Wow. Nice work CCP. That art dept. vid 1 was amazing...
Pretty space is certainly cool... but my "jaw dropper" moment is the relative positioning of celestial macro objects in space.
Can you imagine? We're going to be able to look around a system and know WHERE we are relative to the rest of known systems visually! That blows me away. Space is going to feel a lot bigger but at the same time a lot more connected...
...its just really cool to me.
I wonder what wormhole space will look like...

I haven't seen the vid yet (and unfortunately won't until Monday) but I expect that if such a new model does exist, then it's likely to be considerably higher-resolution (it won't be so blurry viewed close-up) Let's...just assume there's some kind of signature here, 'k? ... ... OH WAIT. |

Really pleased to see them talk about the new nebulae, I've been excited about them since fanfest.
OP have you seen the fanfest videos were they talk about the new nebulae? It was revealed way back then that backgrounds would be relative to where you are in New Eden and other cool information, well worth checking out. |

I'm actually wondering how this will actually be implemented - you'd either end up with:
- downloading a couple of gigs of pre-rendered high res textures - locally rendering each system at jump (unlikely) - have a compronmise with constellation based skyboxes
I assume it will be the last option, but anyway - looking forward to this... morons-áare recruiting. We're good at breeding! |

From what I understand of a video presentation they did at a fanfest, it's the last - the complex 3-d particle objects (the technology for which has been developed by a third party) are "photographed" (as it were) from within the position of each star system, so we will have different skyboxes, and they'll automatically be co-ordinated to change consistently and appropriately as we move through New Eden.
I absolutely love the look (I think we can already see them in the login screen, and in some of the backgrounds for this forum). They look much more like the kinds of pictures we get from Hubble. The old skyboxes were cool for their time, as "artistic impressions", but this update is very cleverly conceived and should look amazing. |

Yes, you are getting a second video early next week!
I have been so in awe at the amazing stuff our Art dept are providing for this expansion. What you have seen in the first video is just a taster for the rest of the cool they are bringing out

Dear CCP BlueScreen.
While I am totally blown away by the concept of being able to track traveling through space by looking at the nebula i do have one very serious question.
Will the new background nebula be more graphically incentive (Read:Laggy) especially when multiboxing?
One of the largest concerns with incarna was that it made multiboxing more difficult due to docking lag. This is a game where you very much advertise how useful multiple accounts are, so please, if the new nebula cause more CPU usage, make them optional. |

There was a brief period of time where the nebulae vanished entirely due to one bug or another. Eve was never so engrossing, cold and authentic in space as during that time. It'd be fantastic to optionally return to that cold ambiance while flying in space. |

I think this is a fair request, although I would not be surprised if there is no practical way to do it.
I'd try it for a bit, but I have to admit I like the eye candy.
Every time I see the nebulae in EVE I'm reminded of the fact that I'm not really supposed to be seeing them with my own eyes, but rather seeing them as my ship see's them (more specifically the sensors and camera drones of my ship).
A gods eye view of the universe if you will.
I kinda dig that. To kill the enemy and break their toys!
It's not so much a mission statement,-áit's more like a family motto. |

Eye candy certainly is very enjoyable option now and again. I genuinely love visits to W-Space for that specific reason, however the option to cool things down, is a really appealing notion. Particularly given CCP Wrangler's "EVE isn't designed to just look like a cold, dark and harsh world, it's designed to be a cold, dark and harsh world." |

The new Raven model looks like its just a minor adjustment/re-texture, not the overhaul some people were looking for. I for one am glad that CCP isn't getting rid of all asymmetry, but the raven model is kind of ugly.. ;P |

Hey CPP. A superb way to demonstrate the new nebulas would be to present a trip through a popular and well traveled pipe as a time lapse. Say, Jita to Amarr. First with the old nebulas then with the new nebulas.
See what I mean? Pretty cool, eh? |

Asymetry can work when the difference is subtle even with large ships such as the Charon or with small ships like the Noctis. When the asymmetry is acutely pronounced it loses some of its charm and leaves the viewer with an awkward, confused sensation. |

See what I mean? Pretty cool, eh? I think that's an excellent idea -- although, if it goes up up the test server next week like they've hinted, I'm sure someone'll give it a go.
Might even take a stab at it myself, come to think of it. |
