Ishtanchuk Fazmarai wrote:So CCP's plans for EVE are to work on other games... Interesting. BTW, anyone wants to bet that Valkyrie will be released for mobile devices? It shreeks of accelerator-based control. And they need CCP Unifex to earn his bread now that he's back to the UK...
I see your bet and I raise you:

Add to that the recent well praised EA ex-employee hire and you've figured out the rest of the puzzle (business model wise).

I think you are mistaking me for Oculus Rift CEO.
Inokuma Yawara wrote:The battery life of a "Smart(a55) phone" added to what the battery life of an Occulous Rift plugged into that Smart(a55) phone....
There are other mobile devices available other than smartphones. Usb-pugging an Occulus Rift into one isn't the same thing as plugging in a laundry machine or a refrigerator. The Oculus Rift is usb powered (low voltage) and should consume about the same or little more power than your regular mobile device display as it is basically what it is, (Head Mounted Display) with the addition of motion sensors. Heres another article for you to wrap your eyes around http://cleantechnica.com/2013/02/19/next-generation-lithium-ion-battery-designed-should-hit-market-within-2-3-years/

You should tell your work partners to not charge their phone batteries so often! Doing so before their power is depleted will decrease the number of recharge cycles under optimal condition (battery lifespan). |

Yep, using the Oculus Rift for extended periods of time might raise some concerns regarding your eyes' and brain's health. Never used one before or read it's technical specs, so I don't know if there is any significant amount of magnetism emmited by the integrated circuit, but exposing your eyes to bright light source so closely (even though not as intense or close as those you will face when welding) has the potential to, at least, expose your retina to extra stress. Although I suppose the lenses they are fitting in between the display and your eyes might provide some protection . Regarding brain health I'd become more concerned if they make a wireless (bluetooth or wifi) version. |

Actually, regarding my last posts, after looking for OR spec info I found out the curcuit is separated from the headset and it's actually powered from external power source (AC/DC converter) but it won't be too hard for them to pull the power it uses from a usb cable like we see this dude doing here http://www.roadtovr.com/2013/04/18/oculus-rift-usb-power-hack-eliminates-need-for-a-wall-adapter-4971 and with the new gen mobile devices and lithium ion batteries it might be viable to do so. |

Given the recent record of mediocrity standardized in game/expansion releases from CCP it wont surprise me to see this one poorly delivered aswell. Might take a long time for you to see that happen. Looking forward to hearing Gamescom news about other companies' releases like Rockstar Games which has delivered awesome sauce WINNING SWAG in all their titles, and hear confirmation on GTA V PC version. |

Rain6638 wrote: Also, I love the idea of a handful of talented staff pushing out a concept like this. That's the story I'd like to read
Telented staff pushing out a concept like this:
EVE VR: - Used Oculus Rift hardware developed by 3rd party company G£ô - Used Unity graphic engine developed by 3rd party company G£ô - Hired pay to win marketing weasel to put in charge of game and business model development G£ô
Dust 514 - Used Unreal 3 graphic engine developed by 3rd party company G£ô - Cloned FPS features from other titles and delivered rather dull and washed up gameplay G£ô - Sold the product to Sony to be released in old and weak PS3 platform hardware G£ô
Meanwhile, on its own company developed graphic engine software:
Trinity: - Unable to iterate and develop it's graphic and physics engine to Direct x 11 support and improve model/particle collision physics G£ô - Unable to improve core gameplay feautures like POS and SOV mechanics untouched for ages G£ô
Carbon: - Unable to deliver fluid movement avatar movement and gameplay features G£ô - Unable to deliver build of the software that doesn't melt user GPU's G£ô
Waving CCPeens around with feats like "Connecting all the three games in a single server" might seem appealing to you, but it's not what most people are looking for when they buy and play a game. |

Oh and btw, in case you didn't see, in the end of those trailers there is this written in there:
"xbox 360, ps3, PC"
and
"THIS TRAILER WAS MADE ENTIRELY FROM IN GAME FOOTAGE"
I challenge CCP do do the same in the next EVE Online expansion trailer |

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-09-03-sony-set-to-go-big-with-virtual-reality-on-playstation-4
shocking
Here comes Sony, great punisher of those who dare hacking or jailbreaking their devices, defender of copyright and anti-piracy, getting ready to reverse engineer an Oculus Rift and retail one in a Slim case with a SonyGäó logo on top.
Won't be too long before CCP is getting paid gloves by them again and asking you to buy a Sony HMD to play dust on a ps4 ahahah |
