their large number of Likes.
Also, statistically, people with boring jobs tend to have more Likes than those with interesting jobs. |

I recommend you contact Erotica 1 and have your likes doubled. I have 5 different chars that I play. This may be my main, or maybe not. I have no idea. |

Drone 16 wrote:Malcanis wrote:This is an extremely serious matter than the CSM takes very seriously indeed.
@Malcanis Have you considered an "Aurum for likes" program? You could have a whole range of "designer likes", people will pay through the nose for a nice set of "likes"....
Although I have to admit that "Aurum" triggers an instinctive negative reaction in me, it's difficult to see why a currency specifically intended to purchase "vanity" items should not be used for Likes.

And tbh it might finally provide a viable use for all those free AUR that were given away. At least other people can see ones likes.

Yea, but that would lead to a bunch of AFK liking. That would be....bad.

What is CCP going to do to bridge this 'like gap' between newbies and vet?

OP has some likes already. So those could be doubled. As long as OP follows Erotica 1's like doubling rules, there shouldn't be a problem. She's the only legitimate Like doubler in New Eden. I have 5 different chars that I play. This may be my main, or maybe not. I have no idea. |

The going rate for people selling likes in this thread seems to vary from a plex for a few likes (If we assume they are speaking in the orcish number system few would be five and the isk/like = 125 million isk) to as low as 1 million isk/like. Since likes have as of yet not been nerfed by CCP, lets assume the latter to be closer to the truth and that you would have to add 1 - 2 million isk for every like the character has.
To buy Tippia would then cost between 16 - 32 billion isk aside from character skills. This would seem to be a fair amount.
