Getting ready for level 4s in a typhoon, and looking for feedback.
Strategy: cruisemissles and arties to blow away at range, use AB to keep at range. Drones and minimal medium arties to take care of stuff that gets too close. Mostly, long-range pwnage. ***In general, is that a viable plan in level 4s?
Here's the setup I'm thinking: All mods are named if I can get or afford them.
High: 4x cruise. 2x 1200 arty. 2x 720 arty.
Mid: AB, Tracking Computer, Target Painter, Cap Booster. *** Using a cap booster instead of relays/rechargers etc. Seems to work on quickfit simulation. Opinions? *** Tracking Computer and Target Painter vs. other choices such as Sensor Booster or Web.
Lows: Large Armor Rep, Med Armor Rep (T2 on both/either if I can) 2x Active Hardeners (mission specific) 1 x BCU, 1x Gyro, 1x tracking (or skip either track or gyro for another hardener) ***Big Enough tankage? Need the additional hardener?
Drones: 5xMedium or 5x Light. ***Which are better vs frigs?

I had a phoon for quite a while, as a PRE-Maelstrom BS cost effective alternative. I tried in Level 3 mishes first and found it to take almost longer to kill NPCs than the Cyclone. Ratting in 0.0 however, was disgustingly fast. I am a fairly new toon, and only sheild tank atm. I did lose this ship outside of 0.0 station to a Nano Bumping BS, but took out a crow first.
Highs: 2 x 1200mm Prototype Arty 2 x 1400mm Prototype Arty 3 x Cruise 1 x Torp
Mids: 1 x Lrge Shld Booster II 3 x Specific Hardner II
Lows: 1 x Gyro 1 x Tracking 1 x BCU 4 x PDS
4 x Heavy Drones 5 x Med Drones 5 x Light Drones

Planning to start doing level 4's in my phoon and have a couple of questions:
1. Siege vs. Cruise - I see a lot of torp setups in this thread, but many people seem to think cruise are better? I'm not sure which way to go.
2. Does anyone use sentry drones? I was thinking of trying them instead of heavies. What do you think?
3. Nos. A lot of people seem to have nos in their pve setups. Is it that necessary for level 4's or am I better off with guns?
Thanks for your thoughts on this.

Having lost a ship, i need a new one for L4s and was thinking the phoon would be a good mission runner.
4x gallium 1400s 4x 'malkuth' cruise
100mn AB II, sb II, tp II, cr II
4x active t2 hards, 2x rcu, accommodation LAR
5 t2 heavy drones, 5 t2 medium drones
I have to say tho, fitting an armour tank is total BS. 2000pg for a lar as opposed to 500 for an xl booster.
Might just replace my maelstrom instead.

i would prolly use the following
4x dual 425mm AC II 4x Cruise missile laucher II
1x 100 MN AB 1x Web 1x Medium Cap Booster 1x Painter or anything you feel you'll need (24km scram for PvP)
2x Large Armor Repper II 1x Explosive hardener II 1x Kinetic Hardener II 1x Thermal Hardener II 1x Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II 1x Damage Control Unit II
5x heavy drones 5x Medium Drones
does not have quite the same damage potential as the torp fit, but fits a dual rep with good res, and for many missions cruises are better anyway
------- Well atleast you don't have to type that name for invites or coms..... My buddies loved me in EQ2 i can tell you... |

I've been ratting Angels with typhoon few nights now with following setup:
high: 4x siege launcher 2x 650mm AC's (or 4x if you got salvage/loot alt) 1x tractor 1x salvager
med: 1x named target painter 3x t2 recharger
low: 1x LAR2 2x explo hardener 1x kinetic hardener 1x thermal hardener (or 1600mm plate, but then the occasional thermal damage will hurt ALOT) 2x BCU2
5x heavy drones 10x light drones (5x explo 5x pvp dps of your choise)

Belt ratting in the drone regions. It's different than other kinds of ratting becuase drones don't have bounties. All the reward comes from hauling off the alloys which are pretty massive.
Therefore:
high: 4x Arbie Torps 2x Heavy Nos 1x tractor 1x salvager
med: 1x named target painter 1x Shield hardner (faction at the moment) 1x AB (boosters) 1x slot for whatever - painter, webber, shield booster...
low: 1x explo hardener 1x kinetic hardener 3x CARGO EXPANDER II 1x Repper 1x BCU (named)
5x heavy drones (for the big rats) 5x medium drones (for everything else)
Rigs: Warhead califaction Missile rapid loader (don't remember what it's called)
It'll eat through any of the drone rats and still has over 1,200 cubic meters of cargo space.

Hello. I just bought a Typhoon and i fitted it like this. Im going to try to do lvl4 missions with some friends. Im not going to Solo lvl4s. Ive seen some ridiculous setups with 7X 1600 plates and heavy missiles and small turrets and lasers...ive seen passive shield tanks with this ship...Lucky my setup is not like that.
I dont want you to tell how Sh***y is my setup, but to i need you recommend me what should i change, or improve, and what is ok.
The whole setup may vary depending on the situation. Low Slots: 1X LAR 4X Hardeners (2exp 1kin 1 therm) i can change them depending on the mission. 1X EANM(may be changed for other thing) 1X 1600mm Rolled Tungsten plate (may be changed for other thing)
Medium Slots: 1X AB 1X Heavy Cap Booster 1X Web 1X Sensor Booster
High Slots: 4X Cruise Missile Launcher 4X Dual 425MM Autocannons
Now, please dont say "Bah thats crap, get out of that ship and go mining veldspar to ur noob system" kind of stuff. Thats just mean.
I know i can change the 4X Dual 425mm for some 720mm arties . but for some reason i dont like that setup. I need an advice. Im not very very low on skills i have 5M sp. Im a little unsure about the med slots, i need a sensor booster to get that nice +100km range with cruises and lock faster.
Thank you. I dont have a sig. |

Seriously, have you guys even checked the dps graphs? You need 4 siege launchers on it to make it hurt at medium range. Everything else is optional, but you really need those t2 siege, preferably with t2 drones as well.
Then you can put 4 autocannons in the other slots if you like, or even better, some heavy nos to help you tank.

My level 3 mission fit:
4*720mm Arty IIs 4*Arbalest Cruise
100mn a/b II Target Painter II Webber Cap Recharger
2*medium armour reppers BCS II Gyro II + hardeners to suit
And a full range of drones. I make sure I've always got armour and sheild rep drones, as it makes a nice support fit. 800mms also work well.

Currently running:
[Highs] 4 x Proto Dual 650mm Auto's 4 x Arby Cruise Launchers
[Mids] 4 x Cap Recharger II's
[Lows] 2 x Large 'Accommodation' Vestment Reconstructer 1 x Damage Control II 2 x N-Type Armour Hardeners 1 x N-Type EANM 1 x Capacitor Power Relay II
[Rigs] 2 x CCC's
Havn't decided what to put in the 3rd rig slot, I might add annother CCC and drop one of the Cap Rechargers for an AB instead. Or I might add in a turret falloff rig...
Anyway works a treat in Lv4's, has no problem tanking anything that's been thrown at it yet.
I prefer using this ship for gang mission work rather than solo though, I usually let my wifes Domi tank and then scoot around in the Phoon using an AB to get into AC range and dropping a repper for Gyro/BCU.

you dont need 2x kinetic hardeners for angels. drop 1, replace with bcu. drop those 650's to 425s. once youre able to use t2 ****, your setup will not fit. you'll be short on pg + cpu.

Been running solo lvl 4s for a few weeks now and my phoon flys them pretty well. So far I have managed stop the thief, damsel, vengeance, militiary presenceThe score, several drone missions, and most of enemies abound without too much trouble.
HI 4 Arbalest cruise 4 800 AC scouts
Mid AB, web, 2 euctectic cap reachargers (going to replace one and fit a dual web)
Low LAR2, MAR2, 2-3 active rat harderners, eanm2, bcu, DC2
(The BCU only gets fitted if I am facing drones, Bloods or sansha. Otherwise 3 hardeners. Once I am more confident with the misisons it will probably permanently relpace a hardener against everyne.)
Drones 5 heavy, 5 medium 2s.
Rigs Ancillary nano-pump x 1 capacitor recharge rig x 2
This does enough damage to kill the boss in vengeance although you need to get close. Tank holds for a long time, normally the MAR2 is sufficient if you manage aggro ok and that will run forever, giving you a chance to kill off the small stuff. Once you are down to BS then just run into AC range or let your heavy drones do the work. EEven with single web the ACs hit smaller ships, with dual there should be no problem.

After playing about with stuff i'm now running:
[Highs] 4 x Proto 800mm Auto's 4 x Arby Cruise Launchers
[Mids] 3 x Cap Recharger II's 1 x Tracking Computer II
[Lows] 1 x Large 'Accommodation' Vestment Reconstructer 1 x T2 MAR 1 x Damage Control II 2 x True Sansha Armour Hardeners 1 x True Sansha EANM 1 x Capacitor Power Relay II
[Rigs] 2 x CCC's 1 x Auxillary Nano Pump
I find it OK, but i'm still not happy with it, its rather difficult to get in range for the auto's (~22Km range with my skills), so i'm thinking of dropping down to Dual 450mm and squeezing an AB on there as theres no point packing 800mm if I can never get in range to use the damn things!
Loving playing about with different fittings on this ship tho, its versatility is great fun! |

Edited by: Quilan Masaq on 07/06/2007 12:00:11 Finally got a setup I love that works really well for missions:
[Highs] 4 x Proto Dual 650mm Auto's 4 x Arby Cruise Launchers
[Mids] 3 x Cap Recharger II's 1 x Lif Fueled Rocket Boosters (or T2 100MN AB)
[Lows] 1 x Large 'Accommodation' Vestment Reconstructer 1 x T2 MAR 1 x Damage Control II/Explosive Hardener/BCU II/Gyro II (as required) 2 x True Sansha Armour Hardeners (or T2) (usually 1xKin 1xTherm) 1 x True Sansha EANM (or T2) 1 x Capacitor Power Relay II
[Rigs] 2 x CCC's 1 x Auxillary Nano Pump
With lv4 in AB skill and Fuel Cosnervation you can run the LAR and the AB constantly and use the MAR for a fairly long time as well. Or you can run both reppers constantly and use the AB in pulses when you need to catch something.
Once I get my Adv. Weapon Upg. on the go I should be able to swap the 650's for 800's.

IS THIS SET UP ANY GOOD?
Man is it ever good! I run near the exact setup in modules. You of course change the ammo, hardeners and drone to suit your target, but this thing is a cake walk.
I did replace one of the CCC with an Aux Nano Pump, and use a Ballistic Control Unit in place of the Damage Control but that is just personal preference. With this setup i turn on the hardeners and LARII and go to work. The T2 small drones destroy the frigs quickly, then i set at range and let Heavies and Cruises chew away. By far the best setup i have used.....so good in fact that i am now looking at getting a Tempest....just for a change of pace. I have been using this setup for long enough, that my insurance expired and i havent renewed it, and have enough confidence in my mission choice and tactics that i am not going to renew.
Try it you will love it!

I currently fit:
Highs 4 x Siege 2 x E500 Nos 2 x whatever (salvager/tractor/autos)
Mediums 1 x Webber 1 x Cap recharge 2 x Painters
Lows 2 x LAR II 1 x DCU II 2 x Hardners 2 x EANM
Drones 7 x Ogres (2 spare)
Rigs 3 x Capacitor Control Circuit
This baby tanks very very nicely, and can output a nice amount of dps. Good for solo or in a gang, adjust high slots according. The 3 capacitor control circuits make this thing very tough.

I've been trying out this setup:
High: 4x 1200mm 4x Heavy Missle Launchers (you can swam 1 for a Large Smartbomb or Drone augmentor)
Med: 4x Cap Recharger II's
Low: 1x LARII 1x Damage Control II 4x Rat depending Armor Hardners II's 1x 1600mm II (can be swapped for what ever you want.
Rigs: 1x Explosive Armor Pump I 1x Kinetic Armor Pump I 1x Thermal Armor Pump I
Drone Bay: 5x Heavy or Sentry 5x Medium
With this setup you can run the tank endlessly. And you can build up a resistance of atleast 88 for 2 damage types. (EM even goes to 94)
I haven't tried angels extravaganza with this setup tbh but with all the types of hardners all the resistances are up in the 70.

Edited by: Thercon Jair on 20/07/2007 17:31:25 Well, 2 setups I haven't seen in this topic. They worked quite well, although they might seem a bit odd ;)
Highs: 4x 1200mm Artillery, 4 siege launchers
Meds: 1x 100mn AB (Quad Lif preferred), large shield booster, 2x invul fields or rat specific hardeners
Lows: 2 Gyros, 2 BCUs, 2 PDUs (I think it was something like this. If you have grid/CPU problems, change a gyro to a tracking enhancer/use another PDU)
Like this you boost both your ship bonuses equally and it works pretty well. Although you can't permatank, but this setup is rather intended to use it's speed to keep the enemies at range. Use whatever drones you like. As far as I remember I used mediums and heavies. And yes, this setup died in a mission... scanned out by Privateers during a mission, pwnd by around 10 of them
Second one:
Highs: 4 Heavy Nos, 4 Cruise Missile launchers (I used the XT 4900)
Meds: 100mn AB, 2 Painters, Cap recharger
Lows: 1 LARII, 3 Hardeners, 3 BCUs
Kill the smaller rats from afar using the painters to boost the cruises to max damage even for cruisers. Then go in close and kill the BSs using your missiles and drones. It can also survive if you get attacked. I made a Vagabond run because I took him half into structure and had a fight 4 BS against 16 AFs and Inties and a Dictor. Most of the frigs died a horrible death because they were very surprised by the damage the cruises put out >:)
It's also not 100% cap stable if you can't NOS a rat BS, but you're fast, and you can kill the inties using your cruises, drones and NOS quite quickly.
Edit: @ cruises vs. torps in missions: most people prefer torps because many rats use defender missiles, and torps need 3 defenders to get destroyed, whereas a cruise missile can be taken out by a single defender. So, with cruises you might lose out on quite some damage when 2 or even 3 of your cruises get destroyed.

4x Dual 650, 4x Siege launcher
AB II, Webber, 2x Cap Charger II
LAR II, 2x EANM II, 3x Rat specific T2 Actives, 1x gyro or bcu II
3x CCC
5 Heavy, 5 Medium Drones.
TBH, it was crap.

Drone Bay: Hammerheads, lots and lots of Hammerheads.
Thing with this setup is you need to use a MAR because a LAR will use too much PG, which doesn't matter since your resists against thermal/em will be so high a MAR will more than cover the damage inflicted by any 0.0 spawned Sanshas.
If you feel the need for more armor rep then switch out the 2nd EM hardener for a 15% RCU and then swap the MAR for a LAR.
Either way it absolutely eats Sansha.

High Slots: 4X Cruise Missile Launcher 4X Dual 425MM Autocannons
Thank you. I dont have a sig.
Personally, I don't care for plates in PVE on a battleship. Try swapping out the 1600mm RT for a medium repper. If you are running in a group, you should make your focus on a specific mission target (size class of npc's).
Cruise missiles will be better vs cruisers than torps, so if your job is to clear out cruisers and frigs, drop the sensor boost, and replace it with a target painter.
The EANM is inefficient in this setup, particularly against explosive damage, as it is the third hardener there. Personally, I prefer to rig against thermal damage, rather than spend a low slot on it. Resistance rigs are cheap, and I can't think of an NPC group that doesn't do at least some thermal damage. Two thermal rigs and a DCU will allow you to double up on the kinetic hardeners without losing much off what you have right now in thermal protection, while significantly boosting resistance to kinetic damage.
I also don't see a listing for drones here, but again, if the aim is to kill cruisers and frigates, mediums and lights are more important than heavies, and the replacements focusing on those two sizes will allow given the ship's large drone bay will come in handy when a new wave spawns and starts tearing up your drones.
If, on the other hand, your job is to kill battleships, drop the cruise missiles in favor of torps, and replace the ab and the cap booster with cap rechargers to get the extra bit of grid. In this case, you shouldn't need the web either, so there's room for a 3rd cap recharger. The 3rd rig slot should be a cap control circuit.
If you are not going to be the main tank for the missions, drop the DCU and medium rep and drop in 2 ballistic controls for increased dps.
When playing as part of a group rather than solo, IMO, it's important to focus on one task, and rely on other members of the group to fill in the gaps on what you can't do. A group of 4 specialists that compliment each other will do better than a group of 4 people each trying to do a little of everything.

This is my setup, and I'm looking to get into lvl 4 missions. I have about 11 million SP, mostly in gunnery, spaceship command, and about a million in missiles:
HIGHS
4 x 425mm Autocannon II's 2 x 'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I's 2 x 'Arbalest' Siege Launcher I's
MIDS
1 x 100MN Afterburner II 1 x X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator 1 x Parallel Weapon Navigation Transmitter (Target Painter) 1 x Heavy Electrochemical Capacitor Booster I (w/ 800's)
LOWS
1 x Large Armor Repairer II 1 x Medium Armor Repairer II 2 x N-Type Specific Hardeners 1 x EANM I 1 x Damage Control II 1 x Beta Reactor Control: Capacitor Power Relay I
RIGS
2 x CCC
DRONES
5 x Hammerhead II's 5 x Ogre I's
So I suppose my question is: how does it look? I can use Barrage M ammo to extend my range, but I'm not sure of the damage. The tank is (relatively) sustainable, but in my last go-round didn't hold up too well (the cap was there, but it still got shredded for some reason).
The major question: 425mm II's? I tried Dual 'Scout' 625mm I's, but they couldn't hit anything that wasn't coming straight towards me. Dual 425's didn't look much better in the tracking department.
Any commentary would be helpful...I'm not ashamed to admit that this is my first real forray into lvl 4 missioning. I can do lvl 3's with the greatest of ease in my Snipest, but it's got a glass jaw and would be demolished in a lvl 4.

3. Nos. A lot of people seem to have nos in their pve setups. Is it that necessary for level 4's or am I better off with guns?
Thanks for your thoughts on this.
1. Siege are better against Battleships but Torps have a lower range than Cruise and will do less damage against smaller ships. So in Missions with lots of Battleships Siege are better. Bad thing that in many ( when not in all ) Lvl 4 there are far more Cruisers and Frigs than Battleships. I prefer Siege and Torps, but that is just me. All I can say here is : Try it out by yourself, and use the modules you like best.
2. I use haevies with my Phoon, and that is because I like to sit in the center of the fire and deal my damage out in all directions. A sentry drone will have problems to target the enemy when they orbit me at 5km with a transversal of 400 and above.
3. Some time ago, a nos or more were really nice. But I have thrown out my nosses a long time ago, and put a salvager and tractor in.
My Phoon :
High : 4 siege - Against Cruisers and above 2 1200mm - Hitting BS often enough when they are at close range, and can insta pop incoming destroyers 1 tractor 1 salvager
Medium : 1 AB 3 Cap recharger
Low : 1 LAR 1 MAR 1 Cap Power Relay 4 Hardener
Drones : 5 Heavy - Help against large targets 10 Light Drones - Interceptor and Frig Killer
Warning : Stage Aggro will kill your Phoon. Be careful when you use your drones.

I run this for lvl 4's and it works really well. And can run the tank w/o fear of ever losing cap.
High 4X Siege 4X 720's
Med 4X Cap recharger II
low 2x LAR II 4X Mission Spec Hardner 1X CPR
Rigs 3x CCC
drones 5X heavy 10Xlight

Edited by: Quilan Masaq on 14/08/2007 08:36:42 My latest super-dooper-uber-missioning-phoon setup 'o' doom:
[HIGH]
4 x 'Prototype' Dual 425mm Autocannons (I use Domination) 4 x 'Arbalest' Siege Missile Launchers (I use Caldari Navy Siege)
[MIDS]
3 x Capacitor Recharger II's 1 x Domination 100MN AB
[LOWS]
1 x LAR II 1 x MAR II 1 x Damage Control II 2 x Active Armour Hardener II 1 x EANM II / 3rd Active Hardener II 1 x 'Beta' Capacitor Power Relay
[RIGS] 3 x CCC's
With the above setup you can run everything forever, including the AB, and never drop below about 40% cap.
The Domination AB is the key, T2 ones suck up too much cap, the Domination one uses about 1/3rd less than the T2 and gives you a higher speed boost.

Edited by: Andreus Ixiris on 23/08/2007 03:00:47 My little contribution to this thread, will be similar to a setup I'll be using pretty soon. Mine won't be quite as good, since I won't be able to fit the T2 repairers until I train Hull Upgrades 5 and Advanced Weapon Upgrades 4, but this is the absolutely ideal setup that one should die for if one is using a 'phoon:
-High Slots- 4x Dual 650mm Prototype I Repeating Seige Cannon 4x Arbalest Cruise Launcher I
-Mid Slots- 100MN Afterburner II (for those unconcerned with speed, substitute in a Target Painter II or a Cap Recharger II) Cap Recharger II x2 Medium Capacitor Booster II (using CB800s) (but see note below)
-Low Slots- Large Armour Repairer II x2 Damage Control II Rat-Specific Tech II Armour Hardeners x3 (distributed 2/1 or 1/1/1, depending on rats) Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
-Rigs- Capacitor Control Circuit I x2 Auxiliary Nano Pump I
With this setting, against a simulated Core deadspace damage distribution (taken from EVEgeek, using a 42% thermal/58% kinetic damage model) your effective DPS resistance is 1020/sec as long as you don't overuse the afterburner or run out of CB800s. For those who dislike using cap boosters (such as myself), use this variant:
-Mid Slots- Cap Recharger II x4
-Low Slots- Large Armour Repairer II x2 Rat-Specific Tech II Armour Hardeners x3 (distributed 2/1 or 1/1/1, depending on rats) Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Capacitor Power Relay II
This variant drops DPS resistance vs. Core damage model to 867/sec and means you can't afterburn, which may cause difficulties taking into account the range of the autocannons, but substituting the 4x 650mm Large ACs for 4x Medium 720mm Howitzer Artillery (or named variant) fitted with Nuclear M provides more versitility vis-a-vis range with only a ~90 damage/sec drop in DPS (named variants present a lower DPS drop, due to their faster rate of fire).
This is all simulated using EFT and figures from Eve[geek], as due to my lack of in-game money and the fact that I don't have Mechanic V, Advanced Weapons Upgrades V or Hull Upgrades V yet, I haven't actually tried it, so your experience may vary. But the figures look promising and if I can somehow find the 40mil I need to actually make my Typhoon fully functional (ISKies plzplz? ) with an only-slightly-less-kickass variant of this setup, some Level 4 baddie heads are going to roll.
Safe flight, everyone, and I hope you find this useful. ----- Mixed Metaphor is now recruiting! Contact me for details. |
