I know Linux users seem to be able to run EVE under WINE on LInux, however, I have heard that KVM is getting really good and is more native in some ways. Has anybody tried running it on KVM ?

Never used KVM (we use Xen at work), but if this is the actual status of the project:

I frankly doubt a "Cirrus CLGD 5446 PCI VGA card or dummy VGA card with Bochs VESA extensions" is anywhere near enough for EVE.
I don't know if an AIGLX solution can work, eventually with the OpenGL driver of the gfx card.
Part of the WINE rationale is to get rid of the Windows installation (and license) to run Windows programs. With a full fledged virtualization environment, this part is totally eclipsed, forcing you to install an actual Windows system on your machine. << THE RABBLE BRIGADE >> |

Yeah, that would be bad, installing Windows. |

It's a virtual machine. You can't just run EVE on it. You have to run windows on it. In which you'll run EVE.
And it's pointless without VGA passthrough. Which requires a second videocard and proper CPU and motherboard support. |

Actually, you can pass your graphics card through to a virtual machine (although xen works better in this case). The other option is trying the latest versions of qemu with 3d acceleration implemented. |

kvm + vga passthru on supported hardware = win having to run windows = lose
so it's a win lose situation, but if you have a second card laying around it seems to be the best way to go until things improve. I have met with limited success implementing it, but need to work on it more.
