Just to say the patch didn't fix my character selection black screen. |

So far every time a patch has come out, I get to see the character selection screen once. But after closing and reopening, I get the same issue of black screening on character select. My experience is that if I brute force it by constantly closing and reopening when it fails, I can click on my character without seeing it and sometimes continue on to the game. Other times I get a debug message saying 'Unhandled page fault on read access at 0x00000 at address 0x8f18ab02.' So I assume that if I can sometimes brute force it into the game, then it can't be faulty hardware or a setting somewhere. Also, sometimes when brute forcing it, I get the game but severely distorted, as in static across the screen with different colored/dense static to mark where my chat/overview/sidebar etc. But this effect is only after alt+tabing out then resuming the game.
I'm running on a 2.4 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo processor Memory: 4GB DDR3 Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 320M
Hopefully some of this may help! |

I havent had the black screen or flicker crash on my setup (just a lot more old fashion screen freezes). But last night I did notice something weird when I logged on. The authenticating process is taking a lot longer for me the last few days (and now that I really think about it since the last major update). Probably about 5 times as long as it used to (25 seconds or so compared to about 5 seconds before). What really caught my attention though was during one launch last night my screen did flicker in blocks just when it was starting to load, but only for a brief moment then it went ahead and loaded eve.
So I'm starting to wonder if this is really something that is affecting all macs, just some macs can power through it while others can't? |

Same problem here.
I emptied cashes and was able to get in. However When I went to switch to my alt the problem was back.
Not a programmer, so most of the mumbo jumbo on this thread means little to me but someone should give Meita Way a high 5! |

Ok, an intresting update. Like I said before, I have not been having this problem where I can't play, but just now I almost had it happen.
What did happen was I played after todays update just fine this morning with no isuues at login. Then just now I got a quick flashy screen right after entering the my pass, then it hung on the authenticating black screen for 50 seconds (yes I counted). After that though it went to the charachter screen and I could get in and play.
So yea, I'm really thinking some sytems are able to power through the problem while others can't and this is really effecting all macs, just some crash. |

I tried everything that support told me to do and also followed what all of you said to do concerning those 4 files. Nothing works. I was OK before the the original patch. Dealing with support is liking sending a message from the Sun to the earth. The lag time is way too long. I have been off the game for a week. I had this happen to me approx two years ago and I couldn't play for a long time. |

So I'm starting to wonder if this is really something that is affecting all macs, just some macs can power through it while others can't? Its only affecting a small number of Macs. All the one's CCP have do not have this issue. Mine does not. CCP says the number of Mac users that log in and play now is about the same as it was a few weeks ago. Its one thing that's making it so hard for CCP to find the issue, they have plenty of Macs, but none that show the bug. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

Yea, but my computer hadn't shown the bug either unitl last night and today?
And I was still able to get in (playing right now) but there is definatly somehting happening now to my client that shouldn't be going on at login, and wasn't before.
Vincent, have you noticed any increase in the time it takes for your clients to authenticate? |

When this is over, I suggest that we all start a corporation, and call it "The Black Screens". Membership will be limited to the people who have contributed to this thread.
We will be PVP oriented, specifically we will rove in gangs, hunting down players who use PC and destroying their ships.
Until then let's raise our glasses to Snorlax and the gang for doing their best to help this Motley Crew.
(Yes I,ve been drinking. What else is there to do when you can't play EvE.) |

We have just put a patch out on Singularity with a bug-fix, which we hope fixes the black-screen issue. We would really like to hear if you can log on and play on Singularity.
How to connect to Singularity
As we have been unable to reproduce the issue, we again depend upon you good folks to tell us if the problem is solved.
Here-¦s hoping it is............

I hope someone is "Singularity Ready" and can give us a quick answer.
I am downloading the EvE client again and it is 6.92 GB. That will take me till about 3AM Toronto time. (8AM EvE Time). I will be up and ready to try it by about Tranquiity's down time.
That's the best I can do. |

But with a fully working client, what can I do? I guess I can at least make sure it did not get broken for me. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

This is how I set up singularity, using my main EVE client as a base. The only extras to download are patches ( and that happens by itself ).
Quote:
1) Find your TQ client in finder ( it's probably in `Applications` ).
2) Copy and paste it, so you've got a duplicate - it probably named itself `EVE Online copy`. I renamed mine to `EVE Online SiSi` but it doesn't matter, call it what you want, but bear in mind I've copy and pasted command lines with that name being used.
3) Open up a terminal ( use spotlight "Terminal" ), and navigate to where that copy is. In my case, type ( no quotes ), "cd /Applications/"
3a) You're going to patch the copy to Singularity - DO NOT DO THIS ON YOUR MAIN CLIENT! Make SURE you use the copy!
4) Run that copy in Singularity mode - enter this in the open terminal ( no quotes ): "open EVE\ Online\ SiSi.app --args /server:87.237.38.50"
5) When I did that, the launcher opened, patched itself then quit. Took about 2 minutes.
6) Run that command again in the open terminal: "open EVE\ Online\ Sisi.app --args /server:87.237.38.50"
7) When I did that, the new launcher patched EVE itself up to the version on singularity. Took about 5 minutes.
8) Log in using the launcher window that's still open.
You should be able to get in to singularity, just like a normal EVE launch. Hopefully, like me, you won't crash |

Yay, SiSi won't lockup or flicker on me

So I did exactly as instructed here and got on the singularity server! No black screens at login, no flickering, no problems in the dock or with the scroll down menu of asteroid belts or with warping. Everything worked well!
So Snorlax, when are you going to throw it out on Tranquility? And just as a side note, what was the problem? :)

Thanks for that great advice !
I was able to access singularity and logged on and off three times with no issues.

I appreciate CCP's efforts to get this solved and I understand it takes some time, in particular without being able to reproduce the bug inhouse.
At the same time, there's players who haven't been able to log in for more than a week now. I know this is and always has been a controversial issue, but I think that least a SP reimbursement for the lost time would be a useful compensation. I'm not even talking about lost game time, potential ingame profits, etc. which are even more controversial. But at least compensating the lost training time to some extent would be nice gesture. Of course after resolving the issue itself which has higher priority for most of us, I guess. |

Yeah I'd like to hear on what CCP will do for us players other than just game time. To me it's lost profit, lost time etc. I'd want to hear on ship reimbursements too since servers cannot pick this issue up. |
