Some or even most of you may recall back when Rogue Drones used to drop various Compounds affectionately referred to as "Drone Poo" by the player base.
Back in Inferno Rogue Drones were changed so that they had bounties like every other rat type. Overall this was a good change, it removed the pain in the arse that was collecting any sort of value from the things and removed a major source of "Gun Mining". AKA the input of minerals into the economy from the refining of loot dropped by NPCs.
This stabilized the value of Rogue Drones with relation to the rest of the economy and there was much rejoicing. The problem though, is that now Rogue Drones don't drop anything of value. They salvage into just about anything but this doesn't result in particularly higher value salvage than other rats so overall Rogue Drones got a decrease in value as rats, especially in Low and Null sec.
What they do drop, at least in Null Sec, is tons of Rogue Drone Components which are, unfortunately just about worthless. Which is sort of amazing since they go into making what are the most expensive drones in the game.
The reason for this is because the blueprints are so absurdly rare you have better odds of finding an Officer Module than you do an 'Augmented' drone blueprint and the blueprint is only worth 5 runs of 50-100mil drones, while the officer mod is worth a few billion ISK.
All of this really doesn't make a lot of sense, especially since we now have Navy drones which are really extremely comparable (scroll down to "Variations") and pretty much every other faction mod in the game is less rare than these drones.
I propose increasing the drop-rates of these blueprints dramatically to be competitive in supply to Navy drones and at a ratio tied to the drop rates of these drone components
This would give everyone something to use these otherwise fairly worthless drone components on, which would drop the supply and increase demand as well as increase the supply of these fairly good but rarely used drones. At present you are more likely to kill someone with an Officer Module fitted than you are these drones, and that's a little ridiculous. |

+1 from me - this is a great idea. I'd like more flavour of drones for the sake of it, (especially as they are already in game).
I also like the lore of the rogue drones. I wish there was more to them than there currently is.
But for the OP - great :) |

More lore of rogue drones would be cool.
I remember the first time I accepted a rogue drone mission, I entered the mission room, and there it was, lots of drones + one humungous unfinished structure that looked like a mix between a giant eye, a rogue drone and a station. o_O
I was like "My god, was is that?!" ... Anyways, that was before i realized that such structures have no meaning at all. But damn... that first moment when I saw that. I felt like a mouse sneaking into the lair of a gian mechanical ever hungry cat. :) There's nothing a million chinese guys can't do cheaper.

The only thing that makes the 'augmented' drone line expensive is the Elite Drone AI which only drops from certain missions and I believe a high end complex.
As far as the blueprints are concerned they are relative easy to get from drone region data sites. Novis Initiis is Recruting-á --á Ideas for Drone Improvement |

Doing hacking sites I found 3 augmented drone bpcs in the course of 6 hours. However, I still cant sell my billion isk of loot no matter what I do, I think the drones themselves should also be better since they only get you a small sliver of extra dps compared to fully skilled t2 for 100mil a pop. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=174097 Separate all 4 empires in eve with lowsec. |

They actually do no more DPS than T2 drones, they just have speed, HP, and tracking bonuses compared to their T2 counterparts, and after you apply T2 drone skills they're actually slightly worse DPS.
I'm not suggesting that the drones need to be strictly better than T2, I'm suggesting that in order for them to see use the blueprints need to be common enough that they're worth selling and manufacturing like Navy drones are since they offer interesting trade-offs compared to Navy and T2 drones. |

Nope, I picked up 5 of these from one mission, they drop from "Elite" drone battleships which are terribly common in certain missions and in Null, the AI's are worth like 10k ISK because no one wants them.
Part of what spawned this thread was a discussion with a friend who lived and ratted in Drone-Null for something like half a year and when I commented that I thought those components were rare he said he had hundreds or thousands of them. The prices at Jita reflect this, very little volume in these drones or any of the components. |
