Gaming is not "sad." Being addicted and avoiding a social life for a game is "sad." I play EVE, but I play it on the evenings when nothing is going on -- it takes up the time slot most americans devote to watching TV and is no more or less "sad" than wasting 3 hours watching American Idol or something (actually, IMHO, gaming > TV since you at least have some cerebral involvement with gaming.)
If I became famous, I'd still play EVE -- probably less as I'd have more $$$ to do other interesting things like travel and such, but I wouldn't give up my "favorite pasttime" of gaming.
If you think playing EVE is sad, then quit, because once you realize you have a problem... the only healthy thing to do is address that problem.
I play EVE because I have nothing better to do...when I have something else to do, I play it less...I didn't mean any offence by it

I was once in the same supermarket queue as the actor who played Wikkit the Ewok and Willow (in the film of the same name) if that counts.
The punchline is that I mentioned it to my gf and she got all serious and told me to get off the drugs. I had to dig out his address in my town before she believed me.

Dont you understand that if you can drive a Bentley or Ferrari every day its not a big deal.
Take for example Robin Williams, he's at least among famous people what you would call a hardcore gamer. And is an avid FPS player, and a fairly decent one too. I think he shows up at the Electronic Gaming Convention every year. There are others I'm sure, they just dont say because there is a stigma associated with playing games.
Me, I roll my eyes at the poor bastards that sit 6 hours blindly staring at the TV every day.

Well said brother.....Personally, I think there is still just some form of social stigma that socety still has for games such as EVE, WoW, EQ, you name it. Personally, I would much rather play games such as these where thee is a sense of accomplishment for doing something, actually requires me to think, and has a form of community. Once I started games like these, it's rare that I even watch TV anymore.

Right at that point I sooo wanted to give her a good hard...erm...uh...nevermind.
