Okay first things first, I am tired of blasters, my pvp alt is blasters and i hate them with a passion. I like being at least 10km from my target and dealing decent/sustained dps, and the choice to switch damage types. Plus missiles/rockets just look cool.
This toon is currently indy with a few skills in combat, mainly my skills are in industrial, i have decent passive tanking ability, and a little active tanking ability. I love missiles, the idea of being just a step away from a stealth bomber without much effort. I also like exploration as it will help out with production (BPCs yeah!).
okay so now to my question.
I love pvp, i love to fight. Would missiles (not rockets) offer a viable line leading to pvp combat, (higher end pvp, not petty s**t) and still be effective solo? I know missiles can track a tad better, and i love that because frig pvp is usually what i do whenever nothing else is going on.
Also a second question. Passive tank, missile boat. What would be the best ship for this (caldari preferred, tech I and II). I'm thinking drake looks nice, but maybe a gem i'm just missing.
Thank you guys for any replies |

missles are fine in general. heavies got nerfed a bit too much and torps could probably use some buff but the others are mostly fine. ofc everything is situational. for frig pvp light missle kiting can be very effective and rockets are also very viable
for the "best" probably some crazy expensive linked up hg implanted 100mn tengu |

Missiles are good in PVP because they can deal stable damage without considering angular velocity. if you want a missile boat and passive shield tank then Drake is your first choice. With heavy assault missile they can deal great damage and they have good defense. |

Thank you for the replies, i like shield tanking alot more than armor tanking, seems like you get less, but passive tanking is great since you can focus more on dps and tactics than babying your hardeners and reppers
Just fit up a caracal and hopefully i'll be running a few level 3's tonight

I'm all for the buffer tank for pvp, its just comments like "but passive tanking is great since you can focus" that made me ask. |

For solo/small gang stuff I find missiles preform extremely well. Long kite range, stable damage. I would say caracal is a good choice t1 and cerberus t2 after 1.1 as stated. As for that statement that said passive fit it he means buffer, it's just that as you fit mods such as extenders your passive does rise a bit but your best tank will be distance in the end. Okay so, can someone explain to me please; passive tanking, buffer tanking and active tanking? Whats the difference?
If I am correct in thinking, active tanking is having things like am ASB on the ship correct? Or not
Edit: Actually sod it, someone explain all three? Haha Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person." |

Buffer tanking: The goal here is simply to get the largest amount possible of effective ehp via a combination or raw ehp and resists. Buffer tanked ships typically include modules like 1600mm plates or large shield extenders.
Active Tanking: It can get a bit confusing here, but my general definition of active tanking is that you are using a module to actively repair damage. This includes armor/shield repairs, and of course ASBs and AARs.
Passive Tanking: When you rely on your 'passive' shield recharge to overcome incoming damage. Obviously since armor doesn't repair itself, it is impossible to passive armor tank.
Note: There is a big difference between passive/active tanking, and passive/active modules. For example, a passive drake will typically include an adaptive invul, which is an active module. |

Personally, i have almost perfect missile skills so i can hit out to ~60 - 70km, I would love to do some solo, high speed missile kiting, the only thing i worry about is getting the target pointed out at those ranges. Ideas? |

Ideas? If you're alone, at those range you'll be looking at off grid boosting alt + a faction point.
Otherwise, fly with a gangmate in an arazu/lachesis
Most kiting engagements take place within the 20-30km window, unless ofc you fly faction point + OGB as above. |
