Setting the scene:
It's been a long day, your battle scarred ship is towed into the hanger after another tiresome day of fighting. All you can think about is selling that serpentis loot you picked up last week so you afford a nice pod cleaning and maybe another booster.
You get out of your ship and "oh my word!" did terrorists attack your item locker again?!
You know the problem - where's our solution!!?
Using cans to organise things works to a point but c'mon!! every operating system and organisational program ever made understands folders - why can't our item hanger?
the very simple request
Allow us to create folders in our Items hanger so we can ORGANISE things. These folders would be displayed under Assets and all items in them would have the same properties and options as they do in the root "Items" folder.
There should be no limit to the amount of folders you can create, or how many folders deep you can go, OR how much stuff can go in one folder. These are essentialy virtual folders and only exist to allow us to organise things properly.
I've resorted to using cans except now i don't know which is in what can and because they can't be viewed in assets i'm losing things left right and centre! Also i keep running out of space!
I tried using station containers but then it LOCKS everything! how freaking annoying. It's so simple CCP its just a folder!

At least make the station containers not lock items on drop and let them repackage inside...

Personally I consider having just folders too much work in the same way as cans. I'd rather have either filters, which allow me to view certain groups of items (Weapons, Propulsion, Ores) or an "auto-folder" system where items get dumped into folders according to rules I set beforehand (weapons, minerals, average marketprice in this reagion over 1 mil, ...)
Right now I just generally order by type, but to have a system in place that would help find things faster would be good.

Station contaigners are good substitue for a folder. Lock/unlock - is not a problem for me. Real problem is invisibility of items in the contaigners. :( Lost somewhere 2 t2 items.

Oh yah signed. I have far too many BPO/BPCs to futz about looking for things.
Filters, folders, whatever it takes. I'm sick of moving things out of cans just to work on/with them.

God yes, with the added feature of giving corps more folders. 7 just isnt nearly enough for large corps.

Not a bad idea, mate... the filter one, that is. Though, that could load as slow as the Escrow if you're in a key system like Ours or Jita. I like it though. *************************************************

Signed, though I expect CCP will respond (if they do at all), by implementing their stupid standard 7-segment-hangar code snippet, rather than allowing any user configurability.
Even if they do, it's an improvement. I don't want to stare at and I'd imagine CCP doesn't want to use the CPU to load a full 300 items in my packrat hangar every time I re-up - let us seperate them without the logistics of cans [esp in 0.0]. ---------------------------- T2 Destroyers: a proposal Requested Changes: An alphabet's worth |

You have figured out the solution already, use cans to sort...you can rename them, repackage them if empty...very useful....far better then lag inducing folders for items.....and the best part, they are already in the game!

Yeah, and you can't search for items when they're sitting in a can that isn't at your location - now if you added that to search and could open cans with view only access from a remote location, then that would effectively achieve what the poster suggested in the first place. Which was a good idea btw...

Searchable/Filterable folders would be even better, but I'll take whatever I can get, as the current setup sucks even compared to having chests full of backpacks in UO :D

Better control of cans I believe is called for, if not folders (which to me sounds alittle stange to use folders to organise your starship mods).
A quick fix for this would be to give station cans a opition to disable the locking of items and allow them to put other cans inside. Then allow us to open them from assects and allow search to go thur them.

Hardly any of the members use there own cargo bays for store anything but their most valued items or in use but unfitted mods so they don't get snached up for someone elses upgrade.
Each division we gave a different name. High-slot Med-slot Low-slot msc-cargo ships-frozenfoods (corpses) BP-skills-mat-ore
Using them makes sorting swag and gear or fitting a ship an absolute breeze and since it's not in cans we can still look through it remotely.
It would a very nice improvement to the game if we could make various folders.
** Make sure if you do this, it is only with the most trusted corp members else all your stuff can go bye bye!

No matter those that say they can manage with station containers and suchs.. thats just a work-around for doesnt have anything better... as this sugestion...
I totaly aproove this idea, and I already have asked for it before...
Organize our things sometimes is a PAIN, and this game is VERY about things we own, so please we need more focus on things that help us to take care of that.

Having to unlock everything in cans is extremely annoying. Especially with the right-click delay that popped up recently.
What's the point when it's a personal hanger can?

This really is needed. I'm still fairly new and i already have 70+ items in a couple of hangars, which is irritating to sort through. It would also be useful if the assets window showed how many of a particular item we had. I wanted to check how much noxcium I had earlier, but I had to wait until I was back at the station to find out, which is both annoying and a pointless restriction.

Totally, I end up refineing things that I need later just so I can understand my items better! All they'd needa do is add mutliple hold thingies... I mean, I don't wanna buy cans...
